Coventry build up thread

Recommended Posts

And so it comes down to this. A game at home to get promoted. We'd dream of this at the start of the season and now we have the opportunity. The season has been sensational. We've had some downs as well, but more often than not it is down to missed opportunities and what could have been with the title. In fact our downs when put into perspective aren't downs at all.

We are now presented with this challenge and we have 4 days to get ready for it. It certainly sounds like Coventry have some problems on and off the field but I do not concern myself with them. The players will know about this opportunity and I expect us to go for it.

It'll be nervous at times but the crowd will stay with the team and I think we'll all be celebrating come 3pm Saturday.

Then when the dust has settled, I think we'll be reflecting back at one of the best seasons the club has had given the circumstances.

If Coventry player of the season can not play, who do we think will replace him? and how should we play them?

I think we have been poor defensively, I would play Cork as CM and Spiderman DCM.

Who know's in Nigal I trust!! COYS

Guess this is what its all about, SMS will be bouncing & the players will be as fired up as they've ever been (90 mins to change their lives etc). They've done it before, they can do it again. Jose, Guly & Cork to score....alright maybe not!

This is gonna be 1 long feckin week!!!

Perhaps, finally. It will be Guly time.

Nige will have the lads ready to play. They can really now win something big in front of their home fans. The mental approach and team spirit has been one of the key factors in our last season and 3/4.

The ONLY thing that can really screw us up will be the fans. Saturday is not about nerves from any of us, it is about that one word.

Perhaps for the health of a large chunk of people on this forum (and they know who they are as do the rest of us) it would be better if we don't go up. After all, these people are petrified at the prospect of of playing lowly Coventry at home. Imagine the sheer terror if we had to face Man Utd at Old Trafford - I think many wouldn't survive the stress levels. Better if we just throw Saturday's game and the play-offs.

The only team that is going to beat Saints on Saturday is Saints. If the team that got us into this position turn up and play as we can do, then the deal is done. Nerves will come into it because of the magnitude of the game obviously. But beat the nerves and we will beat Coventry. BTW the fans have a massive part to play on Saturday especially if things do start to go wrong - can't underestimate the fans part in this. As Nigel says - togeather as one - that includes the fans.

Can you imagine if its ultimately that 94th minute equaliser from David Norris which puts us in the playoffs? I'm gonna have nightmares now..

I will forever blame the f@@kwit idiots who streamed onto the pitch when they thought Saints had beaten the skates, and caused that crucial extra minute to be added to the match.

They will of course do it again on Saturday.

This is what we are fans for in my book - real Roy of the Rovers opportunity for Saints players - excitement drama and nerves a jangling. Somethings i life are worth waiting for and taste far sweeter because they are earned.

Nervous as hell, yeah, positive, yep, but come on no one not even the worst of teh pessimist cant say that this is going to be anything other tahn one hell of a mad 90+ minutes.

If it went against ius, we will have all summer to be miserable and talk about what ifs and analyse failings etc - now is not that time, now is the time for men, we band of brothers, once more, together, as one blah blah... COME ON BRING IT ON.

Rather be a Derby fan me. I mean, imagine the excitement up there as they look forward to a vital match against Peterboro. And with both sides having nothing to play for it promises to be a feast of football. Hold on though, almost forgot, these teams with nothing to play for are only brilliant against Southampton. Yeah, stuff it...I've got a ticket for the Coventry match but I think I'll pop up to Derby and enjoy all the excitement up there instead. who'd want to be at St Marys to watch a crucial game that will see us win and get promoted?

I feel strangely calm and confident about Saturday. I suppose the nerves will build but if I think about this fixture logically then surely there has to be a happy outcome. Saints have actually been pretty good over the years when a last day result is required - as long as I dismiss that capitulation to Manure a few years back.

I know that the press will be full of talk about pressure and nerves but really, when I think about it, this is what competitive football is all about. Coventry are coming along with a team that seems to be made up of a few that'll get a game as long as they turn up with their boots. Forget about the recent stumbles of recent weeks. I'm confident that Saints will be professional, cut out the wobbles and put the Sky Blues to the sword.

There's also a chance that Hull just might enjoy their day out in East London.

I debriefed the game, drew a blue line under it and have moved on to the next one, entirely focused on winning a game of football. We've got an honest group of hard working professionals that are all pulling in the same direction to get this magnificent football club back where it belongs. Adkins has done his homework and we will want to get a grip of the ball early on and play football because we have 32,000 fans, great fans, that let us play positive football. Coventry may be relegated but I have read Sun Tzu the Art of War and you never underestimate the opposition, so we are going to control the controllables and win a game of football. It is as simple as that.

Think I'll just stay in and watch it on the telly now. The 15 minute walk to the station and the 20 minutes on the train into Central are getting a strain these days, and my view of the pitch won't be obscured by jester hats and foam hands.

I predict West Ham will be 4-0 up while we're battering plucky Coventry 0-0 at St Mary's. We'll get a last kick of the game penalty which Lambert will miss. We'll then lose 9-2 on aggregate to Blackpool in the play off semis. Cortese will be so annoyed he'll spend £20 million in the summer and we'll win the league next season by 17 points with Lambert scoring 44 goals.

I look at the saturday game like this. Our last game of the season at home to Coventry will compliment our first game of the season at home to leeds. Both on the tv and they will act as bookends to chronicle the chapters of what has been a wonderful season. Whilst the rest of our tv games have been largely underwhelming, these two games will define our season by providing the spine to our rise back to the premiership. keep the faith...saturday completes a beautiful symmetry. If we are going to win only 2 games live on tv this season, then these 2 will do. COYR.

How often has it come down to this.

And how often between ourselves and Coventry, West Ham... a Hull, an Oldham, a Sheffield Wednesday, how about a Manchester City?

This is what Southampton fans used to be made of.

Don't let your forbears down by whining and patsying.

Do what a thousand better men have done before. Get on your shirt, get on your scarf. Get behind your side and BE THERE.

For the GREAT ESCAPE 2012 - when the team with the power of the Gods on their side, finally break the shackles of the lower leagues and return to their spiritual HOME!

And look forward to another 27 years in the top flight.

And hope you're there to see every one of them.

UP THE FECKING SAINTS!!!!!!!

Saints have already won twice on TV this season. Against Leeds United home and away. ;)

I hope not friend - Leeds and Leeds spring to mind. 3 games would do ;)

So then put simply, forget the other 45 games, forget any refereeing mistakes, forget any last minute equalisers, Saturday is a cup final in our own back yard, with a ratio of 11 Saints fans to their 1, against one of the worst teams in the division.

I've been a Saints fan long enough to know if there's one thing we usually manage to do, it's pull off a final day win when required. Believe.

COYR. WIFM.

It's been said a lot, but warrants repeating. To get promoted tonight, as great as it would've been for the club and some people's health, nothing can get better than sealing promotion, on the last day of the season, at home, with another sell-out crowd. I can't fecking wait. We'll be fine. Saturday was disappointing, but I don't think we bottled it. Just had a bit of an off day and were on the wrong end of some w@nk refereeing.

I just hope everyone gets a grip and pulls it together, gets right behind the team, and has a good day out. The Saints are going up.

This.... is our play-off final. Only it's not at Wembley, we don't get a trophy for winning and the money's not so good. But still, this is our final.

One cup final, two teams that could be two divisions apart next season.

We will win. We have to. We will be professional.
