trousers Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 To me, one of the big differences next season will be the fact that we will have more subs on the bench. The 5 subs rule has really stifled our natural instinct to blood some of the youngsters. As such, even though we'll be a league higher, I would expect to see more of the youngsters coming through next season, which is great news. The football league really shot themselves in the foot with this rule. They obviously brought it in to thwart clubs with money filling their benches with superstars but it has had the effect of cutting off the path between academy and first team. This is the first season I can remember in a long time where there wasn't one 'revelatory' new face from the academy ranks making the first team squad regularly by the end of the season. paulwantsapint Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 Would hope that we go with at least 1 kid on the bench for every game Football league should have made a rule of at least 2 kids per bench
Saintandy666 Posted 29 April, 2012 Share Posted 29 April, 2012 Makes a difference to the youth I would imagine also, just to be on the bench and involved even if they don't get on.

The fact of the matter is that quite a few lower league clubs don't have the extra 7 players to put on the bench, nor does the FL seem to think they need 7 to change out, whereas Prem.sides can chamge personnel and tactics easier, the kick and rush style of L1/L2 hardly needs great numbers of subs. to choose from.
