Promotion - how...

We will be promoted on Saturday, do not expect Leicester to do anything tonight - it will just lead to mass disappointment by 10pm tonight.

The fact is that even if they win, we're 2 pts clear, with a better GD, and at home to a depleted and relegated Coventry city on the last day.

Don't panic if WHU win tonight is all I'm trying to say.

depleted and relegated Coventry city.

They will want to give a good account of themselves as a farewell to the league. They have nothing to lose, as they have already lost. It could be a tough game. So, I am hoping we go up tonight. Then, if we lose to Coventry we'll still be up albeit a rather pathetic promotion :)

It won't be easy, as with all game in this league, but we really couldn't be asking for a better game. They've lost their captain and player of the season (he was sent off on saturday). Their midfielder, Sammy Clingan, is out injured for the season and Alex Nimley on loan from City is also injured.

You couldn't ask for a better game, seriously. The gods must be looking after us!

Whilst you are of course right, I remember how we played Cardiff away this season at the best possible time, when they had over half the team out .....

Cardiff away slightly different proposition than to Coventry at home don't you think?

no it won't...ffs, of ALL the teams we could wish for to come to SMS for a must win...coventry is that team

I totally agree that they are the best option to have at home on the final day but nerves & emotions can often effect a teams performance on the pitch.

If we don't score first half then I bet you we get edgy and Coventry will sense a chance to upset the odds.

True, but if Reading home and Coventry home had been swapped then we might already be promoted with Saturday's game for the title.

Yes, maybe so. But Brizzle home? P*mpey home? Should have been simples. Any game can go wrong.

Wouldn't say Pompey should have been a straight forward result. On paper yes, but the derby factor plays a huge part.

BC at home was poor yes but they are still a better side than Cov.

Since the only two options offered in this thread are either promotion tonight or promotion on Saturday by beating Coventry I'm not sure why anyone would prefer it tonight. Surely we'd all prefer it to happen in live play at St Marys in front of a capacity crowd rather than sat at home finding out West Ham have drawn or lost - where's the thrill in that? Now, if the offer is that West Ham win tonight and we are left in the lap of the Gods against Coventry I could understand people opting to take promotion today. :p

i would have liked it done on saturday, now i would like us to do it on saturday against cov but i really dont think it will be as easy as some think, alot of pressure on our players, none on covs.also feel that if its not going well some of our support will get on the players.so if leicester do us a favour,id take it tonight, coys

So surely the same will apply to Hull when they play West Ham on saturday. You can't just say only the team with nothing to play for against Saints will raise their game - also surely same for Leicester tonight. How much pressure are West Ham under compared to us? They have to win two and score enough goals to turn around goal difference whilst hoping we don't beat Coventry. If we were to calculate the pressure I'm sure there is way more on West Ham than us. Relax!

Fair comment turks and I agree wholeheartedly, but they are often the hardest teams to beat; the ones with precisely f*ck all to lose. They are already relegated, how sweet would it be for them to show their fans they can play, and against the best side in the division? (well, possibly second best?) Nobody expects them to get anything at SMS, that is a dangerous game for us if we still need to win it.

They only have to win 2 by any score if we lose to Cov

Promotion tonight please, I don't fancy during the Coventry match having rumours about the WHam score filtering around the crowd and onto the players. I do have a sick feeling that we will only be drawing with Coventry and WHam are gradually winning by more and more against Hull until we have to win to get auto promotion. Don't think my nerves could take it.

yeah, how many people expected Chelsea to beat Barca.

Still think we'll win though and can't see west ham winning both of theirs as they are too inconsistant

Assuming WHU win tonight, it will be way too close and dangerous to even start thinking about us going up on Sat with a draw. Although there is a slim possibility that we could draw and go up, the only mindset is win, win, win.

We should win. We really should, and we almost certainly will. Given the league positions it seems like a done deal. But like M271 says, you can almost see the scenario on the final day.... and that would mean the skates injury time goal had kept us down, ffs I couldn't bear that.

Come on leicester, put it to bed for us!!

I'm sitting at my desk now looking out of the window and can clearly see the tops of the stands at the King Power Stadium. I will be there tonight cheering on another team like I've never done before in my life. I'm even borrowing a Leicester shirt from a mate. I will be going more mental than any Leicester fan in that stadium if they score this evening.

I think the only way this will end a draw is if they score in the last minute or injury time. We will definitely score in this game its just whether they get a little bit of luick and score late on?

Tonight, please.

I don't think it would detract from the last day vs. Coventry at all. (the Walsall game last year was a great party, even though the result was technically an irrelevance....well, we had to avoid losing 12-0 or something).

Isn't the Cov game like the southend game when we got into the play offs under Burley. They were already relegated and we had to at least draw. It was tense until we got the first goal and then they rolled over and even their fans didn't care after that. It ended 2-0 if I recall.

Southend scored first IIRC. It was scary until we got on top. I thought it was 4 - 1 in the end.

Sorry my bad, you're right it was 4-1. Got my games mixed up. I just remember their fans giving it large until we went ahead, then giving up totally.

Hope this doesn't happen again as a early Cov goal would get a few nerves going. However would happily go through that if it meant a 4-1. A draw or leicester win tonight would be even better though!

Absolutely do not care whether its tonight, on Saturday or on May 19th (yes, I've looked up the date...). I don't care if its via a 5-0 win over Coventry or a criminally unjust last-minute penalty for Leicester tonight. Only one thing counts - and that's what division we kick off in in August.

A second successive promotion will be a stunning acheivement and come August if we're up we won't care about not beating the skates or losing to Reading and 'boro or being crap on TV. We'll just remember Kelvin at Leeds, Jos scoring every Tuesday night, SRL's hat-tricks and Fat Sam looking worse and worse as the season went on

Yes, if you could get all your fellow Saints fans to join us in chanting "Sisu Out" that would be fantastic ! I know that many, many Sky Blue fans like Saints -- similar history, great potential and have experienced Ken Deluded and Sisu ! Would you be kind enough to post this request on the Saints wall ? Cheers -- go and do a Norwich and Swansea -- perform well in the Premiership. SISU OUT !!!

So if we're gonna do it shouldn't this have a thread of its own??
