We've endeared ourselves to Coventry fans

Always nice to hear I suppose. It'd be easy to forget where we were just a few years ago, but it seems a lot of us still remember and have sympathy for Coventry. Here's a selection of posts from their messageboard.

What fantastic support we have, and what fantastic supporters the saints have.

It was great seeing fellow football fans helping each other when they unveiled the sisu out flag.

I was on one of the coaches and pretty much every Southampton fan that passed by applauded us, it was a fantastic sight to see, and I'd like to wish them luck in the premier league.

I've been around half the away games and all the home games this year, and I'd say it has been the most passionate I have seen the fans in the 16 years of supporting the club. At away games such as leeds away we did not stop singing throughout.

Went through a period wishing ill on you purely because Strachan was managing you but today has really cemented a warm feeling between Cov and Saints that will last .

Have to agree here! I've met loads of Saints fans while I've been down here and every one of them a real fan and supporter of both their club and the game itself. I feel closer to Southampton FC more than any other club now (obviously after CCFC!), as I have the utmost respect for true fans of the game. What I've read on some of the posts on here today just shows me that I think what joemercersaces says will come true. Cov and Southampton will forever be a lot closer as clubs and supporters, even though, for now, we are two leagues apart. Congrats on their promotion.

I think it's only fair to turn the compliments around on them. Their sense of humour and good nature was obvious yesterday, singing all the way through the game despite being at the end of a long and disappointing season. I wish them well, I wish SISU out and I hope we see them at St.Marys again soon. Good fans!

Fair play to Coventry. We know their pain. I hope for their sake that they get a decent bunch of investors or a single investor that will have honest intentions for them. As we know League One may be a new beggining for them and they 'may' come back stronger after being down there. They need to stay loyal and i am sure they will. I genuinely wish them all the best.

I thought Coventry showed that if they maintain that style of football and sort out the off the field saga they can come back stronger. As we know having a good season in league one is actually a lot of fun.

They really remind me of us when we dropped into league one. Best of luck too them. Their fans were great too given the circumstances.

I was amazed at how their fans stayed in their seats for a good while after the game had finished watching our celebrations. Don't think I could have done that, watching other supporters celebrate promotion after we'd been relegated. I'm just pleased that us winning that game and therefore sealing our promotion didn't cause their relegation.

Ahhhhh, that's nice. As it goes it always used to be Saints and Coventry who'd survived for donkeys years against all the odds. I hope they get rid of SISU and reverese the decline. L1 might seem like disaster to them but as we know it can be a blessing in disguise.

This!

We have always been twinned given our years of lack of resources and ability to survive at the top without becoming yo yo clubs! Hope they climb the league like we did! A good family club like ours with genuine supporters!

All the best to Coventry, they have always been a decent club with decent fans. Sad to see them in L1 but as we know it is not the end of the world. I for one hope they can turn it around.

+1.

Good luck Cov. I don't know why - but after yesterday, I will be following them closely from now on. The Sky Blues are now officially my 2nd team!

Wish Coventry good luck next season watching them reminded me so much of us 3 years ago good kids trying to play football just missing some goals & belief

Like us think they will need to enjoy playing at home & add a bit of bite & steel away

If only other clubs would give their kids a chance instead of signing nobodies on massive wages

Their fans were utterly fantastic and I took great pleasure in clapping their convoy of buses as it went down Northam Road. I was sat in Block 44 which seemed entirely full of plastics (wouldn't even join in with "Oh When The Saints" FFS!) but the Coventry lot chanted with persistence and good humour - a credit to their club. We certainly dodged a bullet with SISU.

Well behaved fans who have a lot in common with us ie WGS, Sisu Dulieu etc. They had many young players in the team who did well yesterday and they never gave up singing for their team. It must have been very hard for them to see all the goings on by us as our team were promoted but they are going down. Let us hope that they can quickly recover, somebody buys them who are proper football people and we can see the RIcoh jumping again. Good luck Coventry City.

Assuming that Pompey will be able to enter League One next season we'll see part two of the different approaches of Pompey and Coventry. Coventry have spent all season readying the next generation of players to take them out of League One, while Pompey have shipped their best youngsters out and now have a firesale on the experienced players. How will their team look next season?

I was in the Cov end and the guy next to me was a real gent and all around me were proper football fans, I was congratulated at the end. I was asked to hold up one end of an anti SISU banner for a bit. SISU really are a bunch of ****s and chatting to him may me realise there but for the grace of god. Good luck Coventry City.

Coventry fans showed great humility, their support for the blues yesterday was outstanding, considering the circumstances they were playing under. They were superb towards our fans in our success, and i know we all wish to see them back in the Premiership with us in the future.

Have to say when we were up there for the league game on a Prawn Sandwich jolly in a box. We had trouble keeping our composure when we scored, and were not separated like box occupants are at SMS. A row down to our right was a bloke who bled Sky Blue, in between giving the team and The directors box a piece of his mind, he was very pleasant in our direction.

Yesterday I too was amazed at the number of them who stayed after the final whistle, and their reply to our chant of stand up if you're going up, of Stand up if you're going down! Showed the dark humour of football fans following a team on the bones of its ar$e. Hopefully they will get back on an even keel.

At he end of the day that has to have been a hardcore of travelling fans yesterday , and when we were in the darkest of days there never seemed to be an axe to grind with normal opposing fans.

Seeing some of our fans who went up to applaud up the coventry fans are exactly the same ones who would have turned against them if we hadn't got a result - a lot of Northam types- i'd just say its easy to be magnanimous when you're winning.

Have a lot of sympathy for Coventry. At least, our administration was swift and clinical. Looks like Sisu are clinging on to the bitter end to realise some kind of return, even if ends up in mutually assured destruction.

Thought the atmosphere we created at the City ground in 2009 was also excellent -one of the best I've experienced. Guess these games bring out a similar response amongst fans.

Quite. I wonder how many would have been applauding them, shaking hands and holding up a SISU OUT banner if they'd nicked a 1-0 win!

I thought the Coventry fans were excellent. Even above the wall of noise that we were creating you could still hear them singing and supporting thier team from the Chapel end. I thought some of their youngsters looked pretty decent...hopefully they can get in a couple of old pros to mix with their kids and have a really good season in league 1 next year. Ideally beating pompey twice on the way to promotion.

So are Coventry the new Southend?

I also remember a similar thread about Walsaw. Of course, other results alo meant they stayed up that day so 2 sets of fans celebrating.

Still, good luck to Coventry. Met a few during the course of Saturday night and we're a good bunch. Like others have said, they are ery similar to us so would like to see us both back in the Premier League.

Please do explain, what is a "Northam type"? Would it just so happen that loads of us from the Northam & the Itchen applauded the Coventry fans as we were right next to them and on the day they were an absolute credit to their club and their city, so before I ran off going f*****g mental, I thought I would show a bit of respect and appreciation towards them, as I was shown by Forest fans when we outsung the City Ground on our Relegation Party in 2009.Some people on here really are something else.
