Yorkshire Saint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Considering Stoke have just brought in Cameron, perhaps one of their CB's is off and there is some truth in the Shawcross rumours. Could also be what Adkins was saying about other teams targets being in place. 100% correct!
Crazy Diamond Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Richard Dunne? Christ. He's past it. On the decline for years from what I've seen and heard.
Super_Saint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Dunne isn't past it at all. He could still do a job in this league easily. Might have bad days, but he is quality when he is playing his best.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 New Mexico? I think he'll play a big part in all honesty. Barry will drop out of favour now and will probably go out on loan in january when he hasn't played at all. Barry cdajfu imo
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Dunne isn't past it at all. He could still do a job in this league easily. Might have bad days, but he is quality when he is playing his best. Probably not past it yet, but he's on the decline. Doesn't strike me as the sort of player we're after in this day and age. And based on his showings at the Euro's, I'm not sure if he can do a consistent job at the top anymore.
Wade Garrett Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Dunne isn't past it at all. He could still do a job in this league easily. Might have bad days, but he is quality when he is playing his best. I'm not too sure. He has been garbage for the past 2 seasons.
Crazy Diamond Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I'm not too sure. He has been garbage for the past 2 seasons. Thank you.
simondo Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 William Gallas set to leave?? Yes f**king please!!!
CanadaSaint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I don't get it. Everyone says we're short of pace all over the park (except RB) and yet some are talking about players like Dunne and Barry. Don't see them helping at all, I'm afraid.
stevy777_x Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Dunne and Barry are not thé way forward. Getting old and past it. I seriously think we should be looking at thé french league for players. There are really some hidden gems overthere and there are used to playing the 4-5-1 formation we've been using in pre season. The prices will also be cheaper than what is being talked about in england.
Benali Saint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 William Gallas set to leave?? Yes f**king please!!! West Ham in for him
Monk Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Would love to see Jorge Valdivia brought in. Was told the Dani Benitez rumour had legs in it a while ago, wonder if it has anything to do with Puncheon doing well.
MOSaint Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I don't think Punchons form has changed anything. After all we've been busy allegedly tapping up Matt Phillips.
Monk Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 I don't think Punchons form has changed anything. After all we've been busy allegedly tapping up Matt Phillips. Benitez is a left winger.
RedSolo Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Dunne is average at best, we need some quality, not a bodge job.
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 Would love to see Jorge Valdivia brought in. Was told the Dani Benitez rumour had legs in it a while ago, wonder if it has anything to do with Puncheon doing well. Dani Benitez is a player we've been tracking for a while isn't he? I swear we were linked last summer too.
pingwing Posted 12 August, 2012 Posted 12 August, 2012 William Gallas set to leave?? Yes f**king please!!! Would very much like to see him in a prem team. Only because he's stupidly past it and would be nice to see a prem defence that is completely hindered by how terrible his is. West Ham can pay him a lot to basically be stuck with 1 CB all season...

Just no.
Rasiak-9- Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 In other news, does anyone have any idea whatsoever about how long it'll be before we get Lee back? We desperately need someone who can offer a different kind of threat up front and if we're really not going to be singing anyone else then please god let it be soon. Speaking of which how long is Steven Davis out for? For all intents and purposes our actual first XI has been improved with two (albeit decent) c/ship players in Clyne and Rodriguez and I think the vast majority of Saints fans were in agreement that we needed 5 or 6 experienced Premiership players before the new season if we were going to really compete. At the moment I just feel the best we can hope for is just about scraping survival, and even that is something I'd be more than happy with.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 In other news, does anyone have any idea whatsoever about how long it'll be before we get Lee back? He was back in full training last week and was out training with the team on the pitch at St Mary's before the Udinese game. Speaking of which how long is Steven Davis out for? Steven Davis played in the friendlies against Wolves, Bristol City and Udinese. I think the vast majority of Saints fans were in agreement that we needed 5 or 6 experienced Premiership players before the new season if we were going to really compete. Do they? I must have missed that.

Gingeletiss Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Clearly you did miss that The thing with some on here, is they think this forum represents the majority of fans...it doesn't. I don't know of one fan, outside of a few bedwetters on here, who think like this...I'll agree that we needed signings, but I also think, that the ones we have signed to date, have been very good for a team of our size and standing. Four signings, four youth promoted to the first team squad, Lee nearly fit, and like a new signing as well, plus Puncheon. Saint Charlie Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 West Ham likely to sign Matt Jarvis today and have also put in offer for Clint Dempsey Just like they put in an offer for Carroll? Dempsey wants Champions League. EDIT: Just heard West Ham have bid for Neymar too.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Good get Phillips and CB Apparently Phillips likely destination now is Everton. This is what happens when you wait to secure your targets.
Saint Garrett Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 It would be funny if WHU try get all these players and then end up scrambling around desparately at the end of the window.

TK8267 Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Southampton manager Nigel Adkins is still weighing up potential signings and reports in L'Equipe claim the Premier League new boys are considering a move for Cesena defender Yohan Benalouane. The 25-year-old has also been linked with Everton and Parma following Cesena's relegation to Serie B. on SSN transfer clockwatch.

Saint Garrett Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Same club that we got Guly from. Could have legs. Anyone know anything about him? I recognise his name but dont think I've ever seen him play.

Saint Charlie Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Juventus nearly signed Benalouane last year - also linked with Newcastle recently. Looks an interesting player.
MOSaint Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Benalouane was very much second choice CB in a Cesena side that finished bottom by 10 points last season.
Saint Charlie Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Benalouane was very much second choice CB in a Cesena side that finished bottom by 10 points last season. Ah ok - what type of centre half is he? Pace?

Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Brilliant, so that's what we've been reduced to, the rapist 2nd CB of a team relegated by 10 points from a league inferior to the Premiership.
Saint Charlie Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Brilliant, so that's what we've been reduced to, the rapist 2nd CB of a team relegated by 10 points from a league inferior to the Premiership. Accused of...but see your point.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 Why can't we just sign a half decent, pacey centre back? There must be some around that are within our price range, surely. I'm getting so desperate that I'm thinking Scott Dann may not even be that bad an idea.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 13 August, 2012 Posted 13 August, 2012 "Wigan are being linked with a move for Levante striker Arouna Kone, who notched 17 goals in 34 games last season." From what I can remember, he can also play as a RW. Surely worth a try.
