Not sure you're getting it if you're asking about white shirts, white is the "default" colour for the material.

The 1994 Pony tick kit is printed - even the black shorts - I know this because my shorts had a manufacturing defect where the polyester had stuck together, and when it opened, the fold was white inside and the rest of the short was the black/red/white Pony print.

Have a look on the inside of a shirt to see what colour it is. If it's not the same colour as the "outside" of the shirt, it's a print on one side rather than a dyed fabric (same colour throughout). Generally the prints are cheaper looking, IMO.

The recent red England away kit from Umbro is actually red, for instance.

The 1991 Liverpool adidas shirt with Candy on the front and the 3 stripes over the right shoulder (camera left) is printed, as is the green away kit.

My horrible glc Newport County kit from 2006 is printed, you'd think they'd have put a proper chain on it... ;)

@ the9 -

FYI Last seasons home shirt had printed stripes - the 1st umbro home shirt the stripes were woven not printed.

much love.

Thanks.

Still can't think of a footie shirt I actually own that's printed like this at the moment.

I have a 2008-ish Lotto UNAM Pumas shirt which is white inside and navy/gold on the outside with a massive printed Puma on the front too.

Yeah, I was wondering when someone would mention the current (current until tomorrow) kit is printed - it's a mainly white shirt though so like I said, I don't really have a problem with that, it makes sense.

Thought it was some blonde bit from twitter!

She's brunette, having actually checked yesterday. Could be just for the online store pics, or just women's sizes (if we have any) though, who knows ?

Looks a bit like Christina Ricci from er, below (but not face on).

I love it when people who aren't remotely interested in a subject feel the need to come on threads and tell everyone who's discussing it that it's pointless. It's a bloody football forum FFS, of COURSE it's pointless...

For once I agree with a post of yours. Would like to see it again sometime though.

So, you've said you're fed up with stripes. You don't like the new kit. And that the sash wouldn't work with a sponsor. Yet you still want something that reflects our history. That really only leaves the quarters, which when we rolled out at The Dell looked f*cking awful IMO.

With that in mind, is there a potential kit design you'd actually approve of?

Personally, I'll wait and see what the new one is like before commenting, but the mock up on here of the 1980s Rank Xerox one would have been a classic.

I do not know how to live without this thread when they release the kit today... :)

There will be many other threads created some loving the new kit most hating it because it is not the red and white stripes that they have grown up with or the Dimplex kit from the 80's or any of the other 80's kits that everybody hated when they first came out and now supposedly love. Then you will get the second and third kit threads with exactly the same questions and answers that have been going on, "its not the same. its not us. we never wear that colour. why is it not pink like that nice Palermo kit? "

and so life on SWF will continue.

Didnt you answer the question yourself ???

And when I said I wouldnt mind a return of the sash sometime, I meant without a sponsor.

And personally, I have always liked the quarters.

Are you that old that you remember the time when we wore it??? Blimey. Surprised you can remember it looking awful. I have a Cotton Traders red/white quarters rugby top and although I have to be careful washing it, it looks superb.

We wore a quarters shirt for the last game at the Dell and it was bloody awful.

We can start a "thoughts on the new kit" thread whereby everyone will say its sh*t or great, most will buy it anyway then there will be lots of moans that it's sold out and there isn't enough stock.

I fully expect a new thread or 6 to spring up around 6pm today with a load of people who haven't been bothered enough about what the new kit looks like so far to look in this thread all going mental about how terrible it is and doesn't look like Saints, etc. This will then get locked as a duplicate (like last year) and no-one who's already been on here will get to actually discuss it with hindsight.

That mildly irked me last year...

At least you won't have me posting updates from the Liebherr Cup at St Mary's about the training kit and the shorts and socks the players are warming up in, this season. :D

Anybody have any pics of the last time we wore quarters?

No, but whilst searching I found a thread from 2008 in which I said

I'd even put up with white with a red sash (as long as the shorts and socks were the 1888 YMA traditional colours)

southampton_1885-1889.gif

or red/white quarters from the St Mary's YMA days either

southampton_1889-1890.gif

Unfortunately the first 42 years as Southampton FC saw the red and white stripes alongside various combinations of navy shorts and socks, which I don't think we should be revisiting even for one season.

We should probably lay off the 3/4 length knickerbockers too. And use a crossbar and an 18 yard penalty area instead of an arc.

http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?1478-My-idea-for-a-new-Southampton-badge&p=47234#post47234

I've changed my mind about the navy now though.

Nice find. The kit looks terrible, but then it's not likely to have been made to any kind of high spec for a one-off.

Aside from that I don't think I like the quarters much.

I actually prefer this (the left one), which is just as well... :

I think the proposed new kit is nice.

only so much you can do with the standard red and white stripes....nice to differ slightly

I still think a lot will hinge on the colour of the shorts and socks for the overall "Saints" look.

Conventionally that would be black shorts and white socks, but we haven't actually worn predominantly white socks with the home kit since Umbro took over (red white hoops first 2 seasons, then black with 125 kit, then red last season).

I'd be surprised if having decided on a red kit "because everyone's already got a striped one", that they churn out another pair of plain black shorts for the 5th year in succession (we had black shorts with the away kit in the 125 season), but then I'm already surprised we're not using stripes, so who knows what they've got planned?

FWIW I think the same template with red/white stripes and black pinstripes would look excellent and would make a whole lot more sense. I can only hope the leak I've been banging on about for 2 months is wrong !

Unveiled today at 6pm, on sale at West Quay from Sunday at 11am and in the Megastore from 9am Monday.

The one on the left immediately above, I guess, is the one, so it has already been unveiled on this site The9. I am sure your ITK contact has got it right.

Is this your get out clause when it turns out to be plain old white and red stripes and a roll neck collar :)

I think the main thing we can all agree on is that women will love seeing guys in the latest saints shirt, especially in XL or bigger.

They'll be frothing at the gash at the sight of middle aged, bloated men stood in pubs guzzling beer with the pinstripes providing a nice, slimming effect as they sit tightly around their oversized gut.

Looking forward to see this.

I wonder if The9 got any sleep last night?

Actually I've had two crappy nights of sleep, but that's because I'm ill, nothing to do with the kit. Also, if I already think I know what it looks like, what's there to get excited about ? It IS just a football kit after all, and I'll get it eventually anyway as I collect them.
