saintant Posted 22 April, 2012 Share Posted 22 April, 2012 Just watched a re-run of the Football League Show which only confirmed my view at the time that the ref allowed Boro to take the free kick eaxactly where they wanted. Fonte is pulled up for a foul at least five yards outside the D on the right hand side. They place the ball two yards from the D just to the left of centre so ideal for a right footed curler. The referee made some disgraceful decisions including the fact that he stood and did nothing as Boro chose where they wanted to place the ball for the kick. Complete dereliction of duty at a vital time in the game. Master Bates is a very apt name for this clueless official.
Saint_John Posted 22 April, 2012 Share Posted 22 April, 2012 There were 3 free kicks just outside the area in the game, 2 for Saints 1 for boro. The only 1 he made sure the wall was back the full distance was the boro one. The 2 that Saints had the wall is only about 7 or 8 yards back. As with the "sending off" (sic) the Referee was there to make sure that Sky TV have a game to show next Saturday. If boro had not won they could not catch cardiff and all the play-off teams would have been decided. All the relegation teams were decided yesterday. With the boro win, Sky can now show with a play-off game (Cardiff or Boro) or a promotion game. Also a Saints win yesterday would also have made monday's TV game a "dead game". The9 Posted 22 April, 2012 Share Posted 22 April, 2012 Just the record, I could see from the other end of the pitch that Jutkiewicz was pulling Fonte's shirt and pulling him across the pitch for about 10 yards, and that Fonte had pulled Jutkiewicz's arm to try and release it. So it should have been our free-kick.
