Scummer Posted 11 November, 2008 Share Posted 11 November, 2008 Anyone know much about them? Mine has started playing up (shortly after having a new heat exchanger fitted to the boiler, which may or may not be related). Sometimes I get up in the morning, have a shower (which is a good temperature), then turn it off. Wife gets up a couple of minutes later, turns shower on, but only gets cold water. Other days (like today), hot doesn't come out at all. Boiler is firing up fine. On Sunday I recalibrated the shower (as I thought the water might be coming in hotter due to the heat exchanger), ran it for about half an hour and the temp was fine (38.4 degrees ish). But again it's not working properly. Someone mentioned to me that it might be the cartridge, does this sound likely? Also, if that's what it is, how long should they be expected to last? The shower was fitted almost exactly a year ago. Any ideas people?
Scummer Posted 11 November, 2008 Author Share Posted 11 November, 2008 I guess not then? I thought there were some clever people on here.
Junction 9 Posted 11 November, 2008 Share Posted 11 November, 2008 Do you have a combi? Do you ever get the problem on hot taps or just the shower? They do have a cartridge in them which are normally a wax capsule type. It may still be under warranty if it's one of the larger manafacturers like Mira or New team. Scummer Posted 11 November, 2008 Author Share Posted 11 November, 2008 Yes it's a combi. The taps are working fine, it's only the shower that has a problem.

We have one, been fitted about 3 years works fine. But then nobody ever turns the knobs, just on the 38 degree setting with the little red button, that blocks it from going higher without pressing the button. Don't know anything about calibrating it though, our motto, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". We got it from Castorama, which is part of the Kingfisher group I think, cost about 300 euros and it's fitted to an electric water tank as we're all electric apart from wood fires.
