Dunne isn't past it at all. He could still do a job in this league easily. Might have bad days, but he is quality when he is playing his best.

Probably not past it yet, but he's on the decline. Doesn't strike me as the sort of player we're after in this day and age.

And based on his showings at the Euro's, I'm not sure if he can do a consistent job at the top anymore.

Dunne and Barry are not thé way forward. Getting old and past it. I seriously think we should be looking at thé french league for players. There are really some hidden gems overthere and there are used to playing the 4-5-1 formation we've been using in pre season. The prices will also be cheaper than what is being talked about in england.

Would love to see Jorge Valdivia brought in.

Was told the Dani Benitez rumour had legs in it a while ago, wonder if it has anything to do with Puncheon doing well.

Dani Benitez is a player we've been tracking for a while isn't he? I swear we were linked last summer too.

William Gallas

set to leave?? Yes f**king please!!!

Would very much like to see him in a prem team. Only because he's stupidly past it and would be nice to see a prem defence that is completely hindered by how terrible his is. West Ham can pay him a lot to basically be stuck with 1 CB all season...

In other news, does anyone have any idea whatsoever about how long it'll be before we get Lee back? We desperately need someone who can offer a different kind of threat up front and if we're really not going to be singing anyone else then please god let it be soon.

Speaking of which how long is Steven Davis out for? For all intents and purposes our actual first XI has been improved with two (albeit decent) c/ship players in Clyne and Rodriguez and I think the vast majority of Saints fans were in agreement that we needed 5 or 6 experienced Premiership players before the new season if we were going to really compete. At the moment I just feel the best we can hope for is just about scraping survival, and even that is something I'd be more than happy with.

He was back in full training last week and was out training with the team on the pitch at St Mary's before the Udinese game.

Steven Davis played in the friendlies against Wolves, Bristol City and Udinese.

Do they? I must have missed that.

Clearly you did miss that

The thing with some on here, is they think this forum represents the majority of fans...it doesn't. I don't know of one fan, outside of a few bedwetters on here, who think like this...I'll agree that we needed signings, but I also think, that the ones we have signed to date, have been very good for a team of our size and standing. Four signings, four youth promoted to the first team squad, Lee nearly fit, and like a new signing as well, plus Puncheon.

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins is still weighing up potential signings and reports in L'Equipe claim the Premier League new boys are considering a move for Cesena defender Yohan Benalouane. The 25-year-old has also been linked with Everton and Parma following Cesena's relegation to Serie B.
