Thedelldays Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 None too sure if you could play Sigurdsson and Lallana in the same side though, similar roles? that and sigurdsson seems to operate as an advanced CM of a three......where as we play more of 2 sitting CM with the wide players offering more creativity when they cut in, one of our strikers pulls out wide

Chez Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 I think Pilkington is a much better player than Snodgrass tbh.Pilkington has pace and no matter what anyone says that is very important, especially out wide.

Wonder if we will look to do the same?
Chez Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Does whittingham have anything except set pieces? Not seen much.I'm with you there. decent Championship player, but no more if you ask me.
Thedelldays Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 I'm with you there. decent Championship player, but no more if you ask me. well, his fellow pros did not think so if you judged many of our players on televised games, you would not touch them with your mates shytty stick
jjsaint Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 None too sure if you could play Sigurdsson and Lallana in the same side though, similar roles? Manure are in for Sigurdsson apparently. I don't think we will come close to getting him. So that's the end of that argument.
david in sweden Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 (edited) I would like to see us make moves for the following: 1) Peter Whittingham - Great dead ball delivery & takes a great (left sided) freekick 2) Jordan Rhodes - Had numerous Premier League scouts watching him a couple of months ago. 1 that could be a surprise package in the Premier League; & 3) Matt Phillips - Great pace, has a trick, direct & still young. I think he would scare the sh*t out of some Premiership full backs given the oppourtunit you know that may not be so stupid as it might sound. Rhodes obviously would want to play at the highest level possible, and there aren't any "big name " team in Yorkshire these day (unless the locals persist in reckoning with Leeds), but if Hudd f'd fail to qual. throught the play-offs AGAIN..then he would be a good buy - when you consider we have a number of squad players who have good L1 experience, and CDAJF them in a part-ex deal. Even if a Northern club comes in for him, there's no guarantee he would be a first choice pålayer with Liverpool or Newcastle. Edited 9 May, 2012 by david in sweden
skintsaint Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 1) Peter Whittingham - Great dead ball delivery & takes a great (left sided) freekick We have Fox for that so pointless imo.
S-Clarke Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Kieran Trippier... In a double deal with Jay Rod. + a player... is/was the rumour.
S-Clarke Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Burnley have turned down 2 bids from Premier League teams for Jay Rodriguez. One included Kieran Trippier and a player swap #twitterclarets
Window Cleaner Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 (edited) Burnley have turned down 2 bids from Premier League teams for Jay Rodriguez. One included Kieran Trippier and a player swap #twitterclarets Can't be much of secret that we'll need a new right back really so I'd think that we might well be one of those teams. Not so sure whether we need Rodriguez though but if Nigel thinks we do then I guess he's right. Edited 9 May, 2012 by Window Cleaner
S-Clarke Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko Burnley making a move for a right back. That's odd. Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko @danbsfc Working on a Saints story. Can't go into too much detail yet.

Not so sure whether we need Rodriguez though but if Nigel thinks we do then I guess he's right. Didn't realise that Trippier was actually Burnley's player of the season, really rated up there. To be fair, we seem to like Burnley full backs.
beavis17 Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 In a double deal with Jay Rod. + a player... is/was the rumour. Yes please.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Rodriguez and Trippier would be great additions IMO.
del boy Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Burnley have turned down 2 bids from Premier League teams... OMG that could be us now...
SuperMikey Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 I thought we missed a trick when Burnley signed Trippier, quality player imo. Quick, good delivery and a good engine. Coupled with Jay Rod that would be a fantastic deal.
S-Clarke Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 According to Alan Nixon on twitter, Burnley want in excess of 8m just for Jay Rod, so that deal is now dead.
doggface Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Unlikely I know but I would put in a cheeky bid of £8 mill for hoilett. We haven't replaced oxo and the lad is quality.
View From The Top Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 According to Alan Nixon on twitter, Burnley want in excess of 8m just for Jay Rod, so that deal is now dead. It is considering what the gentlemans agreement was! They are simply being greedy and, so I'm led to believe, the player and his parents don't want to miss out on a move and are putting pressure on the club. Jay Rods dad was a time served "face" back in the day.
View From The Top Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Unlikely I know but I would put in a cheeky bid of £8 mill for hoilett. We haven't replaced oxo and the lad is quality. We have no chance of getting Hoilett. Genuine big teams are after him.
MOSaint Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 They want 8m at the moment when there is a whole summer to negotiate. For 8m you would expect to be getting established PL quality or a player who has done well in France/Holland or equivalent.

Dig Dig Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 £8 Million?!!? Are they off their t*ts???? Mental... Watch that price coming crashing down as the weeks go buy. No need for them to settle for less just yet. No way will anyone pay 8M for a championship striker in the final year of his contract.
Dig Dig Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 how much did Cisse cost the geordies...? Think it was 9M
Lighthouse Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Surely this is just basic negotiation. Burnley will be demanding £8m knowing full well they will have to settle for about 5 eventually. We probably stuck a price tag on AOC nearer £20m when Arsenal came calling, that's just how it works.
MarkSFC Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 even if it cost us 10 mil for JRod and Trippier, which I doubt it really would, add in the 2 ish mil for Sharp thats 3 good players with lots of potential for the loss of Oxo. Seems like a great overall deal to me.
SuperSAINT Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Which deal was Nixon bang-on about with us? Was it the Sharp deal?
Bailey Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Which deal was Nixon bang-on about with us? Was it the Sharp deal? Sharp deal, and he was aware of our interest in Danny Collins too.
SuperSAINT Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Sharp deal, and he was aware of our interest in Danny Collins too. Cheers mate. Don't know enough on Trippier to comment, but J-Rod is quality. EIGHT MILLION though!
Thedelldays Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 07 May 2012 16:14:43 Jay Rodriguez (£6m), Matt Jarvis (£5m), Curtis Davies (£3.5m), Matt Phillips (£3m) and Mark Davies (£1.75m) are all on Nigel Adkins' transfer wish list. Radhi Jaidi (retired), David Connolly (released), Lee Holmes (Swindon - free), Jonathan Forte (Stevenage - free), Aaron Martin (Swindon - loan), Lee Barnard (Sheff Wed - 500K) and Dan Seaborne (Bournemouth - loan) are all set to leave St. Mary's this summer. Source very well placed at Southampton. Expect movement to start next week after players return from their celebratory holiday in Marbella. from the ever reliable rumours site
View From The Top Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 from the ever reliable rumours site All very plausible.
Nidger Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 1) never seen anything of him besides set pieces. that's not enough for a place in the team. might as well pick MLT! 2) could be great, could be awful. i don't believe many of us have seen enough of him, and I'd rather have Sharp playing to be honest. Given we have Lambert, Sharp and Lee, I can't see us paying lots for a L1 striker. Huge ask to step up 2 leagues in one go. 3) Yes. 1) Delivery is a lot more important in the Premier League thou, u may only get a few opportunities to score so a good delivery could be crucial! I think he offers more than a good set piece thou. 2) He maybe an unknown quantity to us but that also means he will be an unknown quantity for the opposition as well! Pilkington has shown that it is possible for a player to jump 2 leagues at once and still put in good performances. I think he could be worth the chance as long as the fee isn't too big. I do agree that atm Lambert & Sharp are our starting partnership up front thou.

Nidger Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 We have no chance of getting Hoilett. Genuine big teams are after him. Junior Hoilett is out of contract at Blackburn at the end of the season so he will be available on a free. He will definitely be off to 1 of the more established teams in the Premiership unfortunately!
thorpie the sinner Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 from the ever reliable rumours site## Thought players were in Vegas
thorpie the sinner Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Nope. Thought NC was treating them or is that a different trip?

Armchair Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 No way Don will bid 8 million for Jay rod and to be honest he won't need to. i think 4 million plus add ons will be more than ample.
View From The Top Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Thought NC was treating them or is that a different trip? I believe the plan was to go for the fight last Saturday but the end of season do put pay to that so they are on a Spanish jolly. As usual I'm most likely wrong.

itchen_dan Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Burke looks a player. Would be a great outlet for sure. Just think Phillips would suit our style better by drifting in and linking up with the strikers.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Burke looks a player. Yep he was on my wish list since we won promotion along with matt phillips. These two along with jay rod, curtis davies plus a decent right back would be grand.
thorpie the sinner Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Now they are staying in Championship, I would def be in for Burke!
BlakeySFC Posted 9 May, 2012 Posted 9 May, 2012 Now Birmingham aren't going up. Curtis Davis and Chris Burke CDAJFU
