S-Clarke Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 You have to win final day for promotion. You are at home. Choose your opposition. Would anyone pick a team besides Coventry? Donnie have players like Diouf capable of having a great game. Pompey would fight too much. Leaving one relegated side who admitted they were exhausted, have a small squad and no form whatsoever with little goal threat. PANIC! They do have Clive Platt though to be fair. saintant Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 (edited) So Hull will turn into Marks and Spencer Ladies second X1 as they have nothing to play for. Conversely, Coventry also with nothing to play for and the proud owners of one of the worst away records in the football league will arrive at St Marys, take to the field in front of a full house and defy belief by suddenly morphing into Barcelona - no, actually they'll even eclipse the standards set by Barcelona. They will weave intricate patterns all over a pitch where Southampton have a brilliant record but the Saints won't be able to get near these ball playing geniuses. At half time Coventry will lead five nil having missed three penalties. The only time Southampton will get out of their own half is when taking kick-offs. The Coventry players will be snapped up by Barcelona which is a pity cos that means they're back to square one next season with a ****e squad - maybe they should roll over so that all their quality players are not in the shop window. You know it makes sense. Not much point us even getting changed on Saturday! Edited 23 April, 2012 by saintant

Not quite. We have scored 2 more. If they win 3-0 and we draw 1-1 both teams would have identical goals scored and goal differences. We'd go up by head to head. If we draw they have to win by 3 and also score 3 more than us.
Frank's cousin Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Going to bed - did not watch as working from home - important deadline tomorrow - will say only this. Those of a nervous disposition are crying out for the squad to show composure, patience and perform to our best abilities - they do that, they win comfortably. Every last man, women and child, in costume, jesterhats, cardigans, or chav gear need to do the same on Saturday - composure and roar the side on, no sign of nerves, no hush silence just pure unadulterated SUPPORT and we will win. NOW is the time to do what we expect of our players. The job of us intenet exiles is to type away furiously to pass the time and gain modicum of pleasure from staring at the norks of the lusty lucky nuns - remain in good humour, go mental when we score, go mental if we concede but above all never lose the faith - we will win. Jimmy_D Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 So one point will be enough as long as West Ham don't do better than 3-0. Depends on whether we have a score draw or not. 3-0 might be enough for them due to goals scored.
Dig Dig Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 To all the people thinking Coventry are all of a sudden going to turn into Barcelona...on the flip side, Hull also have nothing to play for at West Ham, what's stopping them having a go at West Ham and getting a result? Things like that don't happen to other teams mate. Hull will turn up to west ham and start kicking the ball in the back of their own net meaning West Ham will win 50-0 Meanwhile, down at St Mary's, Coventry will remember that they are actually a brilliant side, tight at the back with a free flowing attack. That 16 year old they might have to play at CB will be a revelation and will force his way into the England Euro squad based on this 1 appearance. Saints won't be able to cope and will be swept of the pitch and into the misery of the play-off's

saintant Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Shock news just in....Chelsea players study videos of Coventry City ahead of tomorrow's vital Champions League tie. Di Matteo claims they are the nearest side to Barcelona in the world and is now confident he's figured a way to stop Messi and co. Meanwhile Nigel Adkins has his players studying videos of Barcelona as he knows that type of football is what his side can expect to face on Saturday. It's a funny old game. Micky Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 The only team that is going to beat Saints on Saturday is Saints. If the team that got us into this position turn up and play as we can do, then the deal is done. Nerves will come into it because of the magnitude of the game obviously. But beat the nerves and we will beat Coventry. BTW the fans have a massive part to play on Saturday especially if things do start to go wrong - can't underestimate the fans part in this. As Nigel says - togeather as one - that includes the fans.
Halo Stickman Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 I suspect the Saints’ players are quietly pleased they didn’t gain promotion tonight; they can now spend the rest of the week relishing this opportunity to earn permanent hero status in the eyes of Saints fans worldwide, dreaming of how St Mary’s will erupt when they score and counting down the hours before they turn those opportunities and dreams into reality. COYS. Roll on Saturday!

saintsmike25 Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Brum, Blackpool, Cardiff. Take a goosie at our regular season results against them and tell me if you think we will get past 2 of those 3 ? And with our players feeling sorry for themselves ? If we don't go up will you still support Saints next season? It's just, according to you. Saints apparently can't be anyone, Boro, Coventry, anyone in the playoffs. We're second in the league over a season yet you in particular Alpine seem to think Southampton will lose every game. As nervous as I am about the final day, I have confidence we can get the result. I also have confidence that on our day we could beat any team in the league. But football also has an element of luck which people seem to forget about. The Portsmouth goals were two world class strikes, the Boro game should have had a red card. Why do you think players and managers alike mention luck? Because sometimes it runs for you, sometimes it doesn't, for instance against Leeds when we got battered and pumelled in possibly one of the worst performances I have seen from us this season we won 1-0, how we won? I do not know, but this result on another day could have been 5-1 Leeds, had their strikers had their shooting boots on, and had Kelvin Davies not put a heroic effort. After that game, I remember you praising the team, being so proud etc. After the Portsmouth game where we did have more than enough chances to win and lost by two fantastic goals, you bemoaned the team you questioned Adkins integrity. I understand football brings emotions, but in terms of performance your comments don't warrant the abuse you give the team, words such as spineless, gutless, useless are thrown around as if we were some relegated side like Wolves. What we must do as fans is forget the other games, forget the what if's and the but's, what has happened HAS happened, we have to be that twelfth man on Saturday and be real fans. Be behind the team 100% because this Southampton side need our support to get that win. I believe in the side, I believe we have some fantastic players, we play some excellent football and we deserve to be where we are in the table. There is no use looking back at past results thinking that cost us, if the team don't win, then we GO again, we get behind the team in the playoffs. If we don't go up through the playoffs, through automatic promotion. Despite the anger the frustration the sheer fact we blew it. WE MOVE ON and focus on supporting the team! Alpine, if you can put your negative energy that seems plague this place like a dementor into something positive, me and many other fans would be most appreciative. Just for one week can you get behind the team? COYR!
Ziggy Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 I thought Leicester were very very poor. That is the under statement of the season. I worked there for nine years and my eldest was born there. Of course I would have preferred Leicester to get something from the game, but didn't expect that they would. That "miss" from Nolan at the end could prove to be very costly for the Hammers. Only +1 on the GD is a good result.
Badger Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Why do we think Coventry will come out fighting while Hull will just roll over? Cov may not come out fighting, but after ten minutes of sideways-pass it across the midfield and back to the full back from us, they may realise there is little to fear and go for it. Cov are crap, but we may allow them to grow in stature and get into the game too much ( misplaced crossfield passes immediately spring to mind). Hope I'm wrong of course. The Portsmouth goals were two world class strikes, the Boro game should have had a red card. COYR! Luck - the pompey game you might be right, re the saves by their keeper. Of the two strikes however,as good as they were, both could have been prevented, the first a crossfield pass that strayed, they broke and scored ( Maguire left alone for a free strike) the second, we had no one challenging when the ball dropped for Norris. At 'boro, the ref ballsed up no doubt, but again their first goal, the bloke was unchallenged to hit it - no midfield to contest it as it came back from defence. For all the blame heaped on the ref, did we actually test their GK in the second half ? Very often we are authors of our own misfortune, no point blaming refs. Graffito Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Just seen the goals. Some poor defending by both sides. Leicester could have had a penalty at the very end. Although the Leicester forward headed the ball straight at Green he was kicked in the back of the head by a Kung Fu kick by one of the West Ham defenders. Normal head height too. cambsaint Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Coventry certainly offered very little at home in both league and cup. Really can't see anything other than a home win. shurlock Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Watched the game with some Leicester fans- shame the injuries ripped apart their central midfield, making it a doddle for West Ham. I'm convinced it's not true, but at times it seemed like Konchesky was waiting to get robbed in possession to give WHam more chances... But the best moment of the game was Schmeichel saving that late chance. Won't make a difference come Saturday as we'll take care of business ourselves, but it gives a nice safety net in case West Ham are only 1-0 up against Hull late in the game... That's a big plus from this game, the fact that the GD remains pretty much untouched. It's a slim advantage but it's still a decent advantage and WHU need to do alot more than us to win their game. We can win 1-0 and job done. Hull have one of the best defensive records in the league, so I can't see this being a drumming. As long as we don't lose I think we'll be ok, but to be honest if we don't win this one it will be a criminal offence.

Konchesky was grinning away with Nolan and having a fair bit of banter with him when marking him for a corner. Great effort from Nugent as well. To be fair, I don’t think there is anything dodgy in it, just a poor, unprofessional performance from a few key Leicester players, they may as well have played in their golf kit they were that much on holiday.
