Noodles34 Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 There I was bemoaning Leicester, getty right arsey about their lack of effort, dispairing at West Ham taking the lead and jumping at the end when that header went straight to Green. But imagine if Leicester had sneaked a point or more, yesterday would have been so different. There would not have been that pre match apprehension, we all knew we would win, but we all knew that we 'could' lose. The atmosphere in the stadium The relief when the 1st goal went in. The end of the game.... We dragged it out, wouldnt say we stumbled across the line but we hardly sprinted, waited to the last game (at home), and I am glad it eneded in the way it did, because days like yesterday (for a Saints fan anyway) come round just a few times in your life...if you're lucky. CB Fry Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 There would have been nothing like the media coverage we got, because the game would probably not been on BBC one. As a result would not have been in all the news reports as it was yesterday. Turned out well, and I was one of the ones wanted Leicester to do the business on Monday. I was wrong. Raging Bull Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 would have perfered it if we'd gone into yesterday level with Reading with it being an outright who scores more on the day wins the title. other than that it was a perfect day.
dubai_phil Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 No. This was The Sweetest Feeling And, as my Mum said when I finally got home having watched it... It was just like watching that Spanish Team Barcadrid or something
Colinjb Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 It was perfection. Everything about it was right. A little story as well: On Friday I turned 28 years old, I support Saints but live in Cov. Saturday was 28 years to the day we defeated Coventry 8-2 at the Dell as we went on the way to finishing 2nd in the league. We defeated Coventry to ensure a second place finish and of course, our aggregate score against them in league games this season: 8-2. Very, very odd. eelpie Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 I would have liked to draw with Reading at home - or with anyone else we lost to, 'cos with just one point more we would have been Champions on goal difference. However it is no big deal to have ended missing top spot. We were second last year and perhaps that gave us the extra drive and determination to succeed this year. Take Brighton - they just assumed they would be above us, silly Poyet. Absolutely nothing can diminish the excellence of our achievement!
Monk Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 Yes, would of liked a draw at Boro.

doddisalegend Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 The joys of hindsight........It turned out to be a great day so I'm happy...........but would I have been unhappy if Leicester had done us a favour....not in the slightest
alpine_saint Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 Easy to say this because it turned out OK. I would have preferred promotion to be won in a less masochistic way, but I'll concede it made for one helluva last day spectacle...
dubai_phil Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 We were always going to do it. I had a day from hell on the Thursday just getting back to Blighty. Saturday was HORRIBLE = cold wet windy = I hadn't packed warm clothes. On the way to the game the car was being battered - Throw what you want at us God it doesn't matter today is our day... We EVEN got hit by a bird on the way to the game (Sparrow I think) The lads were nervous what If's everywhere as we had our full English Gutbuster Breakfasts at the Queensway Cafe We were all in odd areas of the ground. My first proper game in the Itchen (wow how busy is THAT?) The reception for WGS as he walked round the Chapel BUT somehow I just KNEW The first went in - Sweet. Jose Fonte that dummy - you STAR. The secomd went in. Sorry I was freaking crying. And then one hour to show the Planet how damned good we have been this season. I got txt's from Egg chasers, from Citeh & Manc fans Hell even a txt from a proper skate. No, from the moment my flight was delayed 3 hours I knew we would be fine and this was the way it had to be. Halo Stickman Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 Although I wouldn’t swap yesterday, human nature being what it is, I shall probably end up being envious of the team that wins the Championship play-off final! There are a few advantages for achieving promotion that way: 1/ Extra revenue for the club 2/ Exciting semi-final matches that your team has come through. 3/ Successful day out at Wembley 4/ Teams that win the play-offs get massively increased exposure and their achievement is often remembered more than that of teams that actually win automatic promotion. shurlock Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 Hindsight is a wonderful thing - if we knew how things would pan out, we'd all want to win via the playoffs. Fact is I wanted this done and dusted as early as possible - so if it wasn't Boro, I would have taken a result at Leicester.
Sour Mash Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 Would have been great at Boro, 3k travelling fans going nuts. Having sad that build up etc to yesterday was good and as stated above all the media coverage has been good.
