david in sweden Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 (edited) Taking a quick look back to all those names that flew around early season (and we didn't buy) I thought I 'd see what they got up to... Craig Machail-Smith (from P'boro to Brighton) fee £2.5 -3.25 mill. to date 9 goals in 35 games Jermaine Beckford (Everton to Leicester) £2.5 ? to date 8 goals in 33 games Lukas Jutkiewicz (Coventry to Middboro) £1.3 to date 2 goals in 13 games Nicky Maynard (Bristol City to WHam) £5 mill.? to date 2 goals in 13 games Sam Baldock (MKDons ? -WHam) £ ?????? to date 5 goals in 21 games which makes : Billy Sharp (Doncaster to SAINTS) £1.8 mill to date 7 goals in 13 games .....look like quite a good deal. The ones who stayed: Rhodes (still at Huddersfield) unlikely to get up to Npc AGAIN! (tough on them) has managed 36 goals so far. Jay Rodrigues has scored 17 goals for Burnley (but has an unimpressive 31 goals in 104 games career figs. (very average strike rate). Gary Hooper (Celtic) has scored 18 times in 32 games Let's see who we go for in the summer! Edited 20 April, 2012 by david in sweden
trousers Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Before I commit myself, can someone kindly remind me what the sanctions are for mentioning 'Skacel' on post no.2 of a thread? Thanks

Turkish Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Antonio. Hero worshipped by some on here but no where near good enough for us this season or in the premier league.
Ohio Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 It's impossible to say what any of these players might have been doing for Saints when they were got up to our standard fitness and gelled into our squad properly. Look at the turnaround Sharp has made since his earlier games for us. He could have easily just continued that way without good fitness and man management.
david in sweden Posted 20 April, 2012 Author Posted 20 April, 2012 Micheal Owen was that a serious thread or just someone's idea of a fun " space -filler " in the Sun football column?
once_bitterne Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Baldock is a quality player, luckily for us, Fat Sam refuses to play him as he is likely to score a goal.
Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Any of the players listed might or might not have performed better in a structure like ours. We're a good side, can't be said for a lot of those others.
Thedelldays Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 the two strikers at West ham are just being wasted.....
Ohio Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 was that a serious thread or just someone's idea of a fun " space -filler " in the Sun football column? Like most of during this testing time, we just need something to see us through until Saturday. So yeah, space filler.
Raging Bull Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Alex Pearce. Really not that great after all certainly not a £5 mill CB.
gaz Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Kieron Dyer was seriously mentioned when were in the CCC last time, though that worked out well for him.
scotty Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 the two strikers at West ham are just being wasted..... ......fortunately.
Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 He scored but it was disallowed Team mate holding the keeper down apparently
saints-cris Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Alex Pearce. Really not that great after all certainly not a £5 mill CB. Do you mean Matt Mills? Bit harsh on Baldock and Manyard. Both very good, just utterly wasted at West Ham
Turkish Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Do you mean Matt Mills? Bit harsh on Baldock and Manyard. Both very good, just utterly wasted at West Ham I agree, Maynard has looked a top player at times for West Ham, he definitely went to the wrong club. Still West Ham will be flogging him off cheap when they dont go up.

Turkish Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Kieron Dyer was seriously mentioned when were in the CCC last time, though that worked out well for him. UNbelivable that any club would sign him with his injury record and pay demands, isn't he meant to be on £60k a week at QPR? He's hardly played in about 8 seasons.
Thedelldays Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 hcdajfu. Definitely. Maynard Noble Moses Curtis Davies Clyne job done
Turkish Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Maynard Noble Moses Curtis Davies Clyne job done FACT. Agree with all that.
ThreeSixty Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 You can't really say with any conviction that these players wouldn't have done well with us.
Ohio Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 This forum uses a new definition of the word "Fact" that I am unfamiliar with.
Professor Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 My BHA supporting friends are very disapointed in CMS. I'd have been quite happy if we had signed him last August as he looked so good at Posh. Maybe he would have done better here than he has at Brighton, but its not as if he's been playing in a really poor team since Brighton have scored over 50 goals. Its just that not many of them by have been by Craig. A good one to have avoided.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 This forum uses a new definition of the word "Fact" that I am unfamiliar with. Idiot! everybody knows that fact means in my opinion, when I think that all that matters is my opinion so you should too. Ergo it becomes fact or it bloody well should do anyway as I am all that matters.
View From The Top Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I'm led to believe that JR will be at Saints next season with one of our current CM going the other way as part of a £5m deal.

beatlesaint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Antonio. Hero worshipped by some on here but no where near good enough for us this season or in the premier league. You cant possibly say that cos you just dont know what Adkins and his coaching staff might have done to turn a raw 18 year old into a bloody fine player. He was good for us, better than he has been anywhere else. Coincidence or not ? Who knows but I just dont understand this mentality that slags him off whenever possible. Have a look at the JPT Final DVD again ;-)
SaintSteve Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 FACT. Agree with all that. We won't get Moses and the rest are average at best. I think Butterfield and Rodriques are high on our list..
Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 (edited) hammond, cork or morgan....hmmmmm who would it be.. not a chance in hell it would be morgan and cork is pretty darn good and a NA signing.. ummmmm Well you can count Morgan out, he won't go to Burnley that's a FACT. No doubt he wants to stay with us but if we tried to sell him to a drosspile like Burnley he'd go to Villa or Rennes or Lille or one of the other clubs that have enquired about him. Can't see it being Cork either. Having said that if we signed JRod that would leave us with an impressive pile of strikers for next season, unless we're going to convert Tad into something else. saintbob40 Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 He scored but it was disallowed .......who got the assist?
View From The Top Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 It's not Cork or Morgan so whom could it be? Crikey, this is a hard one.
Thedelldays Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 It's not Cork or Morgan so whom could it be? Crikey, this is a hard one. does said player want to stay here..? which I'm sure..... would also suggest we would be in the hunt for a replacement in that position. how do you think JR would get on here and how we seem to make players better etc.. can't say I have seen much of him but he is young and scores goals
Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 does said player want to stay here..? which I'm sure..... could depend if he wants Premier League player status for the first time in his career or if he wants to play football.

sotonjoe Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Is this another thread about Middlesbrough tickets?

eesti matty Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I remember that back in 99 we tried to sign David Wetherall from Leeds. He was reluctant to move down from the north and opted to join Bradford. We then signed Dean Richards instead and he gave us two seasons good service and we made a tidy profit out of him. It's a real shame what happened to him. Also, I remember when we nearly signed a guy called Matt Piper from Leicester? He joined Sunderland, but then had to retire because of injury.
