Players For The PREMIER LEAGUE!!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Recommended Posts

I think we need players who will fit in with our squad - nobody who'll rock the boat. Youngish and hungry players without massive wage demands who can challenge for first team spots immediately, but will be part of a squad who all work for each other.

Priority positions for me would be; GK, RB, CB, CM, RM, but real top quality players could add to the squad elsewhere, too.

I really hope that some of the youth players come through to start being members of the first team squad, so don't want to fill the squad with players who are no better than the youngsters we have.

Not too many needed I don't think. The core of our team is good enough for the prem already.

Definitely need to address the RM situation. While I have been very impressed with Chaplow there at times this season, I don't think he is the man to line up there in the prem and neither is De Ridder, Puncheon or Guly.

I think Fox will do OK at LB but perhaps a new RB is needed as I'm not convinced of the PL credentials of either Richardson or Butterfield.

Up front, I'm not sure how well Sharp will do at that level. Obviously he has been a huge asset for us in the run-in but PL defences will be a whole new challenge. From what little I got to see of him before his injury, I reckon Chung will cause a few problems and will do well at PL level.

So a new RM, a new RB and another quality striker are a must. Another CB to provide quality cover would also be a useful addition.

We don't need any players. Look at what Swansea & Norwich have achieved by giving the players wot go them promotion the chance.

As I said in another thread, the story of Norwich's all pervading squad is a myth. They bought half a dozen players when they went from L1 to CCC, and another 7 when they were promoted to PL. they basically farmed the best Championship players. Swansea have brought in 5 or 6.

Apparently we had scouts watching PSV vs Feyenoord today. Somebody put on Twitter that we're after Dirk Marcellis/Marten Maartens.

This summer will be very exciting as promotion has opened up the window to some very exciting players.

We probably signed players that we shouldn't have this year (Cork at the start) and the year/18 months before (Fonte...). So this summer should be very exciting.

If we can stump up £5-7m in this league to offer Celtic, then god knows how much we can offer now. But as I siad on another thread, money doesn't buy everything....it's about getting the right players that add to the team, and I'm confident that our lot know what they're doing in that case.

Its quite clear that Bale is angling for a return. Said yesterday that he will consider his future if Spuds don't qualify for the Chumps League, so thats it, code for I'm going back to Saints.

Seriously we will sign Hooper I'm sure. Our main needs are for a new keeper (backup initially), 2 CBs (backup initially), new CM, preferably someone with PL experience and who can score goals and pacy winger (Bale).

We don't need any players. Look at what Swansea & Norwich have achieved by giving the players wot go them promotion the chance. Our squad will be massively motivated to be playing in the top flight (only Kelvin has done so I think, assuming Connoly retires?). Let them DAJFU and strengthen in January if needed. They deserve it.

this is a myth. Norwich brought in 7 players during the close season last year - and the year before that as well. They have just been integrated into the same style of play so it seems like the team has not really changed. This is what I believe adkins means by "evolution" but it doesn't mean we wont bring in at least 5 new players.

Jamie O'hara from Woves. Looked superb as a youngster at Spurs. Did ok whilst on loan with the Skates & earned a permanent move to Wolves which is enough to ruin any player. I'm sure Nige could get the best out of him.

Could add a bit of an attacking dimension to our central midfield

I'd try and get Corluka from Spurs, MacGregor from Rangers and Matt Phillips would be on my list.

I thought about Hargreaves (seeing that Man City wanted him when he seemed washed up) but I'm not sure.

Hargreaves would be a interesting one if he could stay injury free.

Would work very hard, retain the ball and give us that extra in defensive when needed. High wages I'd imagine which may upset the the others but still be worth a punt if we could get him for free.

Quality player

Hargreaves could be a good shout - Is Frimpong fit again as he looks a decent midfielder! Would the Arse loan or sell him again?

RB - Cline (young and hungry)

CB - Roger Johnson (back-to-back relegations isnt great, but he was doing really well at Brum the season before last and i still think he is a PL CB)

RM - Kightly (just running himself back into some great form for Wolves after his injury lay-off)

CM - Sigurdsson (Hopeful punt as i'm pretty certain he'll get a bigger move than us)

ST - Zaha (pace and great feet, young and desperate for PL football, will only get better and have to think he would play well feeding off Rickie)

If we got these five i would be absolutely delighted, three of them and we will have done well.

I don't watch enough UK football - or Italian for that matter - to really be able to comment. Noticed the pace (and height!) of Clyne when we played them, but few others stood out on the dodgy streams I watched on. I wouldn't be surprised if we picked up someone from Europe, and in Italy at the moment crowds are dropping, there are betting scandals, ultras threatening players - so I reckon we could offer a better package to the right player. Just show them the peaceful and happy pitch invasion and the happy players and the selling is done!

He has been awful on the pitch and a troublemaker off the pitch. I'd rather take a punt with Aaron Martin than try to ressurect Johnson's career...

I think that what both Norwich and Swansea did so well was keep the nucleus of their teams together and then add players who were very much hungry to succeed, i.e. no real stars / been there and done it types, just people who would immediately fit in and graft

Agree - Johnson has blotted his card big style..

Scott Dann would be a far better choice..

I'm not sure we'll go for any of the names that are being banded around on here. Who expected us to sign the likes of Lee or Jos? I would think that we've got a number of targets that nobody has heard of or expecting.

On the subject of Bale, I think people are having a laugh. He's been inked to some of the top clubs in Europe who will be prepared to pay silly money. I really don't see us getting into that so I think we can forget about him coming back for now...

If Richard Steadman, the world renown kee surgeon can't help him I'm not sure even the golden touch of NA will work

Would be a massive gamble so maybe not right for Saints but this is the PL and could pay off big time if he did stay fit. NA is probably the best manager to make this call.

31yr isn't a major problem, he'd be a free transfer and maybe we could do a pay as you play contract. I'm sure the whole reason he didnt get many games with ManC was not because of his injuries

Why would we want the second most reviled player in the P(ensioners?)L? Anyway, he's way over the hill and ready for a McCarthy & Stone home

I don't know who is more mental - the person who thinks we could sign Frank Lampard, or the person who thinks we shouldn't even if we could. ****ing hell this summer is going to be painful...
