"Wigan are being linked with a move for Levante striker Arouna Kone, who notched 17 goals in 34 games last season."

From what I can remember, he can also play as a RW. Surely worth a try.

Are you getting him mixed up with Bakary Kone? He's more of a Theo Walcott mould forward.

Arouna Kone was half decent during his time at Sevilla

not sure a lot will happen all the while cortesi in on holiday. although no official confirmation that cortesi is on hols alan nixon from mirror is adamant he is on holiday and not away working and will return end of the week. ok transfers can be sanctioned without the chairman at some clubs but if cortesi has the control like we are led to believe then it is unlikely he will allow such deals unless he is there to oversee, imo of course.

i just hope saints pull something out of the bag sooner rather than later. to be fair even a new signing today has little time to gel and bed in before city game especially a new centre back.

imo of course.

For a minute I thought it was someone else's opinion. Glad you cleared it up! ;) :p

It is possible for Cortese to be in control whilst not in the country, he can use the phone and/or internet.

My eternally optimistic side is hoping that the reason there's still been no announcement of the squad numbers is because we're hopeful of adding a player or 2 before the Citeh game. My realistic side says, though, that we just haven't announced them yet. Schizophrenia is so hard to deal with; I never know which side of me to believe.

Four pages away? There'll be suicides by then!

Unless someone spams incessantly, then we may sign someone today...

Where's Dalek when you need him? (BTW never thought I'd hear myself say that!)

He was back in full training last week and was out training with the team on the pitch at St Mary's before the Udinese game.

Steven Davis played in the friendlies against Wolves, Bristol City and Udinese.

Do they? I must have missed that.

Cheers for response. Completely missed Davis in those friendlies, great news on Lee.

When I say most fans, I mean most of the people I talked to where I sat last season (STH Itchen North so full of a fair few old grumblers) and who I spoke to on away trips (perhaps similar)

Honestly I don't think that our c/ship squad would stay up without significant improvement. Although naturally I of course hope I'm wrong.

Sigh, what about David Bentley on loan. Doesn't have pace but his delivery would suit Lambert massively. Was great at Blackburn a few years ago.

We have our targets, have enquired about lots of players, need to decide which ones to go for now as Nixon says.

Pretty sure Bentley won't be on the list.

The thing with some on here, is they think this forum represents the majority of fans...it doesn't. I don't know of one fan, outside of a few bedwetters on here, who think like this...I'll agree that we needed signings, but I also think, that the ones we have signed to date, have been very good for a team of our size and standing. Four signings, four youth promoted to the first team squad, Lee nearly fit, and like a new signing as well, plus Puncheon.

Good youthfull signing yes, but potential to keep us in the prem ? Im worried.

Love how i have gone from happy slapper to negative in 3 posts though, good consistency there eh ?

Am I happy with our signings ? Very !

Do I wish we mixed them in with a few experienced heads ? Defo

As per WHU how many of the big names they have been linked with have signed ?

Saw William Gallas' name on the football rumours website. Would be exactly the kind of transfer we need - experienced quick premier league player. IF we got someone in like that and another younger CB on the cheap in Europe I'd be made up. However, just seen QPR are after him and have been put off by the fact he won't reduce his £60,000 a week wage, so seems doubtful we'd be willing to pay that..

Where did you get quick from? Good player in his days, bags of experience. Wouldn't say no, but I just think he'll demand more than we're willing to pay.

I thought he was quick? Maybe good positional play and power gave me the illusion he was quick.

He may have been quick in his day, but I remember him being outpaced quite a few times for Spurs in the last year or 2. Injured a fair bit now too.

TBF, I probably haven't seen him play much in the last year or so. Would still take him though, even if just for a year to add experience to the current crop, but as you said wage demands probably too high.

Not convinced NC is on holiday. This is a very crucial period for the club to get ready for the start of a very serious campaign and for chief not be around the club = terrible timing IMHO. Hope there is nothing more sinister in it.

People like NC are never truly on holiday, no matter where they are in the world. He will be communicating with Les Read and Nigel Adkins on a daily basis, if not more often.

Twitter says we're looking at a loan deal for Gael Kakuta at Chelsea.

Got him on a free on FM in 2016 :D (and is the tapping up case from a few years back)

Could be good, though looks like so far he's a brilliant advert for the Chelsea "buy everyone and see what happens" rout of management (otherwise known as get paid a lot to do not a lot).

If his fifa/fm rating lives up to reality, he's a proper step up from punch.

We'll get battered by City even if we do sign 1 or 2 more, lets be honest.

Exactly my earlier point. 3 of our first 4 games are tough as hell, and we'll do very well to even pick up a point from them, so even a couple of panic additions this week won't make things different. There's 3 weeks left of the transfer window, I'd rather we bide our time and bring in the correct signings. If we make the correct signings this week, well that would be the perfect scenario. But I don't see it.

Why so vague with the source? "twitter", what is that meant to mean? That could be anyone from a credible source like the player himself or a random person anywhere in the world making up rumours.

The same feed which claims P'boro are keen on Bullard, when their chairman has already denied it.
