saint_sinner Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 5 years ago today I loved watching Saints in the 90's under Bally! Great player, world cup winner and all round nice bloke taken away far too early Rip Bally
Thedelldays Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 one of the best season at The Dell MLT in full flow...Ronnie Ekelund too....great times
Crazy Diamond Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Used my lunchtime at college to go down to Winchester cathedral and pay my respects. RIP Bally.

saint_sinner Posted 24 April, 2012 Author Posted 24 April, 2012 Should have a minutes applause for Bally on Saturday!
70's Mike Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 played in the last promotion side into the top flight i believe
Wade Garrett Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Closest I've come to tears at a game was the tribute to Bally against Southend.
Golden Balls Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 RIP. Top bloke, can't believe it's been 5 years already. Will never forget going 0-1 down to Southend in the game we needed to win, then the crowd singing "Win it for Bally" - The players really stepped it up! My proudest moment to date was playing football with him and MLT in 2004. He still had it then!
St Chalet Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Closest I've come to tears at a game was the tribute to Bally against Southend. Genuinely choked up then, St Mary's packed out with Flat Caps. One of the few to be respected both sides of the M27, attended a Pompey *cough* training session at Moneyfields when he was manager there. He did the first team and then took a Q&A with us kids. A really lovely man, great loss to football and the world.
saint lard Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 He was my hero as a nipper, even, dare I say it when he wore an Arsenal shirt.
Sparky_Mark Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 emotional day for more than one reason, just hope Bally is looking over us for a bit of luck on Saturday! Keep pulling the strings for the team up there, RIP
dubai_phil Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 We overtook him on the M27 when we were heading up to Wembley for the ZDS, in a minibus fully decked out with scarves, and he was driving East. He gave us a huge grin, thumbs up and clenched fist salute. Cannot believe it's been 5 years, my what a lot has happened in that time. Hope you get a good seat along with all the other Saints legends upstairs next to Marcus on Saturday
Colinjb Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Doesn't feel like 5 years. RIP Alan. Missed as always.
sussexsaint Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Closest I've come to tears at a game was the tribute to Bally against Southend. Me too bud
corsacar saint Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Top man, best one touch player that I have ever seen. RIP Alan.
Crazy Diamond Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 Alan's son is on Twitter, drop him a mention, I'm sure he'd be grateful. http://twitter.com/jimmyball8
Saint Without a Halo Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 (edited) Bally a legend as a saints player and saints manager it was my privalege to see both What I wouldn't give to have him in the side on Saturday in the manner he was in our last promotion team, he would certainly ensure all around him performed to their peak and always led by example! The added value of his passion, feeling and man managment in the team cannot be under estimated! gone but not forgotten! Edited 25 April, 2012 by Saint Without a Halo
Dimond Geezer Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 Has it been that long. As above, gone but not forgotten.
Ian the Red Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 Was my hero as a nipper, had to have his white Addidas boots that he wore when he was at Everton...... Great moment when he signed for us. A true legend, a gentlemen and top bloke that loved south coast football. RIP
