Coventry build up thread

Recommended Posts

It's not about fear, I think a lot of people aren't counting their chickens away from the forum and are bringing that attitude to the forum. Afterall we all know that if we lose there's gonna be some sh/t coming our way from fans of other clubs, so it's just a case of keeping it low key until we've actually done it.

So you won't be jumping up and down tomorrow if we score first in case we go on to lose? ;)

I hope that the crowd stay behind us, IF we get off to a bad start.

I do not think we will. I think we will come out the traps with an attitude that we will score more than them, and that is what we have to do. 4-0.

West Ham 2-2

I understand that as I've been the most low key out of everyone at work who, to a man/woman, consider us up. That said, I just cannot see any other result but a win.

I think we will, but like many don't want to tempt fate.

This, if you think about it deep down I think there is not a chance we will lose. Everything points to a easy home win! The sky bet person was nearly laughing at the fact that we will lose. He said well it is not going to happen is it. saints win.

I just think every supporter of a club thinks their team will screw it up, but we really clearly not going to are we!

ARE WE?!

Just had a worrying thought. For WHam it's promotion or bust this year. They've already given Cheats FC enough money to continue to the end of the season (thereby not losing the 6 points they got against them). So I wouldn't be surprised if they've offered Coventry a huge bonus (in the millions) for getting the positive result against us tomorrow that helps them (WHam) leapfrog us. Dodgy but legal, and probably wouldn't work, but food for thought. :?

Legal how? ............it's corruption.Coventry should give it their all regardless of whether West Ham give them money for doing so or not.

That's just being silly.

They can try all they want, but at the end of the day they have poor players who are not good enough for this league (As demonstrated, as the table never lies) and to add insult to injury, half of those players aren't even available.

We're not playing Man City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Milan, Chelsea......we're not away at Leicester, Birmingham, West Ham.

No, we're at home to a relegated, demoralized and depleted Coventry city team. People need to stop panicking and just enjoy the buildup. There couldn't be a better game, let's be honest.

They could offer their best player a lot to give it his all. Do you think that'll make a difference when we will have 11 giving it their all. Who is their best player tomorrow now? Crainy? Very unlikely and wouldn't make any difference anyway.

West Ham are 11/8 to be promoted automatically with Ladbrokes? Surely that's wrong? The odds for a Coventry win are much higher than 11/8 without adding in the factor of West Ham beating Hull. Or am I being stupid?

West Ham 11/8 to be promoted, not promoted automatically. Slim to no chance tomorrow + overwhelming favourites in the playoffs = 11/8.

No, your're not being stupid. It is a two horse race with two possible outcomes. All things being equal it's 50/50 or even money - so at 11/8 it recognises it's the least likely outcome but not so unlikely that it's worth offering any bigger price.

I hate to tempt fate, since that has nasty habits regarding Saints, but a quiet confidence about Saturday's game and the result is growing by the hour for me. Just hope that the blood pressure does n't go off the scale! :D

Yes but for WH to finish 2nd that's the most likely outcome. Odds of them getting promoted another way seem hugely unlikely. Be interesting to see the playoffs odds given what a lottery it is. I imagine WH will be favourite at about 7/4 maybe? No way I'd bet on playoffs though.

Just bet on a saints win. Anything else would be a waste of time and money. If you want good odds go for a 6-0

We are just getting into the relms of fantasy now aren't we ?

West Ham mans massively clutching at straws, but I guess if the roles were reversed we'd be doing the same. If we were in West Hams position, I wouldn't hold much hope, but there's always that 5% chance it could happen. Worth clinging to until we're about 2 up! (Please God!)

Maybe, maybe not. They are desperate for promotion. It is promotion or bust, and they have already paid money to ensure Cheats FC don't go bust until the season ends. Why not offer a big bonus to Coventry? The worst that would happen is that they wouldn't have to pay. But at least it would give Coventry something to play for, and potentially would reap dividends (£90 million to be precise) if it works. Even if the odds are 100-1 of it making a difference, why not try?

I can't see it being illegal: they are offering money for a team to do their best.

Not the same as (for example) offering Brighton money to lose by 6, which indeed would be "Go to Jail, do not go past Go". (Hypothetically, of course ;))

True. In their situation you live in a happy hope for a miracle, in ours you fear one. If the roles were reversed they'd look just as nervous as many of us do.

Quite often bookies will not give you a double on two associated events - so for example a football team to do the treble are often 33/1 even though the individual odds on the events are much higher (say 8/1, 8/1 and 7/1) - I've always thought it a cheek. Just because a team wins one event, the other events are unrelated... If WH are in the play-off's (please God!) it will be interesting to see their odds - I reckon 7/4 might be generous.

I got 13-1 on West Ham to win and Saints to lose. I also got 7-1 on West Ham to win and Saints to draw. Insurance through these two bets covers all negative possibilities and at better odds than West Ham promoted at 11-8. That is a waste of money.

What odds are they offering on Saints failing to go up?

Heroin.

Yes, I shall tell my son and his friend over for a sleepover that I am going out for some heroin. Good call

[actually given my son's lack of observancy I could probably get away with it]

I'm not nervous about tomorrow at all.

Less than 3 years ago we were going into a pre-season match against Eastleigh thinking it could be our last game ever. A month or so later we were bottom of league 1 on -10. There is no way in hell I am getting upset if we finish 3rd in the Championship, two games from Wembley, and 3 games from the Prem.

There is nothing to be nervous about, just enjoy the ride.
