We can rule out an Interenational incoming. Nixon says he is Domestic based and is a player who be a Starter.

 

Young player then? Shame De Bruyne's been snapped up.

Just looked back through Nixon's timeline and he tweeted 4 hours ago (3pm ish)

So it's a left back he is on about.

Right so a domestic player and a left back. Most likely to be from one of the big clubs and a youngster. Any suggestions?

My 1st reaction was Bertrand, but thought he might be closer to the Chelsea 1st team after playing in the Champs league final....

 

I then thought Naughton @ Spurs, but I thought he was right-sided.

Wouldn't be Santon or Warnock, the only one I can think of it being is Bertand.

 

Young, english, better than what we have.

Is Gibbs a starter for Arsenal? Don't really know a whole lot about him, besides that he plays LB.

 

Gibbs is another shout, although he's got more of a chance of First team football than Bertrand.

Exactly my reaction even though I posted it. Who else is there out there that could come in on loan at LB, and replace Fox? He'd have to be pretty decent whoever it is.

What's unrealistic about it? He won't be a starter at Chelsea as Cole starts when fit (and he's always fit). Chelsea may feel that he needs a full-season in the PL to really start to kick on, that won't happen if he's sat around on a bench all season waiting for Cole to be injured.

 

Gibbs would be unrealistic as he's already first team at Arsenal.

Not necessarily. Bertrand started the Champions League final with Ashley Cole, so di Matteo may see an alternative role for him. Chelsea don't have another left sided defender so they have no proper backup for cole without Bertrand. Can't see him going anywhere, particularly as Cole is not getting any younger and indeed may need to be rested against the lesser teams and for cup games.

He went to Portsmouth on loan, and that was the start of the end.

That's an interesting shout, with a guaranteed transfer fee in it. It would be like a permanent transfer, delayed by a year.

 

I know WBA did that alot when they were relegated (brum did the same last year with Foster), they didn't sell their high earners...the loaned them out for the season and then made more profit the next year (IIRC....?) may be barking up the wrong tree.

Certainly more likely if they can get Baines to challenge Evra.

 

Doubt it as Nixon says the signing would be a starter for the team. Cant see an untried and untested 19 year old displacing Fox. This makes Bertrand more likely as he is a similar age but in a different league experience and quality wise.

He did really well last season, especially when moved to LW but will probably play LB this season.

Anything in the Benfica rumours? Is Fabio nailed on for a starting position at LB while your interest in Richardson/Heinze could mean Traore is surplus to requirements?

We r linked with Shaw Ross quite heavily at the moment. Rumours abound for the last few days and accelerated since stoke signed that new chap

Thinking of left backs that could go on loan - Danny Rose? Plays better on the wing but has been switched to a full-back recently. Could fill 2 positions and is a good, young British player which fits our transfer policy too - even if it would only be a loan.

Really hope not. I've spent years slagging him off as a footballer and don't fancy trying to find some good points.

The majority of what I've seen from Rose has been in England u21s so I'd hold back judgement as even the most gifted player tends to look worse when being coached by Stuart Pearce.

The left back we're after is... Danny Rose.
