Coventry build up thread

Recommended Posts

It is only a game

But this one carries the weight of the entire season with it. That's a lot of investment regarding time, nerves and wetted bedsheets. ;)

I should add that I'm not calling anyone else bedwetters, my own is pretty moist right now.

A nice positive post from a Bristol City fan, this should ease the nerves somewhat.

This situation reminds me so much of our final League 1 match against Rotherham. Like Coventry, they were already relegated, in awful form and they were all that stood in our way from promotion.

I was bricking it all week, thinking of all the possible scenarios and how devastated i'd be if we somehow managed to balls it up.

20 minutes into the match, David Noble had already put us 2-0 up, we were cruising and I was wondering just what on earth I was worried about!

Its going to be the same on Saturday. You'll do it Saints, im sure of it. I dont blame you for being nervous though!

I'm not worried to be honest.

I said when we lost to Boro that we'd be going up, and I also said that Leicester would lose to West Ham, meaning it would go to the final day of the season. I'm right so far!

Coventry couldn't beat us when we played a weakened side, and they couldn't even draw with us when they came from two goals down to level. We've shown that when pressure is on that we CAN get the results. Why not do it again? I'm predicting a win and a promotion party.

How often has it come down to this.

And how often between ourselves and Coventry, West Ham... a Hull, an Oldham, a Sheffield Wednesday, how about a Manchester City?

This is what Southampton fans used to be made of.

Don't let your forbears down by whining and patsying.

Do what a thousand better men have done before. Get on your shirt, get on your scarf. Get behind your side and BE THERE.

For the GREAT ESCAPE 2012 - when the team with the power of the Gods on their side, finally break the shackles of the lower leagues and return to their spiritual HOME!

And look forward to another 27 years in the top flight.

And hope you're there to see every one of them.

UP THE FECKING SAINTS!!!!!!!

Only 27 more years in the top flight? Bloody pessimist.

West Ham fan's take on our bottle for this :D

I've got to say that looking at the Southampton forum 'SaintsWeb' is hilarious. One guy in particular (Alpine Saint) is in a whole different league of bed wetters. I just wish we could clone him 30,000 times and buy them all tickets for the Coventry game. It would be impossible for their team to operate. Anyone know any good genetic engineers?"

Made me smile.

if he is touch and go he will play. in the past he has been protected but being the last game and given the importance of the game, it would have to be a pretty bad injury for him not to play imo.

not sure that Saints use that policy any more.We should be well capable of beating Coventry without AL.

Even if we might have to play him in the play offs.....**** or bust then

He looked throughly ******ed off in his post match interview at 'Boro. Hope he gets in a more positive frame of mind for Saturday - assuming he is not injured of course.

Perhaps he knew that people would be expecting him to play with an injury again whereas if we'd won he'd be on some well needed R+R with just a trot out for the last 10 minutes to salute the crowd.Perhaps he's like me,seeing wasted chances every match just p*sses him off.Not to mention awful refereeing.

Just had a thought. Hull will know what tactics West Ham will play. They will be all out attack for a high score. Knowing that must help a manager decide how he will play against it. I'd go for counter attack as they will need to get heads forward. West ham will be very vunrable at the back though deadly up front.

A little bit of luck and they could get tonked by a more than capable Hull city

Davis

Butterfield Fonte Hooiveld Fox

Guly Schneiderlin Cork Lallana

Lambert Sharp

Bench: Bart, Harding, de Ridder, Hammond, Barnard - no point in having Martin on the bench for this one - need game changers in case we come unstuck.

That may seem to be the case, but we are talking Fat Sam here so probably going with 4-6-0

With Coventry captain and player of the year Richard Keogh suspended, Martin Cranie's centre back partner is likely to be a 17 year old making his league debut. Sharp, Lallana and Lambert should in theory have a field day!

Hope so but I still remember that evening I spent at Wembley in 1974 when Brian Clough described Tomazewski as "a clown".

England with Clark,Chivers and Channon spearheading the attack must have created 60,70,80 clear cut chances, barstard saved every one of them.

ffs

cranie was bought up here...surely he would be a gent and hack down his mate adam in the penalty box

ffs

ffs, CRANIE at CB

jeez...we HAVE to win this

lambert will destroy him

LOL

I still remember his performance at CB with Baird at Pride Park in the playoffs. The pair of them were magnificent. But you're right, our attacking threat should be too much for Coventry, especially with a youngster making his debut at CB, too.

3 out of town Saints are staying in Southampton for the night on saturday. We will be celebrating promotion, where are the rest of you celebrating.

Silver Fern and Ferryman in Warsash, probably, i think sons will be out to rub a few closet skates noses in it before they finally crawl back under their stones for another 40 years of saints domination

Actually, it is an old man's dream. Something that he put the foundations in place for, but couldn't be around to see through.

Three years ago we were days away from never playing another game. Saturday is more than a game, it makes up for the years of hurt and crowns how far we have come in restoring our pride as a club. WIFM.
