VectisSaint Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 Amongst all the euphoria of gaining promotion yesterday I see that the Academy lads were also pipped at the post. Fulham u18s won 4-3 at Norwich to overhaul us by one point in our Academy league pool. I still don't really understand why Fulham still had a game to play after we finished our fixtures, but there you go. Still, well done Doddsy and all the staff and players
Gemmel Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 Better than being 3rd ! And definatley better than being 17th
Gaucho Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 We finished second last year and look what we did this year! So...what will we do next year?
Saint Without a Halo Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 I quite like being 2nd Bring on the champions league!
Lighthouse Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 We finished second last year and look what we did this year! So...what will we do next year? It's strange to think about how closely match we were with the likes of Brighton, Posh, Udders and even Bompey for large parts of last season, but after we were promoted we eventually beat them be quite some distance. The Premier League is obviously a completely different bag of spanners, but you can't help but wonder which of the promoted team will take to it best. As it stands I'd fancy Saints and Reading to beat the likes of Norwich, Swansea and perhaps even Villa next season.
Give it to Ron Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 I forget which board or thread it was on but someone said Southampton are great lovers....we like to come second.....
VectisSaint Posted 29 April, 2012 Author Posted 29 April, 2012 Good to see that no-one actually read the post. Seems to be little or no interest in what goes on at the club these days other than the 1st team. Yet everyone knows that we have one of the best academies in the country.
Dr Who? Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 What a fantastic football club we have, could not give a toss about being 2nd!
richardc Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 I bet if you asked a WHU supporter they would nt mind being 2nd
Sour Mash Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 Well the likes of Adkins and Davis said they were 'gutted' to not win the league.
bender Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 I agree to an extent. Fact is if we got a point at Middlesboro we would have won the league, a point which we at least deserve, and you have to look at the Saints Reading game a few weeks ago. We didnt deserve to lose that. But then you also have to look at the Leeds and Millwall away games which god knows how we won. At the end of the day, being top only matters in the Prem. In all the other leagues promotion is all that counts.
S-Clarke Posted 29 April, 2012 Posted 29 April, 2012 Seeing it so close at the end is frustrating, but 2nd is still the same prize at the end of the day.
Picard Posted 1 May, 2012 Posted 1 May, 2012 Seeing it so close at the end is frustrating, but 2nd is still the same prize at the end of the day. Just that winning the division you get to play in the playoffs with the three other division winners!
