Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition

Did I say it wasn't a concern? The implication by some is that we're doing diddly. Or that a lack of rumours indicates we're doing diddly. My point is that this may not be the case and is actually indicative of a wider lack of rumour. Simple really, obviously not simple enough for some.

I'm not sure why you're getting aggressive with me. In any case I must have failed to see the hordes of people claiming the club are doing nothing about signings; there seems to me to just be a concern that we haven't hit NA's targets of bringing players in before the 19th (and with no rumours in the wings as per previous signings its looking increasingly unlikely that we will). Would be disappointing to not hit the manager's expactations of readiness for the start of the season is all.

Aggressive? Hordes of people? I know it's hard sometimes to read tone of voice into these posts but really? I just find it incredible that a simple post with a simple point can be used as a point of argument. Some of you guys go to such lengths to make sure we all know you are right (yet again I am not picking on you, merely responding to your post). My point is, for the final time, that there has been little of note in the way of rumours, on the web, TV, or newspapers, with regards to any club let alone our own. When The Sun, The Mail and all those other ropey newspapers are scrabbling around for the grand total of eff all you know that things are quiet.

Quite a bit? Care to quantify that? To be quite frank the only ones I remember us being linked with reliably at an early stage were Clyne and Rodriguez. Both of these players we were rumoured to be interested in back in January. The early Gazzaniga rumours were purely someone on here hearing an interview with a manager about how great he was and asking if HCDAJFU. Let's face it, most of those we hear about early are generally those where the selling club or agent (or father) is trying to bump the price up. Many of these deals seem to end up dead in the water.

My point is that irrespective of what deals have been done, rumours across the board have been quiet. This is probably due to having two major(ish) tournaments over the summer and journalists working on the Olympics. It doesn't mean we haven't enquired, made bids or are not in talks with anyone. If you believe everyone's putting a suntan over club interests you are a pillock (not specifically aimed at you). Much like last year, if we fail to make further signings it will not be because we haven't tried but because we cannot acquire our targets.

Davis was reported about a month ahead?!

Seems very SSDD on here at the moment. Believe me, I want a new CB or two and RM as much as the next fan but there are some ****ing bed wetting pansies on here that seem to love the sound of their own voice bleating on about how NC shouldn't go on holiday and moaning that we are doing sweet FA because they haven't heard a made up rumour from Dave down the pub or ****ter.com in the last 5 minutes.

You can bet you bottom dollar these same people wanting a signing, any signing ASAP would be the first people to ***** and moan if we settled for anyone and brought in a player who they didn't think was worthy but they equally don't have any patience to wait for us to bring in the right people.

Chill out FFS there is still time, I'd rather wait and get the right player than bring in someone mediocre just to appease the bed wetters amongst us!

I'm not that concerned. Nigel Adkins has spoken publicly about transfers, and no doubt has had players in mind for some time. Jay Rod was obviously a gotta have him buy, but generally, we have got excellent value for money, in or out.

I speculate, but I imagine we've made quite a few enquiries and are playing chicken with deadline day to get the best value.

Again, someone completely misunderstanding the tone of the thread. There is no bed wetting going on, just people expressing their concerns.

There isn't a lack of rumours, and there certainly wasn't around 5 weeks ago. Now it has gone quiet, and that's the concern.

I'm sorry but compared with usual over the summer transfer window I'd say there is. But then it's pretty obvious we beg to differ so I'll leave you to your worrying while I continue enjoying the Olympics.

One reason for the lack of transfer rumours, the Olympics. Sports writers have far more important things to do at the moment. If there was no Olympics on then they'd be desperately trying to come up with stories before the season starts, i.e. a load of transfer rumours.

Is it just me or is this forum utter sh*te in close season?

The point is not that there is a lack all round. The point is that even though there is, there are still rumours. But none about us. For other rumours

I think it's a real shame that Bellamy is off to Cardiff, as he could certainly do a job for us as a wing/forward.

Not for me. He has definitely got ability but i doubt he would be interested. He's on mega money at Liverpool (reportedly 90k a week), will only join Cardiff as it's his boyhood club and there is always a very big chance that he will pick up a serious injury, as his injury record has shown. He's averaged about 20 games a season for the last 10 or so years...

Sure he may well have been mentioned at points on this thread (and probably others) but as its 100+ pages long i dont know. Apologies if this has been done already..

Anyway - Caulker at Spurs might be a realistic option at CB. Great on loan at Swansea last year, looked the part at the Olympics, will still be a bit down the pecking order at Spurs with Vertonghen, Dawson, Kaboul etc. Big, strong, pacey, good on the ball - fits the bill and he is what we need IMO.

Havent heard anything about this so nothing to it at all, just speculating about who we could move for in the CB position, but maybe a loan move for him would work for both parties.

Spurs are keeping hold of him by all accounts, they can see his potential.

Do we need another CM?

Chaplow, Hammond, Cork, Morgan, Ward-Prowse, Davis and also Lallana and Guly who can play there.

I'd be a bit ****ed if our next big transfer was a CM.

Probably not, but Chaplow and Hammond aren't really of the required quality, Ward Prowse is young and I actually think that Cork has got quite a bit worse over the last 6 months.

Cork had some great games in the second half of the season. He was superb at Palace especially.

Not sure how he has got worse over the summer break?

I disagree, I thought he tailed off massively from the high standard he set in the first half of the season.

I didn't mean over the Summer Break, but I thought you'd realise this. Let's say from January onwards.

You do seem to be following me around a bit at the moment, do you like my arse or something?

Personally didn't notice he tailed off, and as I say he was immense in the Palace game which was huge in our season - probably his best performance of the whole campaign. Shame is out injured.

As for the last comment - I am just having a debate with you on a football forum. I am probably commenting a lot because I don't agree with lots of the points you are making, but each to their own and no need for comments like that (which are probably classified as homophobic)

Not really. At least not as a priority anyway. There are certainly other positions that need strengthening first.

Well you can certainly see what BFS is going for (shock) with Diame and Diarra in CM. Not that its often they use the midfield.

Looking forward to seeing how we play in this new formation with Davis, Schneiderlin, Lallana being our probably first choice 3, with Cork, JWP, Guly, Hammond, CHaplow all in there as well.

I think Sunderland are insane personally. Fletcher had a good season goalscoring wise, but he's quite a limited player IMO. That's a hell of a price for him. Could easily see the goals dry up. But Sunderland have a history under many different managers of paying massive prices for average players. Not sure why they do it. They'll do fine, probably mid-table, but for the money they splash they could be higher than that. People bang on about O'Neill but I think Moyes would get a lot further with that sort of money. Still, better than spending it on Gyan.

I personally think O'Neill is a massively over-rated manager.

Fletcher is a decent striker, and I think he'll do well next season, although £12-15m is a lot. He tends to get a good few goals in low scoring teams.

Quotes from Martin O'Neil today which i think sums up the realistic nature of the transfer market - some on here could take note...

Unfortunately, I have been involved in late scrambles before, so it's nothing new to me in that sense," he admitted.

"Obviously, the most important issue is to try to get them in before the deadline finishes.

"Ideally it would be great to get them in and be part of the club before you kicked off the season, and we will do our utmost to do that.

"But unfortunately, I am unable to promise anything other than that we do have players in mind and we are trying our best to get them."

He's probably a good coach or whatever, but I wouldn't want him spending my money. My Villa mate always bangs on about how they were the top spenders in Europe two years running and he blew most of it on overpaid sh!te.
