keithd Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 TBF the Nazi's did have style from their uniforms to their choreographed parades to their stirring music. i believe Jimmy Carr said something along these lines. Made me laugh but so do his jokes about things far nearer the knuckle than that, dont see what the fuss is about. Guess im scum too then.... dubai_phil Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Not Guilty M'lud. I was watching the match on a dodgy innernet stream seeing as once again Al Jism screwed us over and didn't show the match, but had the Barca Madrid match on 5 different channels - WTF is that all about? DP was in some German Strip Joint on a Stag Weekend, totally bollixed. Don't understand the literary reference or indeed even know what a 'painiting' is!! One part of that sentence is factually incorrect... Mind you the lads did get in some resounding choruses of The Dambusters & The Great Escape before we lost all control of our functionality Seems that was not the most PC idea in the Augustiner Beer Tent at Fruhlungs Fest though. We ended up being asked to leave by some bloke in Lederhosen.
MrMojoRisin Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 If I had the money I would invite all the usual contributors to meet in person in a pub, just to add alcohol to the mix, as I think that would very interesting to observe the arguing of points of view without having to type them out. Lazlo78 Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 how do you explain him saying he would make it his life mission to rub it in our faces WHEN we fail to go up..? After seeing the post in question I will put that down to a personal spat between you and Alps. You can hardly claim that he's not a real Saints fan on the basis of your mutual dislike. Sorry, I stand by my initial observations... We're all dreadfully involved in this thing but we have different ways of coping with pressure. kpturner Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Then the answer (by process of elimination between yes and no, FFS) is YES.Great thanks. So just to confirm your stance - you are greatly offended by the current wax-work dummy of Hitler in Tussauds and you are also greatly offended by people in fancy dress (as Hitler, or any other Nazi, or Bin Laden) etc etc. Personally, I am not offended by people prancing around dressed up as Jack the Ripper, Sweeney Todd, Hitler, Bin Laden, Dracula, Ivan the Terrible, or any other dead or alive lunatic (fictional or real). Although I wouldn't do it myself, it is just fancy dress - they are taking the ****** out of the characters they portray. It's a bit different to setting up a stage in front of the Away fans entrance at 'Boro and spouting their pro Islamic Extremist or Nazi views. So, in answer to your original question, that is why I thought the Stewards were a bit OTT in their treatment of the lad. It was harmless nonsense IMHO

Send them my thanks for the diplomatic message of good will and friendship they distribute, wont you ? Whoosh Actually I'm in total agreement with you. We had a group of 16 including two good German speakers. In that group were 3 lads who are Millionaires but happen to be from Essex innit. Totally clear at every place we went to the "Racist" hostility due to the Stereotypes. Because we were "Brits" even in HofBrau Haus, they stationed a security guard at our table and told us NOT to sing along with the Ooompah band songs. I skipped the clubbing (too old) but again, every club they went to they were turned away, hell, we even had a private dinner room booked in one location and they would not let us in at first, it took 15 minutes of "discussions" in German before he finally understood. I see it on trips to UK & we see it down here. The guy in Lederhosen was our Stag who told us it was time to leave. Our bus was waiting. Oh and yes we DID sing the songs, but were singing them with a German Stag party of 20 who joined in and they taught us their songs, the funniest moment was a choice between them doing the Dambusters or them trying to teach our lads the dance moves to that Mike Telo song while everyone was standing on the benches & holding Litre Steins.... Fair to say that about 90% of the people around us were PMSL'ing while a few older ones didn't see the funny side. Anyway this was a thread about inappropriate behaviour we behaved inappropriately but in the Best Possible Taste Totally understand how annoying it must be though

Frank's cousin Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 This is like one of those blue rince conservative groups that want to ban porn on the grounds its offensive to women - the REALITY is that its not offensive to women, but that SOME women find it offensive.... Same thing here, costume of OBL or Nazi uniforms are in them selves not offensive etc. But the fact remains that some people will be sensitive to the issues and offended by it. You have to ask yourselves are you going to be selfish and say its all OK because you dont find it and issue, or because its in public that you should be sensitive to what SOME might find offensive? Choice is yours I guess, but it does come down to what standrads you set yourself. ... with porn, if you are offended by it you dont have to watch or see it... its not (in general) something folk view in public , you can do what the feck you like behind closed doors, but somethings are best left there

You cannot claim any credibility in you arguments if you say you believe this to mean I am taking sides. I am unable to take part in any meaningful way in your argument regarding the attractiveness, or otherwise, of the Nazis or their record on human rights as I am restricted to 3 posts. I would suggest, however, that in any competition involving atrocities meted on the peoples of other nations this country would certainly make the play-offs, and probably the play-off finals if not automatic promotion. Victor Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 No, but this bit is gut-wrenching handwringing Empire hangover-guilt b*ll*cks. And what do you call it when Germans admit they may have been a little harsh on the Jews, Poles, gypsies and gays? And I wasn't simply referring to the Empire. And it wasn't the Nazis who invented slave labour that saw millions die because they were treated worse than animals. And you can throw in what we have done to our own people such as setting them alight because of their religious beliefs, political allegiances, because they are poor and have no power and can therefore be made to put on a uniform and 'win' us land or oil or whatever makes a few rich, or defend what has already been stolen etc. etc.. You have a totally inadequate knowledge of this country's history, recent or less recent, or awareness of what is still happening so your comments are valueless and your pity not wanted. My last post.

Crisp Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 We had a politican over here until about 3 years ago called Jörg Haider. He died in a car crash. He was brilliant at serving the interests of the local consitutents, but he was a right-wing whack-job, who made offensive comments like Hitler ran orderly labour schemes. Your comment is on a par with that. Thats not offensive in itself as its basically true. The issue is why he would have said it.

Norm Posted 23 April, 2012 Share Posted 23 April, 2012 Without knowing Apls personally, I can almost guarantee you that he is 100% Saints. Actually I think he and I are very similar in some senses - especially when it comes to handling pressure. My bet (sorry Alps, hope you can accept this): Alps is very passionate but also very afraid of being disappointed. The remedy is to always visualise (and put into writing) the most pessimistic version of possible events, so you do not get disappointed. And if things does not go wrong, you only get pleasantly surprised. Also when things go wrong, putting frustrations into writing can be a great therapy - although (as Alps must probably have noticed by now) this rarely gets a good reception amongst other equally frustrated fans. I do the same, only my coping strategy is different: I concede that I can't make a difference and that I might as well blindly support the team and have fun in the process - but deep down I'm still dreading that we'll c*ck up... Right, I'm off to paint my face and find a funny wig for tonight! Do I have to make an appointment for a consultation? I've been told (recently) that I need help for this problem I have and ................well, I don't really want to discuss it on here. Hope to hear from you soon.
