Like all good drama, it goes to the final day.

I'm not sure our layers can take the pressure - or have the desire!

Why oh why can't our players close down other teams on the edge of he box - we let players run at us - give them time and space - and give goals away!

God knows what our odds were on blowing promotion before tonight's game, 5 points clear and with a better goal difference. Even a draw would have been a good result. I'm going to be ****ting my pants over the next week. Leicester - you get us up and I'll genuinely have you down as my third team.

50-1 or thereabouts I think.

At least make a bit of money out of it going to the final day, I just put £30 on WHU to win at Leicester, odds weren't too bad

The most money I can afford to lose in my life is about £1000. Putting that on a West Ham win gets me £2500. West Ham failing to win loses me £1000 but guarantees we're back in the big time. It's a fricking massive decision to make - I'm sorely tempted. Perhaps not a grand, but an amount that would make it worthwhile. 6/4 on Ladbrokes. If ever there was a game to bet on as it's seemingly no lose for us, it's Monday night's game...

£250 gets me £625. That'll pay the last installments for my wedding in June. Done.

Or make you £875 short :'(

Nah I have covered my bases but I get your point. I'm behind Leicester all the way on Monday - money is fleeting. (Plus I've won quite a bit more than I've lost this season anyway...)

The last time we gave WestHam a shot-in-the-arm by losing they went out and won 6-0.

Come Tuesday we may well be facing the need to win against Coventry.

A few games ago, in the "games remaining" thread I think it was, I believe I remarked we could be going up but on goal difference. I still think that could be the case, but despite our patchy form I think we have it in our tank to defeat a deflated Coventry side, at home, and with a carnival atmosphere from the fans behind us. Anywho, Leicester will be no pushovers, despite the fact they have nothing to play for - I'm hoping for a boring 0-0 in that game, but I've backed West Ham for the consolation money anyway.

8 points ahead of the pack on at least two occasions in the last 25-odd games. Perspective.

er we were never 8 points clear when level on games Alps, the best has been 5 and at one point we were also behind... its been ups and downs for sure, but that was to be expected in a division that is as tough as thins one... seriously where we are right now despite teh disspointmnet of today, is nothing short of fantastic - yes we need to get over the line, and I am sure we will do... thats my perspective

What is really making me **** my pants is this.............. WHAM win on Monday, and are winning on Saturday 3-0 at half time. Meanwhile Cov go 1-0 up at St Marys...you can almost be sure they will as they will have no pressure and we will have tonnes (unless, of course, LCFC win on Monday and then its all a moot point anyway).........I am worried AGAIN

I always felt it would go to the last day, but as long as it was in our hands I'd be pretty comfortable about it - and it is, by 2 points if WHU win.

Have faith in the lads. They will know what they need to do next weekend as I fully expect WHU to win tomorrow.

To be honest, we couldn't have asked for it much better could we? At home to a relegated team who will more than likley be blooding youth players and preparing for next year.

They'll probably put up a bit of a fight but if we're anywhere near our game then this will be comfortable. Don't panic.

It wouldn't be Southampton without a good old stutter over the line would it.

You're so right, and with not very much hindsight achieving promotion without some final game heroics was never likely I suppose. Knowing us I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Coventry score the first goal next Saturday either, but if we can't win that game then we don't deserve promotion anyway I reckon.

Keep this under your hat, but I secretly wanted us to get there at St Marys anyway.

Well St Marys will be rocking next Saturday unlike we've ever seen regardless of any result tomorrow.I for one believe the atmosphere we create will be worth a goal to the players.Nicola should issue everyone with a flag just like Chelsea did for a European game recently. We as a club and supporters have to use everything we can to get this team over the line and where we belong in the Premier League. We have to recreate the 1976 Cup Final atmosphere because I believe this is as big a day as that was on May 1st. We are going to have 30,000+ fans in the stadium.Imagine all the flags waving throughout the ground. We should also play the same music that is played before an England game where all the crowd get in the spirit of the occassion. This is a massive day for the club and i for one do not want to turn up and find the bloke who does the entertainment on the pitch doing his usual boring thing. The club have to do everything in their power to help create the atmosphere in the ground. COYRS

The free flags is a f*cking awful idea. Looks sh*t.

Why?

Why do we need a fake, manufactured atmosphere? It's the kind of thing Pompey did for the FA cup final. When Chelsea needed it against Barca last week I cringed a bit. The place will be rocking without anything tacky like that.

(having said that, I do quite like it when they do that red and white mosaic thing sometimes for big games. Makes the stadium look good when the teams are coming out of the tunnel, especially if it's on telly)

Like we have recently? What on earth happened to that 8 point lead we had?

I'd have to say throwing away that cushion has been ****, but I don't even think we'll have to play in top gear to beat them. They have just been beaten at home by Doncaster ffs! and they have the worst away record in the football league.

they are dross, as the table says. If we lose to them then we have serious problems, and I don't think we do. We're good enough to finish the job on an amazing season.

Ok, now it's damn tense. Cov are without their best defender, Keogh on Saturday though.

Dear me.

And their best midfielder, Sammy Clingan.

By all accounts they will be fielding alot of squad and youth players according to their fans.

Like I said on the match thread.

We have to go to Brum and beat them by 3 clear goals and hope that Cov win or draw at Upton Park.

OK it's tense but I'd rather have it this way around.

What are you talking about? Do I have to read the whole thread to comprehend?
