Hmmm. I guess at least it means we're interested in him!

Yep, that's a positive swing on it!

To be honest, as much as Holloway moans, these sort of approaches happen all the time. Not direct tapping up as such, but the sounding out of a players representative(s) before a formal approach is made in order to discuss terms. There's no point in putting all the work into a bid if the player himself isn't going to be interested or his demands would be too high to consider, so you'd do a bit of investigating first. That's all I see this is, but Holloway just has a bee in his bonnet over most things.

Love the fact it says they may also take action against philips agent. Says to me he had some hand in us getting involved and secondly can't imagine he'll be staying long at blackpool if they mess his agent about! Only question is what is the punishment for tapping up a player? Fine?

Holloway has always had a grudge against our club. WOuldn't surprise me at all if he is making this fuss just because it is us. A very petty and unlikable man.

That's how I see it, seems very bitter. I remember his comments in the FA Cup game a few years back.

If anything, I reckon this could have a reverse effect and force a transfer.

Think more shows how truly terrible Brighton are instead of Zaha being good...

Noone is deluding himself that they stand a chance of promotion next season.

they might. Need a little up front, but they aren't a bad side.

Certain people went mental for Steve de Ridder based on YouTube. I thought lessons had been learned...

I certainly didn't. I prefer to judge players on what I see of them in the flesh and Zaha is the most exciting talent in the Championship. Would have much rather have seen us sign him than Rodriguez (mostly because I've seen little of Rodriguez and what I have hasn't caught my eye at all). The lad (Zaha) certainly has the talent, the only question mark is his attitude.

Him and Ben Foster seem pretty shrewd signings. Don't know anything about their other purchases. Think they might have a decent season under Clarke.

Foster is a brilliant signing. Butland £6m, Foster £4m?

To be quite honest, I think we should give Puncheon a proper try at right mid. There is no denying that if he gets his head right then he is Prem quality.

I've always backed Jason, but he's not proved anything in the top flight. Hope he shines next season, but don't agree he has shown he is prem quality...yet. Edited by Chez

The Baggies played that one quite well. They got him on loan last year when his demand was less as he didn't have an amazing season for Brum, in that loan they made it so it would become permanent next season for a reduced fee if all parties agreed. I believe it was actually less than £4m.

Surprised ince and Phillips are still at blackpool

cash rich club with a stubborn manager means their prices are going to be scary. Phillips seemed to go off the boil right at the end of the season and Ince really shined, but would you pay say £8m for Ince. If I was Holloway that's the kind of figure I'd be using to scare clubs off.

Or he could just play the ''we'll report you if you approach Phillips'' card to scare teams off...

not sure I agree with you about his season at Brum. I thought the blues had gone backwards having lost Hart, but they didn't Foster was outstanding, which only makes the deal for him to join the baggies even more of a bargain.

and fair play to him. Decent club that want to keep the talent that they have nurtured. In the end though if either player wants to leave they work their way out of the contract like every player seems to do these days

And how many times have you seen Zaha in the flesh?

three. Many Saints fans weren't impressed, but I was. We kicked the **** out of him at SMS and double teamed him at their place - that's how much of a threat we thought he was. Despite this attention he still managed to break the shackles as least once beating Fox all ends up and getting in a great cross in that should have been tucked away. He has that strength and pace and a trick to create the chance. You need something a little out of the ordinary to score goals in the Prem.

Also saw the manure and cardiff games on the box. He was excellent in both of those. In the end Cardiff had to put three players on him AND kick the **** out of him. He was outstanding in that game.

Having said that he doesn't feel like an Adkins type of player to me, so I doubt he'll come here.

Fair enough. I'm going to remain unconvinced personally.

Has Royston Drenthe been mentioned? Can play LB and LM, available on a free transfer and has played in the PL. Only problem is his attitude and he is likely to want high wages.

He was on near £100k a week not too long ago and has disciplinary problems. I'd be amazed if he signed for us.

^ This.

A lot of people weren't impressed because they can't see that since he was literally their one and only threat we could afford to double-team him as much as we liked which any player is going to struggle against really.

“We are still actively working to bring players in,” he stated. “I know that we are working very hard and having spoken to the Chairman yesterday I am very excited because I know how hard he is working to make things happen.

“We have been out and about identifying players and as we have said, we will do all of that privately and behind the scenes because until they sign that piece of paper they aren’t your player.”

The claims made by Blackpool that winger Matt Phillips is illegally on Saints’ radar came as a disappointment to Adkins who explained that the club has acted with integrity as usual.

“It’s a shame that Blackpool have had to go and do things via the media in the way that they have done,” Nigel explained.

“I don’t think there is any hiding from the fact that Matt is a player that we have been an admirer of for the past few years, and I think in the last couple of weeks he has probably been identified as a target for a number of teams in the Premier League.

“I know that from the Chairman’s point of view he has been in contact with the Blackpool Chairman and that we have had a conversation with their Chief Executive, and I have spoken to Ian Holloway myself, so it’s not as if there has not been an interest demonstrated from Southampton.

“As I have said, we like to think that we do everything properly, by the book and we will continue to do our matters privately and behind the scenes. Obviously this situation has now arisen and we will take action on that and respond in the appropriate manner.”

is Richard Dunne the proven prem sort that some are calling for?

He is known to have an off day every now and then (and when he does it really is a stinker!) but still rate him As twice the player fonte is. In conclusion: yes i'd have richard dunne if he would come.

Considering Stoke have just brought in Cameron, perhaps one of their CB's is off and there is some truth in the Shawcross rumours. Could also be what Adkins was saying about other teams targets being in place.

That would be a cracking signing, but in all honesty I thought there'd be interest from bigger clubs.
