Hull - no favours?

There's an article on the West Ham board about Andy Thorne being quoted as saying even though Coventry have nothing to play for they will do their best to thwart Saint's promotion hopes "to get some pride back" and "end the season with a bit of dignity".

I did a search on Nick Barmby and Hull and all the quotes were about building the team for next year. He doesn't seem interested in this game whatsoever.

I know it's all just quotes and doesn't change anything on the pitch, but aren't we meant to go into meltdown over this sort of thing?

I predict West Ham will give them a tonking FWIW.

Teams don't do 'favours' ffs, Coventry and Hull will want to win, maybe they wont try quite as hard as mid season, but they will want to win. Professional sportsmen don't like losing FACT.

Quite simply if we can't beat Coventry at their best we don't deserve to go up automatically.

I went on Cov's on OS and watched Thornes interview on their Player. Was saying they want to put some pride back in the shirt etc etc, however for me he's just doing the motions. He doesnt seem like a motivator for me. Get an early goal and we'll gallup to victory.

Robbie Savage hit the nail on the head the other night when he said, if you are in the last few games of the season with nothing to play for, as a player you are not going to pile into a 50/50 challenge or any challenge where you might get injured because an injury at this time of the season means you can kiss goodbye to your holiday, as you will be spending the next few weeks on the treatment table being repaired ready for next season.

We just have to go out and do what we have been doing so well for the vast majority of the season.

Andy Thorn's comments make him look stupid. He's getting all precious because certain factions are suggesting Coventry are only there to make up the numbers tomorrow and will roll over. Thorn has got himself all fired up over this and promises that his Coventry side will give everything. Well, presumably they gave everything in all their previous away matches, didn't do them much good - or perhaps he is suggesting they could have given more in past matches but, because they are in the spotlight tomorrow and can influence a massively important game, will make sure they play to full capacity? Seems to me it's a bit late to be saying Coventry will give no quarter - what happened in all your other games Mr Thorn? You can't have it both ways - either you always give everything and you are just not very good or there were matches (a lot of them) where you failed to get everything out of your side. Which is it?

He's hardly going to turn round and say 'we don't give a toss about tomorrow and are looking forward to our holidays' is he.

I saw his comments on Cov's player on their OS. He was just saying what any manager would say in that situation. For me it was all in his body language. Down, out and not looking confident. He looks more like a builder than a manager.
