Spot yourself in here. Looking at this pic reminds me how I felt at the time. Just couldn't get my head round the idea of not being in the top division. I cant go this weeknd due to family commitments, but come on Saints, reverse this !!!

Is the fella with the long hair at the bottom the postie who used to always go on the travel club to away games?

Funny you say that coz I'm sure he was the postie when I lived in Winchester between 1989 and 1991.

Yep. George the Postie from Winch. Quite a 'character'.

I remember back in the day when I was too young to drive so I'd go to away games on the travel club, he'd always pitch up at the Winnall roundabout carrying his postbag and still wearing his Royal Mail jacket

Jeez,do those punters look depressed, they should take some sick leave and hang about in the pub.

Mind you a bit of a slimming cure would probably help most of them. Why are the majority of football supporters so f*cking lardy arsed ?

It's weird as one of those who grew up not really knowing saints outside of the top flight I thought that day was the worse thing that could happen ......one thing that being relegated taught me was there was football life outside the PL (bearing in mind I was one of those mindless fans that was brainwashed by the PL PR)

Can we have the same pic from the same seat at a similar angle on Saturday at about 2:20pm please ? I'm half interested in seeing if people are in the same seats and (hopefully) then we'll have a contrasting image. And yes, I'm aware he said he can't go... someone else could do it.

Funny though isn't it? Felt utter shyte that day but would you swap the last seven years?? I wouldn't.

I've been to places and met people I would never have done.

I've been able to go to games with friends at clubs I'd never have visited.

I've felt elation (promotion) on a scale we could never have felt before. And hopefully will see a promotion to the top league for the first time in my football following lifetime.

I really believe that everything happens for a reason - or at least that fate will always deal you a hand and it's how you play it that counts...

Wouldn't that be full of Dads and 5 year olds nowadays?

I'm sure some of the people in that pic are probably still in the same seats. Maybe Turkish could use it to start profiling people's usernames and they could all meet up.

I DON'T believe everything happens for a reason (any more, I used to) but you make a good point about how interesting the journey has been.

A day I remember well.

Took my mum to London for her birthday; was listening on a radio during afternoon tea at The Dorchester. Great service - all the waiters were wanting updates on the scores.

Was sipping a champagne cocktail in the Ritz when we went down.

Bitter, bitter taste!

A memory that reminds me just how lucky we are now.

2005 brings back memories for the bad times, and one of those periods in life that I thought I had a chance to make it as a goal keeper in the lower leagues as a starting point in a future career. But at least we can now look towards a good future, while seeing the club back where it belongs.

Jim 'Bullseye' Bowen, right side 2nd back.

I grabbed this pic earlier to say exactly the same thing. I'm sure the bloke in question has heard it all before but hey - I bet he's got a few drinks out of it in the past...

After reviewing that picture, I've come to the conclusion that the reason we were relegated that day was purely down to the lack of face paints, fancy dress costumes and wigs.

If the players came out to be greeted by a bunch of zany fans all dressed up and "having a laugh", I'm sure it would've spurred them on to victory.

I was also one of those young enough not to know Saints outside the top flight. Because of that I knew nothing of the lower leagues....I wouldn't swap these 7 hard years for 7 in the premier league. I've had a brilliant time, despite the crap moments.

Me too - started supporting properly in 81/82 at the height of our success - pretty much everything after that was downhill bar the WGS years.

I always used to say that being a Saints fan gave you everything. Only a fan who has tasted the bitterness of failure can understand the sweet smell of success.

When we lost the FA Cup and to a man we stood and applauded our lads collecting their runners' up medals while Arsenal fans drifted away discontent that their only success came in a trophy they didn't appreciate - I knew then that it was better to be Saints fan.

As the old song goes "where were you when we were crap"?! :)

Its called stoicism - the realisation that you have got just what you deserved which we had in 2005

I am sure he was the Winnie postie even earlier than that. I left there in 87 and recognised him immediately. And i didn't do the away day coaches.

Amazing how one guy can leave a lasting memory. Good to see the hairstyle made it through twenty odd years.

As many others have said, that awfull day has given us several unforgettable seasons.

Kids are now growing up not knowing the agony we had to go through year after year. Bloody glory hunters!

If that's the Northam I'm in there somewhere.

Man, that was a bad day made all the worse by Roy Keane giving it large after the game. What a prize tosser he was.

The good side of it though was learning that there is life outside the prem, got more perspective on that plastic league now.
