Saintandy666 Posted 24 April, 2012 Share Posted 24 April, 2012 Well, surely that's Hunt gone if the Mail are getting in on the act? He seems to have been caught red handed. Somewhere, Vince Cable is very happy.
Kingsland Codger Posted 24 April, 2012 Share Posted 24 April, 2012 Is that the same Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary, that confused poor James Naughtie so amusingly on Radio 4's Today Programme earlier this year?
Fowllyd Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 Is that the same Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary, that confused poor James Naughtie so amusingly on Radio 4's Today Programme earlier this year? It most certainly was. Naughite had the very valid defence that it was a horribly easy misspeak to make - indeed, you could argue that giving the job of culture secretary to someone called Hunt was always asking for trouble. Yesterday's revelations suggest that Naughtie, had he chosen to, could just as easily have claimed that what he said was simply fair comment... The citing of a Daily Mail article when it suits one's point of view whilst slagging it off when it doesn't. Murdoch Senior is up before the Inquiry today. They reckon he's going to shaft a few politicians past and present.

This is why he should be sacked, or at least given another portfolio that doesn't begin with a 'C. This is the reason why he'll never be Chancellor. Q. What could be worse than saying that word live on air? A. Saying it twice...

I think that Hulture Secretary Jeremy C*** is about to learn a similar lesson. Whether it will cost him his post will be interesting. The Murdoch's must have a data centre full of incriminating interactions like this - with politicians of all colours. What they do with this over the coming years will also be interesting. Saintandy666 Posted 25 April, 2012 Author Share Posted 25 April, 2012 I wasn't citing the Mail out of support for my views! Just stating that it is influential on the psyche of the nation, and if they are on Hunt's back, surely his time is nearly over.
pap Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 Personally, I believe that NewsCorp and the Conservatives have conspired from the start to allow the BSkyB takeover. The two parties ( see posted timeline ) have been in suspiciously close orbit since 2006, and other factors, such as Cameron's employment of Coulson and closeness to Brooks also look extremely dodgy in hindsight. As I keep saying, it's a bandit government out to get as much as it can before it is tried and prosecuted at the next election.

Unless the inquiry specifically asked for these email in the Murdoch evidence it does have the appearance that cHunt is being used as an example for other politicians who have something to hide (i.e. most of them) where Murdoch knows what it is (a fair number of them). As to collusion its possibly too obvious. News international wanted the BBC weakened, Ofcom weakened and to be able to take over the remainder of BSB. The first two have happened and the third would have done if not for the hacking millie dowler's phone story.
The Cat Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 Hunt's advisor resigns. Poor bloke, it's always them that get shunted out first. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17835770 PMQ's is gonna be great later. The first two have happened and the third would have done if not for the hacking millie dowler's phone story. Just watched some of his statement to the house. Interestingly, Chris Bryant (I think it was him) asked the PM (whilst Hunt was giving his statement) if he wanted to come clean about any more meetings he'd had with "that woman, Rebekah Brooks". If not he suggested that things might get difficult for the the PM later today. Not sure if it was a statement in abstract or if he was suggesting that some specific dirt would come out of Leveson today. It was an odd thing to say, to the PM, during Hunt's statement if he didn't know something was about to break.
pedg Posted 25 April, 2012 Share Posted 25 April, 2012 Classically Hunt managed to further bury himself under friendly fire from another Tory MP. Peter Bone, a Conservative, asks Hunt to deny the claim that he leaked statements that were going to be made to parliament to News Corp in advance. Hunt says this is an allegation that has been made. It will have to be investigated by the Leveson inquiry, he says. If he didn't leak it there should be no reason not to deny it.

Saintandy666 Posted 25 April, 2012 Author Share Posted 25 April, 2012 TBF he usually does anyway at PMQs True that. But there's sometimes at least one good thing for him to light up to. Something the Liberals have done or what not, a question asked by one of their backbenchers. I wonder if Jeremy Hunt would still be in his job if he were a Lib Dem.
