Well done to the Academy too...

Sadly they were pipped to the post by Fulham on Saturday morning, who beat Norwich 4-3 to go back top of the group, but Saints should still be proud of what they've achieved once again, missing out by just one point and losing just 5 games all season. Jason Dodd is doing a great job and let's hope that continues in line with our first team progress!

Will any of Academy players be ready to make the step up next season? Shaw? Stephens? Even to be part of first team squad!

Stephens might... he is a big lad and a real prospect.

Shaw and one or two others might get some cup games but probably a year too soon for them - But then again it never stopped Bale did it?

I was looking for this on the website yesterday, as in the programme it said Saints were waiting on the Fulham lunchtime result on Saturday.

It's good to see the production line in sound order, would have been nice to have seen us in the semis next Friday (I think) then hopefully in the Academy final.

I can remember us playing Aston Villa in the Final, possibly relegation year and we might have had the likes of Dyer, Walcott, David "run Forest run" McGoldrick, possibly Bale and some useless player called Lallana (wonder what became of him) and others. Friday night SMS and a pretty good crowd in the Kingsland and Northam, 1st goal was sublime in its build up, and had lots of kids asking their Dads "why cant we score goals like that every week". Second half we ripped them apart, might have been 4-1, everytime we went forward I could see my daughter out of the corner of my eye sliding to the edge of her seat in expectation, then realised that all the kids were doing the same. Great to see. Be nice to see Them get there again.

We've got a very nice batch of kids at the moment, even below the U18 level's there are some players that are causing excitement (although they won't share their names as not to create interest, which is fair enough I guess).

With the investment that is going on in that side of the club, I think it's safe to say that we currently have the pick of the best young players in our region. Should be quite an exciting few years if any of these kids get their chance in the top flight. The quality of players we consistently produce is fantastic.

Corby Moore is the nephew of a friend of mine, does anyone know if he is one of the 'hotter prospects'? I've never seen him play, and she doesn't seem to really know too much about his ability! Would be interested if anybody has seen him play if they think he could progress to first team.

I actually met Huw a few months ago. Fulham seem to be putting more investment into finding young players from new areas. They have started up a number of development centres across London and both of my boys are at a new one in East Dulwich. One night I was there I spotted a bloke I thought was Huw Jennings. It was only at the end that I became sure so I went over for a chat at the end of the session. He seemed genuinely pleased about Saint's prospects for the season just finished. Sounded like he still had a soft spot for us but was equally determined to ensure that Fulham should outdo the Saints academy at every opportunity.

On the subject of academy players breaking into the team next season, I believe it's more likely that the majority of those who've outgrown the u21s will go out on loan.
