sfc4prem Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 not overly.. Pretty rapid in comparison to Sharp....
Glasgow_Saint Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 What about Alan Smith (on loan at MKD's) scored a wonder goal tonight
Saint Charlie Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 What about Alan Smith (on loan at MKD's) scored a wonder goal tonight Haha...there's a reason he went to L1 on loan. Dany N'Guessan scored some wonder goals in League One as did Jonno Forte.
Saints foreva Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 Stoke City's Kenwynne Jones will tomorrow (Wednesday) be the latest big name player to be linked with Premier League new boys #saintsfc. From @NabilHassan79 who works for the BBC in the South according to his bio.
thorpie the sinner Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 Stoke City's Kenwynne Jones will tomorrow (Wednesday) be the latest big name player to be linked with Premier League new boys #saintsfc. From @NabilHassan79 who works for the BBC in the South according to his bio. No No No!!!!!!!
MOSaint Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 Is Kenwyne Jones really a big name these days? Not really done it in the PL best goal haul being 10 and that was a few years ago now.
Wiggles31 Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 Rhodes would be a great addition (only if the price is right). We need a future player to fill Lamberts boots ie. a CF. He fits the mold for me.
Wiggles31 Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 As we all know Kenwyne Jones was rubbish for us barring one decent season. Since then he has done absolutely feck all. Hideously hideously overrated player with a huge ego.
the saint in winchester Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 YES to Jordan Rhodes, NO to Darren Bent. Young and hungry = Rhodes. Kenwyne, hmm, probably not, but possibly. If we are looking at ex-Saints, I'd still love to see Kevin Davies back here. The ONLY player who would deputise for Lambert without us changing our style of play, as he too drifts into midfield and onto the wings. £3M on Rhodes and £2M on Kevin Davies and I'm happy with our attack. All IMHO, of course, I know most will disagree.
southamptonfclegend Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 If Kenwyne Jones come back I will be so annoyed, refusing to play for us in 2007? but alright to come back and be part of our team now.. he can **** off.
shurlock Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Nabil Hassan is a pretty credible source - a Bournemouth lad. Covers our games for the Beeb.
Foxstone Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 If Kenwyne Jones ends up back here I will eat my garage.. Just have a feeling that the striker we will end up signing will be Rodriguez
Mattio Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 I knew it would happen eventually... http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/7758744/England-appeals-to-Del-Piero
edprice1984 Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Jordan Rhodes, I agree that he has only played in League 1 - but so had Oxlade-Chamberlain and Pilkington. Personally I don't see any reason (other than Huddersfield demanding anything above £4M) why we shouldn't go for him. Yes other clubs might go in for him, but they have a lot more to lose - Everton, for example, aren't going to splash money around on an 'unproven player'. I think we are going to be linked with an awful lot of cr*p over the next few months...If we can start in August with all our key players retained and Jarvis, Davis (Rangers), Rhodes, unknown Italian hardman, CB and in my dreams Buckland (GK) from Brum I think we would be fine for next year!
Armchair Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 3m for Rhodes and you'd be mad not to take him. But it's the liklihood it'll be double that which puts me off an unproven player. If they go up, he may well stay. Maybe that's for the best, let him get on in the NPC, if he does well, perhaps clubs will bid in January? I can only see 1 striker signing. I'd like it to be someone that is likely to go straight into the team. It's a tough ask really, as Lambert is already a legend here, Sharp has been excellent and Adkins clearly really rates him, and they rate Lee very highly. I still think the most likely outcome is Hooper. I suspect that only one striker will be signed. I would be quite content with Lambert, Sharp, Lee and one other making up the main striker options for next season. I think goals from midfield and a few additions in defence are more of a priority.
MerceSaint28 Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Saint in Winchester....what are you smoking?? Kevin Davies for £2 million?? i wouldn't take him on a free...the last thing we need is a journey man forward. As for Rhodes he wouldn't cost £3million...more like 5 or 6 mill. I think Jay Rodrigues is the guy who ticks all the boxes...young, quick, good finisher. Hooper is also a good player but the sweaties want too much cash... For what it's worth...Jones is a good player...however after his acrimonious departure, he would have to go some to turn fan opinion
SNSUN Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 In the Metro we're being linked to HArry Kane, currently of Spurs but on loan at Millwall. I think people that saw him was saying he's good. Any info?
MOSaint Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Looked decent at Millwall, don't really think he's ready for the PL or that Spurs would sell a promising 18 year old.
Saint Charlie Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Jordan Rhodes, I agree that he has only played in League 1 - but so had Oxlade-Chamberlain and Pilkington. With those additions we wouldn't be fine. Have you watched the Prem lately? The gap is massive between most prem teams and the Champ. You need to bring in 5 or 6 real quality players to start matches. jarvis fine, but Davis is average, Rhodes totally unproven at a decent level (too big a risk)...
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Saw Kenny Miller in Bothwell (Glasgow) yesterday - maybe a return to Celtic and we get Hooper?
diggs Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 been linked with liam trotter in the mail for 1.5 million
Saint Garrett Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 I'm sure journalists just look on this site and see which names have been mentioned...
Pilchards Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 I'm sure journalists just look on this site and see which names have been mentioned... In that case I will make up this one. Jayrod to us for 7.5m after we agreed a price with Burnley, It's down to the player now.
itchen_dan Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 been linked with liam trotter in the mail for 1.5 million http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2145187/Southampton-Millwall-midfielder-Liam-Trotter.html?ITO=1490&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Saint Garrett Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Still....lets not forget that we have to play Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, Everton and Liverpool, twice, which is in total 16 games and a possible 48 points....We need to be able to compete and with those additions I think we would struggle.
Pilchards Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Best time to play some of those teams are during the Champions league knockout stages while it's best to play Everton in the first 3 months. Liverpool away is when Gerrard is injured while Spurs away is when Harry answers another set of charges. I suppose Utd at home on a gloomy grey day & Arsenal on the opening game of the season as they never win.
SuperMikey Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2145187/Southampton-Millwall-midfielder-Liam-Trotter.html?ITO=1490&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Excellent, I posted a few pages back about what a good signing he would be for us. Good on the ball, good passing ability and he's built like a brick sh!thouse. Can play at CB if needed as well. For £1.5m he'd be a snip.
Gordon Mockles Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 YES to Jordan Rhodes, NO to Darren Bent. Young and hungry = Rhodes. Kenwyne, hmm, probably not, but possibly. If we are looking at ex-Saints, I'd still love to see Kevin Davies back here. All IMHO, of course, I know most will disagree. Kevin Davies (hate the surname Davis and Davies - too confusing!!) would be a very good shout. Mentality wise, influence, timing, etc. Him and Rickie too similar maybe?! Certainly great back ups to one another to avoid losing a certain system. Both great at holding up play, target men, drifting wide bringing others into play, both strong as an ox. I reckon he'd love being back with Saints too. Kenwyn can f*ck right off. Reusing to play for us. We don't want any of the modern footballer attitude anywhere near our club and robust mentality. PL and the over-paid playboy's playground will test that resolve with some I am sure through association!
Saint Charlie Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Still....lets not forget that we have to play Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, Everton and Liverpool, twice, which is in total 16 games and a possible 48 points....We need to be able to compete and with those additions I think we would struggle. Thats what I was getting at. Plus, go through a team like Fulham, Sunderland, WBA - some cracking players there, miles better than the likes of Rhodes, Trotter, Matt Phillips...
Saint Charlie Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 McCleary signs for Reading - decent signing for them. Looks like Antonio leaving to join Sheff Weds.
Saint Garrett Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Yer I do agree, Matt Phillips looks class. Wish we'd signed him from Wycombe when Blackpool did.
Turkish Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Yer I do agree, Matt Phillips looks class. Wish we'd signed him from Wycombe when Blackpool did. We tried and failed.
Saint Scott Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Somen Tchoyi has been released from West Brom. Didn't see much of him this season but last year looked like a good player to me. Premier league experience and 29 years old, could be a mature head to have around the club even if he only made a few appearances.
S-Clarke Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 I'd be pleased with Trotter, I think he's a good player. Very much in the mold of Huddelstone.
SuperSAINT Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 WBA have activated one-year contract option on Simon Cox http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/west-bromwich-albion-fc/2012/05/16/albion-reveal-whos-leaving-the-hawthorns/
maysie Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2144974/Stoke-sell-Kenwyne-Jones.html Old boy back in?
Matthew Le God Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2144974/Stoke-sell-Kenwyne-Jones.html Old boy back in? Given he went on strike in 2007 in order to engineer a move away from St Mary's, I hope not.
itchen_dan Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 We've apparently made an equity fro Steven Pienaar but most likely to go back to Everton of anywhere.
maysie Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Given he went on strike in 2007 in order to engineer a move away from St Mary's, I hope not. Me neither. Sounds like a QPR signing anyway i.e. big wages and not really all that good.
itchen_dan Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Sodding iPhone. We've apparently made an enquiry for Steven Pienaar but he's most likely to go back to Everton.
maysie Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 We've apparently made an equity fro Steven Pienaar but most likely to go back to Everton of anywhere. This would be a great signal of intent. Really clever player. Can't see it happening though. My wife is an Everton fan and I went to the game against Newcastle - he ripped them apart. The Everton fans worship him so he'll probably end up there
MOSaint Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Pienaar would be a great signing, but surely Everton bound. Then again Kenwright may play tightwad again and decide he doesn't want to spend the money.
SaintsAddict Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 Abdul Majeed Waris looks like he has potential, young quick striker from Ghana who scored 5 for Hacken in the top division in sweden today. HCDAJFU in my opinion.
melmacian_saint Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 How does Buszaky of QPR sound for everyone? With Cork and Schneiderlin (and even Hammond) being more defensive midfielders, I think he would be a great signing, and since he's been coming out of the bench most of the times for QPR this season I'm sure he'd appreciate a move to a side where he can become a regular in the starting line-up.
Benali Saint Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 I keep hearing that a move for Jarvis will happen as will a mo e for Curtis Davies
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 I keep hearing that a move for Jarvis will happen as will a mo e for Curtis Davies Keep hearing from where?
S-Clarke Posted 16 May, 2012 Posted 16 May, 2012 I keep hearing that a move for Jarvis will happen as will a mo e for Curtis Davies If we do end up getting both, it would signal the start of an excellent transfer window IMO. I think it's pretty clear we're genuinely interested in Jarvis tbh and I'm pleased that we're looking at players of this level.
