dubai_phil Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Aren't you lot supposed to be having a drought?
graveworm Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 There may be snow in the Arctic, will this help ???????????
Window Cleaner Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Saturday will not be postponed no, it comes between Friday and Sunday come what may.
Window Cleaner Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Aren't you lot supposed to be having a drought? No drought, just that they use more water per person than any other European nation, always washing the car and watering the lawn.
Jack Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Yea we're officially in drought but this has been the coldest and wettest April I can remember. At least we can wash our cars in puddles and overflowing rivers as the hosepipe is out of the question.
alpine_saint Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 ...but is it one off ALL off? Very good question.
Turkish Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 it would be hilarious if it was. All the lemons on here that are close to nervous breakdowns already having to wait a few extra days.
Whitey Grandad Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Aren't you lot supposed to be having a drought? Hosepipe ban, innit?
John D Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 No drought, just that they use more water per person than any other European nation, always washing the car and watering the lawn. And cleaning windows
John Boy Saint Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Saturday will not be postponed no, it comes between Friday and Sunday come what may. Certainly glad that's been settled!! Bit mightily piddled off if Saturday was postponed at less than a weeks notice, I work all week just for that moment at 6:30am when I come to look at the clock and go "ah another 2 hours at leastzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"!
krissyboy31 Posted 24 April, 2012 Posted 24 April, 2012 Saturday will not be postponed no, it comes between Friday and Sunday come what may.Didn't they cancel Saturday in Vanuatu at the start of the year?
bpsaint Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 If it carries on like this between now and then I'll have my doubts, hopefully there's covers down on the pitch.
modern matron Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 Fair p[oint! One thing is for sure the pitch/weather certainly helps Cove more than us, hopefully not enouigh to matter....
Window Cleaner Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 Didn't they cancel Saturday in Vanuatu at the start of the year? They did cancel a day in those parts yes but which one it was I couldn't say. Then there's the story that I heard at a conference once that somewhere in the Bible there's a day that the Sun stood still and some NASA expert had run all that through some giant computer and did find evidence that the Sun stopped moving for about 23hrs at some time in ancient history. Can't remember the rest though, bloke who told me it was a bit hammered at the time as well.
trousers Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 Just watched the BBC national weather forecast....a massive storm being forecast for Saturday...
Saint137 Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 I'm starting to wonder - the only time a match has been postponed at SMS was for waterlogging (Crystal Palace a few years back). Flooding on Third Avenue this afternoon, ground is completely saturated already (New Forest has huge amounts of standing water, garden is flooded at parents' house in Sholing. Not sure whether it would be an advantage or not, obviously we'd know the Wham result and therefore exactly what we needed to do.
scotty Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 Yea we're officially in drought but this has been the coldest and wettest April I can remember. At least we can wash our cars in puddles and overflowing rivers as the hosepipe is out of the question. Not if you're in Southampton. Southern Water have a hosepipe ban in place but it doesn't affect this area although they make it very difficult to establish that point on their website. Like the metering; they dont bother to mention that OFWAT say you are entitled to refuse to be billed by volume even though they have the right to install a meter. They just say thats how they are going to bill you, and once you have accepted (ie not objected to) it you cannot then revert to the rated billing.
Thedelldays Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 The weather is fairly dry at the mo here in Plymouth. Bit of rain then stops again. Nothing major Soton usually gets the weather a day after here. So here is hoping
John Boy Saint Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 The Palace game was postponed due to a day of very heavy rain on sodden ground, coupled to a high spring tide which stopped the drains emptying fast enough. Saturday low tide is at 08:32 high tide is at 15:30 and it's heading towards neap tides, so the drains will have had a good chance to shed their excess before kick off, so if it does piddle down the water will have somewhere to go. We haven't had serious rain for weeks so the ground is relatively hard, any extremes of rain will just run to the lowest point making big puddles making things look worse than they are. For Saturdays game to be off with TV and all the final game factors, the Queen Mary will have to be moored in Britannia Road!!
Saint_lambden Posted 25 April, 2012 Posted 25 April, 2012 In all seriousness, Saturday day time looks okay for Southampton, with further rain likely in the evening. Tomorrow's (Thursday) is meant to be the worst day for rain.
tony13579 Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 Not if you're in Southampton. They just say thats how they are going to bill you, and once you have accepted (ie not objected to) it you cannot then revert to the rated billing. I'm not sure if it applies to the imposed meters , but when I took a meter by choice I had a 1 yr cooling off period. My house was rated council tax band f and I made huge savings on the water.
Stattmeister Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 There's an "open the floodgates" gag here somewhere...
SW11_Saint Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 Rain in London yesterday was 'biblical'. Raining again today. Not sure hat it's like in Soton, but if it's similar it could become an issue. Let's hope not!
St Chalet Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 Will need to bring Wellingtons for the pitch invasion
trousers Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 Will need to bring Wellingtons for the pitch invasion Or a large mammal
keithd Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 Fair p[oint! One thing is for sure the pitch/weather certainly helps Cove more than us, hopefully not enouigh to matter.... How in Gods name is this the case? Is this a conspiracy theory in the making...?
jawillwill Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 I get wet just thinking about how exciting Saturday will be.
John Boy Saint Posted 26 April, 2012 Posted 26 April, 2012 How in Gods name is this the case? Is this a conspiracy theory in the making...? Have you not seen that You Tube video of BFS in his back garden wearing just his underpants doing a rain dance standing on a large map of the St Mary's area of Southampton?
