doddisalegend Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 Interview with Nigel on the beeb http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17859433 I know we joke about saints record on TV but this article has the stats and it really is quite bad. Saints' record on TV does not make pleasant reading for their supporters. The club have won 66% of their league matches that have not been on television this season, but just 20% of those that were. The Saints' dismal record in televised league games since their relegation from the Premier League in 2005 is played 47, won 11, drawn 12 and lost 24.
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 We used to always do quite well on the TV until we went down.
Manuel Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 True, but I feel that tommorrow is an opportunity to put that straight. I'm confident we'll win comfortably, and the hoodoo will be behind us.
Raging Bull Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 I'm sorry but this myth was put to bed when we slapped Leeds on the opening day, that was an early kick off too.
Scummer Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 I'm not so sure that it's being on the TV that's the problem, it's more the unusual kickoff times. Our record in Saturday 3pm and Tuesday 7.45pm matches is dramatically better than games played at other times. Hence our big drop in form through the Winter when we didn't have a 3pm Saturday game for something like 4 months.
Bearsy Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 Our tv results ain't so good is cos they televise the more difficult games! No-one wants to watch us tonk Doncaster at home.
doddisalegend Posted 27 April, 2012 Author Posted 27 April, 2012 (edited) I'm sorry but this myth was put to bed when we slapped Leeds on the opening day, that was an early kick off too. It's hardly a myth it's in black and white on the bbc played 47, won 11, drawn 12 and lost 24 I think Scummer and Bearsy have probably given some credible reasons for our frenquent no shows on telly decent oppostion and strange kick off times. jjsaint Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 (edited) We have been dire for 3 or 4 years out of the 7 we've been out of the Prem. So yes, we've lost quite a few televised matches. Also, the matches that are chosen for broadcast will be tougher than the average match. Therefore of our recent matches Blackpool, Reading and Mboro were televised whereas Palace and Posh were not. Cov wouldn't be televised in a thousand years except for the circumstances surrounding it. The only difference I can see is that Cov may try a little harder so they don't look like tw*ts on the BBC. We've also had the odd fantastic victory televised: thinking of Leeds home and away here. When the team walk out to a packed St Mary's and a sea of red and white, they will forget about the TV cameras. And so should we. Edited 27 April, 2012 by jjsaint I can't spell
opthomps Posted 27 April, 2012 Posted 27 April, 2012 Yes they were difficult games on the TV, but you would still expect a team in the top two all season to win more than we have. A defeat against Coventry and I think we will need to employ a white witch to rid the demons. We can't have that going into the televised playoffs.
