Coventry build up thread

Recommended Posts

Stop panicking about this game.

As long as we are professional we will win. I doubt we'd even need to be in full flow to be honest.

They have been relegated for a reason and have the worst away record in the football league for a reason. Whereas we have one of (if not the best) home record in the football league.

This is all assuming WHU will comfortably beat Leicester away too, which will not be easy as they are a very handy team in a false position based on squad size and the cost of it.

pride,

win bonus

playing for a place next season

last home game of the season

they are pros

like today, what is the point in everton bothering at OT...yet they are currently all over man u.

but, lets follow that point to the end....what reason have coventry got in busting a gut at SMS?

I'd imagine Coventry players will have more to prove after a disappointing season and wanting to have a pop at a table topping side. Leicester players are probably more relaxed in the knowledge that they've still all put in a good shift this season.

Granted its not a massively significant possibility but might be where the players heads are at.

I'm just concerned and fearful of worst case scenario after witnessing Reading, Pompey, Blackpool and now the boro game.

Besides, it all depends how much money BFS has to offer Pearson after the big payout to Gus ;) ;)

and the leicester player won't have anything to prove..?

the 2nd favourites to go up and have a chance to show that they are in a false position..?

can go on all dat and neither of us will be right or wrong.

but what is a fact, away to leicester and mightily harder to win than a home again against this coventry team

Not sure I get your logic there to be honest. Leicester have nothing to be relaxed about, they have royally cocked up this year and they all know it - so they want to end the season with a momentum to take into next year. They will not be relaxed thinking they've had a good year, far from it.

I guess when you consider where they were expected to finish, it's a disaster but it could have been a hell of a lot worse I.e coventrys position.

I'll take your word about Leicesters attitudes tomorrow and hope to see them tear them a new one

Can everyone with an adult ticket for this game please not wear any fancy dress or paint their fookin faces. I'm sick of our support looking like mongs.

Thanks in advance.

Good idea.... Everyone should be given a dress code, id prefer shirt and tie myself!!

Let people do and wear what they want....... Just having some fun

Richardson in for Butterfield, Morgan in for Hammond, De Ridder in for Chaplow. That should have been done a few games ago, then we would be up by now.

Morgan hasn't been fit, doubt if he's a 100% yet, probably start on Saturday though, don't understand the Richardson/Butterfield situation at all.

Will be in Leicester Monday for a conference. Have arranged to take my Leicester Uni student daughter out for a meal in the pm. Can I persuade her she'd prefer to go to the King Power stadium and have a burger at half time instead?

Haha...did the same with mine when she was at De Montfort...had to promise the tapas bar (just near John Lewis-recommended!) later though!

Saturday's game is effectively a cup final - like the play-off final, but at home, and against a team who have nothing to win. We have a great team with quality players, and we're playing decent football. And we stand to win the biggest prize in world sport. One game from the Premier League.

If we keep calm, trust the players and ignore the lilly-livered pussies who wet themselves if they leave home without holding their Mum's hand, well be fine. I can't wait for next week: for the game, the celebrations, and the party in the pub afterwards!

We have simply to hold our nerve.

1. Let us see what happens at Leicester.

2. If we have to win against Cov then let us go to it.

3. If we fail against Cove, then we prepare in a professional way for the play offs !

Should we fail to get promotion, well it is not a disaster. We can build for the next season. We can strengthen our team and squad and try again.

Sorry to disagree but it would be a humongous disaster if we dont go up. What planet are you on. Are you Rupert Lowe? I have never heard such shiet coming from someone's mouth. We have lead the division for a major part of it and stayed in the top two for the rest of it. If we cock it up now, I'd would be a travesty. And for its worth I believe that it would cost Adkins his job if we did fail.

we all know Guly will play instead of De ridder as nigel loves him! Richardson

,he is a must as is morgan ......still dont know why Puncheon is not even on the subs bench as we need some kind of offensive direct running ...De ridder will as per usual be the impact sub! Shame he was not on bench at miiddlesbro as we were crying out for PACE!!!!!!!!

Do we know for certain that Chaplow is out?

If so I would start Morgan and put Cork on the right. De Ridder can be used as an impact sub if needed. I really think we have missed Richardson in the last few games and his by-line crosses into the box. Butterfield is good but we always end up crossing too deep.

If Wham win tomorrow then the game Saturday surely has to be in our top 10 biggest Saints games ever.

Coventry are also a woeful team whose defensive record is so poor its actually impressive. That against the leagues best attack and I can only see one thing happening.

Still would rather go up tomorrow via Leceister anyday.

we will do this....a full weeks rest after 3 games in a week..(2 of which were away)

morgan will be back

at home

knowing a win will be required if west ham win on monday

full house

against a relegated team

against the team with the worst away record in the football league

against a team missing one of their better players

if you wanted a home game against anyone in the league to win..then this is the very team..no other

If failure to get promoted cost Adkins his job it would be a massive over reaction and totally unjustified. Whatever happens he has done a brilliant job.

As for your post, stop being a drama Queen. If we failed to get promoted we just have to accept that we arent quite ready and start building again. FFS, we have a 5 year plan !

Arguably our biggest game ever if you see it in terms of financial rewards !

The job should have been doen weeks ago. Typical Saints. Leave it until the last minute. Start to rely on others slipping up, and make all the fans sweat on the outcome. Why is life as a Saints fn so ****ing frustrating?

The word you are looking for is exciting :)

I'd rather have it this way than have it all done and dusted weeks ago.

This is part of our culture, its what you sign up for when you "choose" to follow a team like Saints. Its for the brief moments in the sun like '76, 82/83, 2003. Its for the last chance saloon survivals against relegation, for Dellhurst, for dicking Spurs live on TV, for Pahars scoring against the Skates, for staying up on goal difference ahead of Manchester Citeh.

I'm clearly a masochist, along with Saints I follow the New England Patriots (**** for the first 20 years I supported them), St Kilda in Aussie Rules (ditto), Seattle Mariners (ditto - and they even have a Le Tiss-esque genius playing for them), Ferrari in F1 (started supporting them the year after Scheckter won the title in '79, didn't win again until ~2000), and the Chicago Cubs (cursed for not letting a fan bring a goat in to the stadium, would have made a World Series but for one of their own fans trying to catch a foul ball).

It's what I love about sport. I'd hate to be a ManU fan where the expectation is to win every week and the only true emotion you feel is dissapointment at the occasional defeat. Better to have years of disappointment and then a couple of seasons like we've just had. My mate's kids are just getting properly in to football (to the point it consumes their lives), and it reminds me of when I was their age and we'd just signed Keegan - they've become Saints fans at a truly blessed time.

If we achieve it tomorrow, do we introduce a few of the younger lads? JWP,Shaw, Chambers?

On the bench maybe. With a huge crowd though it would nice to allow the team to enjoy the atmosphere and send them off in style for next season.

Well this is what we all want, a few beers in the pub beforehand then watch a nailbiting game where i am bloody sure things will go pearshaped before we turn it round only for them to go wrong again.

The radios wil be tuned for news with sham winning by 4 or 5 with us still needing a goal then along pops Guly to finish it with 5 minutes to go only for us to spend the last 5 mins in our own box hacking it clear with the screams and heart attacks everywhere in the stands.

That's pretty much how I expect it go too. Not sure if that's what I want though. Five nil up inside 20 minutes and I might just start to relax a bit.

We will already be up come this game. I have no doubt that West Ham will not win at Leicester.

Leicester are good at home. Their last 10 home games.

W7 D3 L0

Also we will smash Cov 4-0.

Even if we draw, I think we will still go up.

Looking into this a bit closer. 6 clean sheets in this as well.

Clean sheets in the last 3 at home. In the last 7 at home they have let in 3.

They have only lost at home by more than 1 goal twice, the last time back in October when they lost 0-3 to Millwall, the other 0-2 Reading.

They really are ok at home.

They are also better against top half sides.

How nice you left Alpine a kiss!

We don't deserve this for ***k sake. We are loyal, we are strong; we are the only team in Hampshire, so why do we always have to go through all this ****?

Have to go through probably two promoted seasons. Awful.

I saw them beat a full strength Norwich at Carrow Road in the FA Cup this season; they're a pretty good side on their day.
