Coventry build up thread

Recommended Posts

Coventry defence will likely consist of Hussey (22) and Clarke (22) at fullback positions with Willis (17) and Craine (24) at centre back. So obviously very inexperienced at the back which hopefully Lambert, sharp, Lallana and Guly will take advantage of.

Actually on paper they look to carry a threat upfront with Platt and McDonald with Platt being good in the air. McSheffrey has a good delivery so we shouldn't give away needless set pieces. The young lad Bigirimana in midfield won young player of the year in the NPC so obviously has talent.

If we control the middle of the park and keep them on the back foot we should have enough fire power to win.

But just because their defence might be young it doesn't need to be totally inexperienced (the 17 yrs old I'll grant you).

Our midfield might well be, Schneiderlin 22,Cork 23,Lallana 23 and De Ridder 25. They've still got nigh on 800 first team games on the counter between them though.

the FACT that their player of the season is out and that they are just not very good...with various other injuries means more

Our Nigel, who art in charge, hallowed be thy name, thy tactics done, this game was won, at Posh as it was at Palace.

Give us this week our Premiership status, and deliver us from the Championship, for thine is the best team, which will give us the glory, for ever and ever .. Amen.

Guly has frustrated since about December, but I'd like to see him played on Saturday, ahead of Frazer on the right. It's tried and tested and it has worked wonders at times, giving Frazer the chance to overlap and cross. I think we'd get plenty of joy from running at their inexperienced defence and getting crosses in.

-----------Davis

Frazer Fonte Hooiveld Fox

Guly Cork Morgan Lallana

----Lambert--Sharp

Should be far too much for them to contain going forward.

Butterfield Fonte Hooiveld Fox

Guly Cork Morgan Lallana

Lambert Sharp

Just my opinion but I believe Butterfield to be a better crosser than Richardson. I'm sure stats would prove me wrong but think on Saturday with a us raining accurate crosses on an inexperienced CB it can only lead to goals for Mr Lambert.

I think the best 11 , for each game, is clear to Nigel which is all that counts (he hasn't got it wrong to often). The fact that 3000 saints fans on here can't agree on a best 11 shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone.....

Guly preferred to Cork against Portsmouth; Butterfield preferred to Richardson for the last few games. Adkins' selections are limited by the squad and sometimes by injuries but he hasn't always picked the same 11 when the same players are available. He has obviously been doing hsi best but the team has lost 3 of the last 6 games while winning only 2, so lets not pretend they are invincible. If we get past Coventry, as we surely will, there will have to be serious thought about who in the squad is capable for the Prem, but even if we were facing another year in the NpC recent performances suggest changes would be needed anyway.

I think some have lost all perspective.

We just came up from league 1. This is a TOUGH league. You're not going to keep on winning every week, even if already established at this level, or coming down from the prem with quality players and huge wagebills. We've done unbelievably well to go on 2 massive winning/unbeaten runs, and only have 1 run of poor results and this little blip.

We're about to secure back to back promotions, but some people will always find negatives and reasons to moan. Not a very bright Professor.

Thing is we don't see what goes on in trainning each week, nor are we privvy to Nigel and the coaching teams tactics talks. I'm willing to assume that if Nigel plays Guly over Cork or picks Butterfield over Richardson that is becuase Nigel thinks that is the best player for the job in that particular game. Modern football is a squad game best 11s are a thing of the past.

No way can we handle a Coventry U18s player, especially with his experience at Nuneaton. Bye bye Premier League.

Its all a smoke screen and Coventry will play their full first team. Just trying to confuse NA by making him change his tactics to cope with the new players being included in the squad.

Put it this way Window Cleaner their defence has combined career appearances of 311 of which Cranie has 189 of them. They are going to be up against Lambert, Sharp, Lallana and most likely Guly who between them have over 1200 career apps.

I can not see any way that we wont win on Sat, in fact I have never been more confident of anything in my 40 years of watching football. Yes, there have been shocks over the years, losing to lower league teams, 3-0 up against Tranny is one that springs to mind. As well as us producing some over the years.

But, I can not recall a shock, a rear guard action, a travisty of a result, in which the result didn't matter to one of the teams. Had Tuesday been a group stage game, with Chelsea already out and Barca needing a win, they would have won 3 or 4. What kept Chlelsea going was prize at the end. What is Cov's prize? A round of applause from 1500 fans, a pat on the back from Andy Thorn, hero worship in Portsmouth and West Ham?

Sit back and enjoy. If we were given any fixture Sat, we would have hand picked this one. Even Donny have players on their day, that can perform, Cov dont. It's not like their Manager is some sort of tactical genius that can inspire his men and lead them to a great victory. They are down and out, playing youngsters and facing the second best side in this league, which includes the best strike force in the League.

4-1 Saints.

We drew 3-3 with Newcastle I seem to remember, when they were chasing Europe and we had nothing to play for... that was the game Blayney pulled off a wonder save against Shearer iirc...

Isn't that Henderson or are there several of them who've been at Nuneaton of late ?

god knows..but they are drafting in the younger lads....who are not very good apparently as they have no one left to play due to injuries/suspensions

you have to wonder how many of the injuries are due to the players not fancying it..?

We can only hope so,they'll probably discover a new superstar in the AOC mould though and Fergie will dob them 50 million

for him immediately after the game.

But we were a similar standard and we had pretty decent players. They are the worst away side in the League and playing the kids. It would be a major major upset if we lost. You dont get major upsets when such a poor team has nothing to play for.

This. We'll be fine, I'm sure of it. I bet Adkins and the players are more relaxed than most people on this forum.

Has anyone else realised the Saints are (hopefully) playing for £1million per min on Saturday?!!!!!

or lose 90 million in a second if Cov score but that wont happen. Very confident about Saturday and my nerves have now turned into excitement. Can't wait!!!!

My nerves are up and down like a whores knickers but i am starting to feel more confident as the game draws nearer, but then again i felt like this before the Pompey game,i was so sure we were going to

beat them and that went tits up,a Pompey side that lost to Coventry a few weeks earlier.I'm sure we are going to do it,cant wait.

I think he may be on the bench.

Richardson in for Butterfield, Schneiderlin in for Hammond, Chaplow injured so Guly Do Prado to start. With Bialkowski, Martin, Hammond, De Ridder, Barnard on the bench.

That would be my starting line up, but what do I know
