Thank you Markus, the Liebherrs and Nicola Cortese. You have delivered and Saints fans across the World will never forget what you have done. Everything else is a bonus now. We have the infrastructure to support a PL club with moderate investment, and can build a sustainable PL future. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

As above...100%.......:)

THANK YOU:D........

We were so so lucky.

Whilst luck played a part, our decent infrastructure made it a much better investment opportunity than most other 'available' clubs at the time.

As such, in those dark months of administration I always believed we would get 'lucky'.

According to the ancient Chinese proverb, a journey of a thousand miles begins with but a single step.

The single step that began our journey was when Markus Liebherr and his friend Nicola Cortese bought the club.

Although the destination has been reached, the journey continues while we build on the success that has been achieved on the foundations laid by them.

I doubt whether there was a single Saints fan in that Stadium or elsewhere yesterday who didn't spare a thought for our saviour and the part that his involvement played in our salvation. I'm sure that everybody wished that he could have been there to witness the greatest moment in the club's recent history. He will never be forgotten by any of us.

Thank you Markus from the bottom of my heart, just wished you were there yesterday to witness the scenes, a true Saint gone but never forgotten.
Agreed. Such a shame that he couldn't be there to witness the scenes yesterday and enjoy seeing his dream realised. Thanks should also go to Alan Pardew who laid the foundations of the transformation of the club and brought in some quality players. To Adam Lallana for staying with the club and to Kelvin Davies who too could have jumped ship when West Ham came knocking and has been a rock.To Sam Alladyce without whom West Ham would surely have gone up automatically. And to everyone at Southampton Football Club who have worked so hard to achieve this memorable back to back promotions and who have brought a smile back to the faces of the fans who had had to endure such tough times a few years back.Lastly a thought for the wrist slitters on here, I am so glad you were all wrong!!!

There are plenty of people with wealth - lots of wealth in some cases. But it takes a very special person indeed to invest in a friends dream and yet that's what Markus did. His legacy will live on at Saints for decades to come. So THANK YOU Markus and Nicola for saving our club, for setting a course and having a vision. Thank you to Markus' family for continuing to support the dream and to Nigel, his players and backroom staff for providing us with a club to be proud of.

I would LOVE to see a statue of Markus outside SMS - it would be truly fitting for Markus to be seen next to Ted.

Lastly, I think this weekend underpins the vision and plans NC has for the club. We are ahead of schedule on a journey that will place this club at the forefront of English and potentially World football. How can anyone think otherwise given what we've achieved in just THREE YEARS! It is nothing short of miraculous and we've not even seen the products of the new Development Academy come to fruition yet. There are many years ahead of stunning achievement for us I feel sure!

Markus Liebherr thankyou so so much for buying this wonderful football Club. I hope you were looking down yesteday enjoying the day as much as the fans at the game and many thousands more around our city. You and Nicola have restored this city to its Premier status and that is where it belongs and we are extremely gratefull for that. You have made dreams come true and you have put thousands and thousands of smiles on thousands and thousands of faces. God bless you, God bless your family and God bless Nicola.

Like a phoenix out of the ashes of administration, near extinction, then relegation to League One, the club has retaken its place at the top table with the elite. On this day of celebration, we pause to give thanks to one man who had a dream to achieve this eventuality. As long as a ball is kicked in anger by the red and whites of Southampton FC we will owe you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. Raise your glasses to "One Markus Liebherr" theres only "one Markus Liebherr"

Someone wanting a statue should start a petition on a petition site. I'm sure if enough fans wanted one it would give Nicola and the family a good excuse to have one.

don't think the family would like this as one of the reasons given for the Markus flag not being used was them not wanting to see his image all the time.

pity imo as he deserves it but maybe naming one the newly extended stands after him will have to do ;)

What can you say? There's so much gratitude that I want to convey, but a simple "thank you" seems the way Markus would've best liked to receive it. Such a shame that we didn't get to see his infectious grin yesterday.

I do wonder if the best option would be to name the new training complex after him once it is completed?

Not sure he would have like a statue or the stadium named after him as that possibly a bit to brash for the way he was but the way the academy is run sums up to me what drew him to the club and to have his name associated with that would be, to me, the best lasting tribute to him.

The man holds a special place of his own in the history of our modest club.

Statues, Stadium/Stand/Training Grounds named in his honour, Messages of thanks, nothing bar nothing will ever truly convey the gratitude I feel for Markus.

Made me teary eyed hearing his name being chanted yesterday, not often a late billionaire I never met will have that affect on me.

I just wish he was there, scarf on and armed with his camera and toothy grin. He would have loved it as much as any of us.

A true Saint, with a place in every Saints Fans heart.

Never forgotten Markus, thanks for everything.

We wish you were here, this is all for you big guy!

I think its ironic that the team we played to secure the points that got us promoted was the very club that SISU bought after moving their attentions away from us. I admit to being one of those that thought anything was preferable to RL. RIP Markus, your vision has been realized. Thank you.

Thank you Markus, a shame you didn't get to see this great day, and era of the club.

And as with no doubt many others, we have friends and family who are not around to enjoy our celebrations.

So to all my friends and family who have passed away over the last few years, and have not been down here to enjoy the momment, buy Markus a few drinks for me in the pub above.

I hope friends and family of St Markus felt the happiness and joy of Saturday....through the fans and for themselves.

I'm hoping that knowing that what he had dreamed and planned for with Nicola Cortese had come to fruition would give them the same warm feeling that every Saints fan feels for St Markus...would have been nice to see his image on the big screens during the celebrations but hearing his name so many times during and after the game (plus so many times over the last couple of seasons) conveyed the affection in which he will always be held in Southampton.

Thanks Markus, thanks the Liebherr family - and thanks Nic Cortese for delivering your friend's dream.

It'd be nice if we organised a tribute to Markus on the opening day of the Premier League season - nothing over the top, just all stand as one and applaud during a specified minute of the match or something? Was going to try and get this arranged for the Coventry match if we'd secured promotion by then, but wasn't to be!

Cheers big fella, I don't think you could ever have comprehended quite how much joy you were to bring to so many

Marcus will never be forgotten!

Many many many thanks for what he and his family have done for this club

Never forgotten is right, I know it has been suggested on this site before, and sorry I cannot remember who the poster was, their suggestion being that a stand be named after Marcus, has any more come of that great idea? If not perhaps it should be suggested to the club, if already covered I apologise.
