supersonic Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 "Wigan are being linked with a move for Levante striker Arouna Kone, who notched 17 goals in 34 games last season." From what I can remember, he can also play as a RW. Surely worth a try. Are you getting him mixed up with Bakary Kone? He's more of a Theo Walcott mould forward. Arouna Kone was half decent during his time at Sevilla

Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Why can't we just sign a half decent, pacey centre back? There must be some around that are within our price range, surely. I'm getting so desperate that I'm thinking Scott Dann may not even be that bad an idea. From reading your posts recently I would have never guessed you were desperate! jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 not sure a lot will happen all the while cortesi in on holiday. although no official confirmation that cortesi is on hols alan nixon from mirror is adamant he is on holiday and not away working and will return end of the week. ok transfers can be sanctioned without the chairman at some clubs but if cortesi has the control like we are led to believe then it is unlikely he will allow such deals unless he is there to oversee, imo of course. i just hope saints pull something out of the bag sooner rather than later. to be fair even a new signing today has little time to gel and bed in before city game especially a new centre back. Saint_clark Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 There is no way Cortese would allow himself to have such a negative impact on things. If he is away, then he'll still be overseeing deals over the phone/online.

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 My eternally optimistic side is hoping that the reason there's still been no announcement of the squad numbers is because we're hopeful of adding a player or 2 before the Citeh game. My realistic side says, though, that we just haven't announced them yet. Schizophrenia is so hard to deal with; I never know which side of me to believe. Rasiak-9- Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 He was back in full training last week and was out training with the team on the pitch at St Mary's before the Udinese game. Steven Davis played in the friendlies against Wolves, Bristol City and Udinese. Do they? I must have missed that. Cheers for response. Completely missed Davis in those friendlies, great news on Lee. When I say most fans, I mean most of the people I talked to where I sat last season (STH Itchen North so full of a fair few old grumblers) and who I spoke to on away trips (perhaps similar) Honestly I don't think that our c/ship squad would stay up without significant improvement. Although naturally I of course hope I'm wrong.

Smirking_Saint Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 The thing with some on here, is they think this forum represents the majority of fans...it doesn't. I don't know of one fan, outside of a few bedwetters on here, who think like this...I'll agree that we needed signings, but I also think, that the ones we have signed to date, have been very good for a team of our size and standing. Four signings, four youth promoted to the first team squad, Lee nearly fit, and like a new signing as well, plus Puncheon. maysie Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Saw William Gallas' name on the football rumours website. Would be exactly the kind of transfer we need - experienced quick premier league player. IF we got someone in like that and another younger CB on the cheap in Europe I'd be made up. However, just seen QPR are after him and have been put off by the fact he won't reduce his £60,000 a week wage, so seems doubtful we'd be willing to pay that.. Would still take him though, even if just for a year to add experience to the current crop, but as you said wage demands probably too high. pingwing Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 Twitter says we're looking at a loan deal for Gael Kakuta at Chelsea. Got him on a free on FM in 2016 (and is the tapping up case from a few years back) Could be good, though looks like so far he's a brilliant advert for the Chelsea "buy everyone and see what happens" rout of management (otherwise known as get paid a lot to do not a lot). If his fifa/fm rating lives up to reality, he's a proper step up from punch.
SNSUN Posted 13 August, 2012 Share Posted 13 August, 2012 We'll get battered by City even if we do sign 1 or 2 more, lets be honest. Exactly my earlier point. 3 of our first 4 games are tough as hell, and we'll do very well to even pick up a point from them, so even a couple of panic additions this week won't make things different. There's 3 weeks left of the transfer window, I'd rather we bide our time and bring in the correct signings. If we make the correct signings this week, well that would be the perfect scenario. But I don't see it.
