sperm_john Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 agree with whoever said brighton at home was good, great atmosphere, and the game that tadanari lee scored his screamer in? I forget!
del boy Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 I really enjoyed Brighton at home - partly because I was so p!ssed off with their antics the year before and secondly because I actually remember stopping and savoured the moment - we were 3-0 up and playing ole football with the crowd all singing "were top of the league" . They'd had one of their actors sent off, Rickie had scored a hat rick and there was still 20 mins to go - and I remember looking at my son and saying - yes!! remember this, this is what its all about! up and away Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 Middlesbrough at St Marys - we were sublime and the team reached a standard of pass & move football that we have never quite recaptured alas. Our 3rd goal in particular was a thing of beauty. I honesty think that day we could have given half the Premier League a fright. For pass and move football I thought the Leeds game was breathtaking and I was just in awe that it was Saints that were playing it. Home against Middlesbrough was the ultimate accolade but diminished slightly because we were in such total control that Tony Mowbray was left scratching his head. Guly had just moved up front to play wuth Ricky and Chaplow showed what we needed from right midfield. That sort of performance would have won Premier games. Sadly Chaplow then gets injured, Guly goes off form and we never really discovered that domination with such consumate ease again. I thought for excitement Birmingham was tops, though performance of the season has to be against Middlesbrough. When you look at the number we did on Watford away, that does not get the plaudits it deserves considering all the good results Watford had both before and after our game. The9 Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 I still don't get all the love for the Leeds game. We were decent, but we've played better than that probably 10 times this season. I think it's just that it was unexpected.
mikec Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 ...and the game that tadanari lee scored his screamer in? I forget! Derby 4-0. That was the best game for me because it was the only game I got to see this season. Lee's goal was certainly special and I was right behind the net and got a great view of it. up and away Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 I still don't get all the love for the Leeds game. We were decent, but we've played better than that probably 10 times this season. I think it's just that it was unexpected. It's still the game that epitomises the season for me, as you say unexpected. First game of the season against a difficult side with all the expectation of the season to come. We stepped up a level of play that day, something I never saw coming. This against a Leeds side that were trying to kick us out of our stride and whinging to the ref and we just passed and moved through all of it. Not only did I know we were be going to be ok for the coming season but that we might actually do something in this league. We made them look very, very ordinary whilst not resulting to their tactics, rising above it with football which left them chasing shadows, The Middlesbrough game was the better performance, but nothing can replace the feeling when Saints stepped up a gear against Leeds with a brand of football I never expected. Ziggy Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 Leeds first day. A genuine case of 'Wow, did we really just do that?' And no, we didn't look back!!! I went on holiday the next day on a massive high and was there when we racked up three more wins. It was unbelievable walking round in a Saints shirt as top of the league and surprising just how many Saints fans we bumped into. Plus always nice to be there to get a victory over dirty Leeds! Chez Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 Performance wise, Boro was perfect. Millwall away gave me the biggest smile though, Crazy. Leicester away deserves a special mention for me. Tremendous game, unbelievable second half onslaught. One of the best defeats I've ever seen us in if that makes sense.
Wiggles31 Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 I think the destruction of Birmingham and Watford is another highlight. Particularly Birmingham.

Graffito Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 Middlesbrough's a good shout but now we've been promoted I can say I enjoyed the 2-2 derby match. I'll miss the Skates when they're gone...kind of.

JPTCount Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 from what I saw live this year, 4-0 at home to derby, completely out played them and rounded off nicely with a wonder strike from lee
Wilf Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 Ipswich away for me, majestic performance by Cork (which he probably didn't better all season) and great attacking play, Lambert's goals, Morgan's flick for Adam.....
scotty Posted 1 May, 2012 Share Posted 1 May, 2012 Leeds at home. 1st game of the season wasn't expecting to much, thought a draw would be ok for a 1st game in a new league, but we tore them apart..... Yep, cant argue that. Theres something about the first game after promotion, just to get some points on the board. Also agree with the OP, that Reading game.......ffs, such wonderful football, still cant believe we walked away with nothing. I cant help thinking Reading are going to struggle far more than us in the prem next season.

This Charming Man Posted 2 May, 2012 Share Posted 2 May, 2012 Ipswich away - at the beginning of the season I was expecting mid-table with maybe a late charge for the play-off's at best. This game made me realise we were capable of more than that. We destroyed them. Leeds away - I'd often questioned our ability to grind out a result, battle away and get 3 points when we really don't deserve them. After all, that's what teams going for the title/auto promotion need to do. This proved we could. WHU home and away - Always going to be some of the tougher games this season and we proved on both occasions we're a superior side to them. I don't mind WHU, a 'proper' club with good tradition but they do think they're better and bigger than they are, was nice to put them in their place. Dimond Geezer Posted 2 May, 2012 Share Posted 2 May, 2012 It's got to be the two Leeds games for me. I couldn't believe what I'd seen in either of them. The home match was our first as a newly promoted team & we ripped them apart. I wasn't expecting anything of the sort. The away match, they really should have mullered us, but a great goal from Lambo (with our one & only shot I think) & a legendary goalkeeping display from KD got us the points. MAY-Z Posted 3 May, 2012 Share Posted 3 May, 2012 Leeds at home. 1st game of the season wasn't expecting to much, thought a draw would be ok for a 1st game in a new league, but we tore them apart..... i am currently watching a replay of this game now and would have to agree, especially as lallana is about to score the leeds away was great and also blackpool at home as i just knew we would equalise and in the end we shouldve got the win and its 2-0 now
