Wiggles31 Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Adam Bogdan would be a decent 'keeper to bring in if Bolton do indeed go down. Bogdan has made some absolute howlers this season.
pingwing Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 PREMIER League-bound Southampton will make a £3million bid for defender Curtis Davies if Birmingham fail to win promotion. (From The Sun) I think the sun have been on here too long... Wouldn't say no at 3m though! Adam Bogdan would be a decent 'keeper to bring in if Bolton do indeed go down. No better than Bart really, makes a few blinding saves then concedes a few really soft goals.
Turkish Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 I think the sun have been on here too long... Wouldn't say no at 3m though! No better than Bart really, makes a few blinding saves then concedes a few really soft goals. Davis cost £8 only 4 years ago, would be decent. No better than Bart, course not.
Psycrow Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 I'd love to get Holden, fantastic player. Seems like a good chap too. Seems to have an awful lot of injuries though doesn't he? I know its been a couple of bad ones since joining, but I seem to remember reading an article about him in WSC a couple of years ago while he was still playing in the States and injuries being an issue even back then.
Lighthouse Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 You have to cut Bogdan a bit of slack, playing behind that Bolton defence can't be easy. Watching MOTD last night, they were all over the place at the back. I think some of the stick he gets probably comes from letting in that goal kick at Everton earlier in the year but he's certainly better than Bart IMO. Wouldn't take Holden though, as good as I think he is. With his injury problems he could be the next Dean Ashton or Michael Svensson.
Raging Bull Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Davis cost £8 only 4 years ago, would be decent. No better than Bart, course not. Think we could do better than Davis IMO and as for Bogdan, needs to shave his head, far too much orange going on there!
Window Cleaner Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 If we don't sign anyone from a relegated PL side that would be just fine with me.
S-Clarke Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Think we could do better than Davis IMO and as for Bogdan, needs to shave his head, far too much orange going on there! Davis will start for us next year and he deserves a 2nd crack in the premier league. I expect we'll sign a younger keeper who has the potential to take over Davis in a year or so, someone who doesn't have the nerves of Bart...!
S-Clarke Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 If we don't sign anyone from a relegated PL side that would be just fine with me. If's a tricky one, you don't want to fill your squad with relegated players - but the relegated teams do have some gems in them. I still think the best approach is to sign the best young players from the league(s) below- Rhodes, Phillips, Ince, Rodriquez, Trippier, Kasper..
Itchen_block4 Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Adam Bogdan would be a decent 'keeper to bring in if Bolton do indeed go down. Wotsit!

S-Clarke Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Think we're more likely to go 'continental' myself. If we'd have wanted those players we'd have acquired them by now. True. I hope we find better imports than Steve though!
beavis17 Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Aaron Ramsey on loan? Could find himself out of favour at the beginning of next season and seems to fit in with our ethos of player.

killer fan Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 How about rodwell from everton he's young and quality
S-Clarke Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 How about rodwell from everton he's young and quality Now we're being ridiculous.
beavis17 Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 How about rodwell from everton he's young and quality The guy that will inevitably move to Manchester United within the next couple of years? Ok then.

Could find himself out of favour at the beginning of next season and seems to fit in with our ethos of player. absolute garbage, Morgan and Corky are both far better players already. The number of errors that Ramsey commits is incredible, don't know why Wenger persists with him, well I do actually, they always have so many long term injuries (like Diaby and Wilshere) that he doesn't have much choice.

Not sure I agree with you there really. You have to remember he's only 21, he's had to recover from a terrible leg-break and is used to playing passing football in that Arsenal team. A loan move could be what he needs to regain some confidence to a club where he isn't under so much pressure. The only criticism you could have is that he is guilty of slowing the play down, especially on counter attacks but even Adam is guilty of that sometimes! I think you would be silly to write off a player of his age who has 1 goal in 4 for Wales as well. Would be a top signing IMO.

paulwantsapint Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Could any Cardiff player dajfu ? Now they aren't going up
Matthew Le God Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Could any Cardiff player dajfu ? Now they aren't going up They only have one player of note that would interest Adkins... Peter Whittingham.
ottery st mary Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Possibly Whittingham... But for me Ben Turner at Centre Back...age 23/24 has the potential to be a top flight player with corrective coaching...
Badger Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Possibly Whittingham... But for me Ben Turner at Centre Back...age 23/24 has the potential to be a top flight player with corrective coaching... I was impressed by his performance in the Carling Cup match, but not sure reading others observations over the play offs that he would be up to it. Their GK in the cup game, Heaton looked okay, although I now hope we are aiming higher.

Agreed re Turner...his form has fallen away and has made mistakes......but he has the potential and with Crosby on the case...to bring him back on course...he would be a very useful aquisition... in the group with Fonte , Jos and Martin Also Dale Jennings at Bayern Munich reserves only played 65 mins the other night... because he has been out with injury...one to watch... Window Cleaner Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 They only have one player of note that would interest Adkins... Peter Whittingham. pretty unimpressive this afternoon.
norwaysaint Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 I actually know Ben Turner fairly well. He's not only a good player but a very intelligent lad. I was his teacher years ago and he was top of his year group in pretty much all subjects. He once promised to clobber Leon Best in training for me when they were both at Coventry. He used to play in midfield and captained a team that won everything in the Birmingham area, he played just in front of Manny Smith who's now at Walsall.
saintquin Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Gordon, Davies, Mutch, Zaha, Philips I thought she was a horse rider!
Thedelldays Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 one thing is fir sure, we won't be getting moses.... how good are wigan now they play 343...?
S-Clarke Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 one thing is fir sure, we won't be getting moses.... how good are wigan now they play 343...? They're neat and tidy, but pretty useless in the final third. If they could get themselves a proper centre forward in the summer that could hit them 20 goals, they'd be laughing. Blackburn though, holy ****. What a pile of dross.

Moses aside just look at the players they have... di santo, ffs....I think martinez is a great manager...fightening to think if they had decent players up front...imagine lambert instead of di santo...ffs

Not sure where you could play him to be honest...as a winger?
saint_stevo Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Di Santo is a quality player i reckon. Perfect no10 striker. Needs to be getting 10+ a season though, which at a club that wasn't struggling like Wigan i think he would
pingwing Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Well seeing as Blackburn have been relegated, time to rank and poach from them. Very interested in Hoilett and Martin Olssen. Goodwillie, Rochina and Nzonzi should also be worth a look...

Goodwillie, Rochina and Nzonzi should also be worth a look... The only play worth looking at is Hoilett, the rest aren't great. The problem is that bigger clubs will get him before us. Not sure what you've seen in Goodwillie to recommend him???????
Genk Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 If Bolton get relegated on the weekend.....how about Chris Eagles? Previous poster...no chance in getting Hoilett
Nexstar Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 Well seeing as Blackburn have been relegated, time to rank and poach from them. Very interested in Hoilett and Martin Olssen. Goodwillie, Rochina and Nzonzi should also be worth a look... Ahh David Goodwillie, 2 goals in 17 games for a now relegated Blackburn side. He must be good enough.
maxi_sopez Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 No way Hoilett is coming to us, he is going to a BIG BIG club. Saying that, thats a good Blackburn team, we should look at some of them, sadly for them they had a god awful manager
CWD Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 David Dunn would be a good signing. I think his premier league experience would be crucial in the dressing room. Granted, I haven't sen much of him this season though.
SaintNeil90 Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 No to David Dunn, he's always injured. Came off before half time tonight.
Rebel Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 No to David Dunn, he's always injured. Came off before half time tonight. Isn't he well past it by now as well
Cestrian Saint Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 A mate was telling me today that Liverpool are looking to offload Kuyt for £1m. He could definitely do a job for us. Wages could well be a stumbling block.

Wages could well be a stumbling block. I've always seen him as a player that slows down and restricts the teams attack. He doesn't score many either. Not sure what he does to be fair.
Cestrian Saint Posted 7 May, 2012 Posted 7 May, 2012 If we're looking for a keeper then Robinson from Blackburn would be a good option. Just before the WC he had the best record of the English keepers in the Prem but was left out in favour of Robert Green and David James. :-/

Just before the WC he had the best record of the English keepers in the Prem but was left out in favour of Robert Green and David James. :-/ I thought Robinson was going to be an excellent keeper when he was younger but he's never really seemed to reach his potential. I think one of his problems is his weight, which - funnily enough - is a good reason for us to think seriously about signing him. With our fitness and nutrition programmes, he could be our keeper for the next five years. He's three years younger than Kelvin.
