The9 Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Pretty simple question, the non-striped mainly white sash kit from the Anniversary season was (apparently) the best selling Saints shirt ever so there's obviously a market for something different, we wore plain red in the late 80s, as well as the Denmark halved/stripe thing. We're still under relatively new ownership and the future is looking good on the pitch, plus there's only one year of the Umbro deal left, so if the management wanted to change us from stripes to, say, the sash, or maybe plain red shirts again how would you feel about it ? A poll might be an idea mods ? : Always, ALWAYS Stripes Predominantly plain red Predominantly plain white Red/white Other (eg halves/quarters) New start, new colours. To those on the St Mary's Expansion thread : You were warned
Mattio Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I've always liked this kit, it's also a little bit different to other premership clubs and stops the comparisons to Stoke and Sunderland.
Katalinic Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I predict something radical to maximise shirt sales - the club won't want "returning" fans to just use their striped shirts from yesteryear.
SO16_Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 whatever the design, it has already been decided and is in production. FACT
Son of Bob Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I predict a modern interpretation of this for our next kit;
Steeleye Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Wouldn't want plain red because of Arsenal, ManU Liverpool etc. Really like the Denmark halves shirt – I bought one a couple of years ago as a retro, so I wouldn't need to buy a new one! It would always need to have mainly red, with white and black though - can't imagine a change to a completely different colour. I wasn't particularly keen on the sash - it was OK for one season but there was too much confusion when the crowd sang Come On You Reds and the opposition had more red on than we did! Perhaps wider stripes than Stoke or Sunderland would work.
alpine_saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 bored, bored, bored with stripes, and do not like the current one at all. Would like one of the following: Another sash design (but not white shorts) the quarters we used at the beginning of the 20th century A modern-day Patrick/Rank Xerox get-up. Maybe one of the reasons for the popularity of the sash was lack of sponsorship logo ?
This Charming Man Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I just read the first sentence then stopped as I was bored. To save me reading any further, is he just going to start posting rubbish drawings of kits again?
Turkish Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I just read the first sentence then stopped as I was bored. To save me reading any further, is he just going to start posting rubbish drawings of kits again? In a thread that will go on and on and on until the new kit comes out in July, which will be stripes.
Colinjb Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I've always liked this kit, it's also a little bit different to other premership clubs and stops the comparisons to Stoke and Sunderland. This x A Million
doggface Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I think umbro would do a great job with the quarters. I expect 100% stripes
Saint 76er Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I've always liked this kit, it's also a little bit different to other premership clubs and stops the comparisons to Stoke and Sunderland. This for me too! We always looked great in this kit in the Keegan era, it was like a kit ahead of it's time. Critically, it stood out as being exclusively (I think) Saints and it was great to have our own identity, especially at a time we had such standout players. Whilst the stripes are a club tradition, they do lump us along with Stoke/Sunderland etc and we hope to be in the same league as them two shortly, so want to look different really. As someone said though, fact is the new kit is probably in production now in some Asian sweatshop ... and betting is it will be regulation stripes again!!
Tokyo-Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Whatever the outfield players wear, the goalkeeper top should be orange.
rooney Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I predict something radical to maximise shirt sales - the club won't want "returning" fans to just use their striped shirts from yesteryear. You predicted correct with change kit last time, give us a taster of your thoughts!
Katalinic Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 You predicted correct with change kit last time, give us a taster of your thoughts! Probably not a good idea given what happened to that Norwich fan the other day.
sotonjoe Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 If they want to shift more shirts they need to get fan representatives onboard from the sorts of people who wouldn't usually wear replica shirts. I'm sure Turkish could make some helpful suggestions about how to make it look a lot more urban and suitable for your average geezer. Perhaps they could take the club crest and make it so that you could attach or detach it on a whim using a button.
Dearne Valley Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I've always liked this kit, it's also a little bit different to other premership clubs and stops the comparisons to Stoke and Sunderland. This x 7 million. The perfect season for it (if we are promoted of course)
sussexsaint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Always liked the air Florida kit, up there with the rank xerox one , I did really really like the sash and I hope we get it on an away kit one day
Whitey Grandad Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 whatever the design, it has already been decided and is in production. FACT But with which logo? Barclay's Premiership or whoever sponsors the Championship? For the life of me I couldn't tell you who that is.
djharvey Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Whatever the outfield players wear, the goalkeeper top should be orange. I see what you did there!
stockportsaint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 I've always liked this kit, it's also a little bit different to other premership clubs and stops the comparisons to Stoke and Sunderland. my fave too. inverse Ajax. nothing else like it out there.
SO16_Saint Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 But with which logo? Barclay's Premiership or whoever sponsors the Championship? For the life of me I couldn't tell you who that is. I've a feeling it'll be different. Will find out on July 1 whatever
Manuel Posted 20 April, 2012 Posted 20 April, 2012 Na na na na na na na na na na na, I like this one best, this one best, I like this one best.
The9 Posted 21 April, 2012 Author Posted 21 April, 2012 I predict something radical to maximise shirt sales - the club won't want "returning" fans to just use their striped shirts from yesteryear. Subtle?
The9 Posted 21 April, 2012 Author Posted 21 April, 2012 I won't be posting any mock ups this year, no need. It's so clearly and obviously going to be stripes... *cough*.
sotonjoe Posted 21 April, 2012 Posted 21 April, 2012 It would be nice if we could consistently have kits that weren't glaringly ripped from template kits, or at least ones from templates that weren't widely used. I know our kit from last season was template based but at least it had been tweaked to make it seem different. I accept that taking the sponsor off had a big effect in this regard though.
The9 Posted 21 April, 2012 Author Posted 21 April, 2012 Just for the record, I'm not sure why the fact its already being / been made means no-one is supposed to discuss what it might look like. As for "I couldn't tell you who sponsors the nPower Championship... One other thing, asking non-kit wearers what they want the kit to look like gave you England's indigo (grey) away kit, and that hideous US star/denim effort in 1994.
The9 Posted 21 April, 2012 Author Posted 21 April, 2012 Sorry, duplicate due to crap mobile connection on the M1...

Glad we've got Umbro, they make more effort than Nike and adidas with variations on templates. Bilbao aside, nothing looks like Saints this season, nothing looked like the Umbro flybe and the sash was unique as the sash went the other way on their teamwear kits.
Super_Saint Posted 21 April, 2012 Posted 21 April, 2012 I would like something unique, that no other Premier League team has. The Air Florida kit we previously had looked good. Although I'm sure a lot of fans would moan at not having stripes.
xerox Posted 21 April, 2012 Posted 21 April, 2012 keep the stripes but return to navy blue shorts to make us i bit different?
Saint-Fred Posted 21 April, 2012 Posted 21 April, 2012 I've always liked this kit, it's also a little bit different to other premership clubs and stops the comparisons to Stoke and Sunderland. My vote would go to this..my favourite kit ever!
Chin Strain Posted 21 April, 2012 Posted 21 April, 2012 Sorry, stupid question...is it annual kit changes under this contract? Home and away both being changed every year?

And personally I think the Umbro kits do look a bit classier than the others.
paulwantsapint Posted 21 April, 2012 Posted 21 April, 2012 I would like to see quarters brought in like the final ever game at the dell it would be different to any other team in either league
Supersubpuckett Posted 21 April, 2012 Posted 21 April, 2012 early 80s Air Florida/Xerox kit please - harks back to our golden years in top flight and therefore appropriate IF we get promoted also agree, need to be different from those cloggers at stoke and sunderland

Rasiak-9- Posted 22 April, 2012 Posted 22 April, 2012 I'd quite like to see us with a modern Ajax-style kit. Similar to the Air Florida one but the other way round with white shorts and white socks.
Saint Martini Posted 22 April, 2012 Posted 22 April, 2012 I like the new Sweden shirt and wouldn't mind Southampton having a similar design with a white background and thin red stripes.
Robsk II Posted 22 April, 2012 Posted 22 April, 2012 Can't deviate completely from red and white to one or the other. I'd say there has to be a vaguely equal mix as a general rule, but am also more than happy to mix things up. Stripes shouldn't be forgotten, but certainly variations on a theme will make things more interesting year to year. Some of the 70s and 80s kits were fun, the sash was good.. but I can't see why we'd have a 'fresh start'. That's just.. odd.
The9 Posted 22 April, 2012 Author Posted 22 April, 2012 I like the new Sweden shirt and wouldn't mind Southampton having a similar design with a white background and thin red stripes. How about red background with thin white stripes though ?? I was having a look at this one in a sports shop in Leicester today, the "pinstripes" are actually pairs of pinstripes. Does that count as "stripes" if Saints wear that ? Notts County have something similar this season and it doesn't look "striped" from any kind of distance :
TijuanaTim Posted 23 April, 2012 Posted 23 April, 2012 Adidas...and just say 'no' to friggin' yellow.
Badger Posted 23 April, 2012 Posted 23 April, 2012 I like the new Sweden shirt and wouldn't mind Southampton having a similar design with a white background and thin red stripes. Sunderland had a kit you've described in the early 1980's , it was not that good to be honest.
