Gemmel Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 Not trying to rake over old ground, but it's intresting to see how far pompey fans have come with their plan "B" and I wondered just exactly how far we got with our effort? I remember that there was a group of posters that had identified potential leagues we could join and (If my memory serves me correctly) met with the local council, arranged something with Football supporters trust (Or equivilent), but I can't ever remember ever being asked to commit to cash, or ever thinking it was a real option (And that is certainly not a dig and those people who gave up their time and effort). I should add that the pompey plan does not stand a chance of working, but credit to the few who have taken it further than I have have seen any other club take it. Turkish Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 FC Saints of Southampton is all set to go. We are going to play at Tottons ground and will start off in the Hampshire League when we all get p*ssed off with prices, Sky and get sold to some American goons. Saint_Jonny Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 I don't think our situation was ever as dire has Pompeys. Someone was eventually going to save Saints as they had everything (apart from the team) in place to build something strong with a relatively modest initial outlay. Pompey on the other hand are utterly ****ed, as we all know. So it is fair enough that the skates have gotten further sorting something out, because they know their situation is so bad. The9 Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 Our situation was every bit as dire as Portsmouth's in terms of the prospect of liquidation... other than Saints being a viable going concern with no debts, a training ground, land assets, a modern and successful academy, a nice stadium, no overblown contracts needing to be honoured, and Saints not having exhausted the goodwill of every local business, charity, the police and the taxman en route. Nevertheless we still could have gone pop, it was a global recession and it was all about timing. Luckily we found a buyer of integrity with fcvkloads of cash. Most teams don't set up successors until they cease to exist, btw. It's only basket cases (Skates, Chester) or on moral grounds (AFC Wimbledon, FCUM) where they do it before the other club disappears. If Saints hadn't found a buyer, then the support for the new club would have been there, even though at the time we'd all tired of chucking good money in after bad just for player wages to dig a bigger hole. A new club would be a new start, the goodwill comes back fairly soon for most.
