Middlesbrough 1,000 tickets left

I believe Charlton took around 6,000 to Boro for an important game a few years back and it was midweek as well. The fact we're struggling to shift 4,000 tickets for it is embarrassing. Look at Plymouth last year, people were paying silly money for tickets purely because it was a couple of hours on the rattler.

Our support really isn't all you lot make it out to be. I await the comments from the usual suspects who live in a world of blissful ignorance.

I'm more than happy with not selling out. Can hopefully move around and stand where we want, would rather have a couple of thousand away day regulars than loads jumping on the bandwagon, if others choose to miss out, it's their loss.

It is remarkable to think that as on TV at 5.20 that many people are still bothered by a trip to a wet Middlesbrough at Saturday tea time!

The fact is money is tight and priorities change - I'm fortunate enough to be able to fund my only hobby, and love the occassions. I wasn't going to go to Middlesbrough originally because I had decided to get down for the Coventry game.

But for all my "tightness" I have decided to go and give the boys one last shout away this season with a couple of thousand others, just to make the difference between getting the draw or a win. I am not contemplating losing or turning up like we did against Blackpool. Not my last game as I am still making Coventry.

Frankly speaking the away crowds have been fantastic all season, and the increase over the last couple of months is nothing short of spectacular, especially as I can remember being one of only 60-fans for a night game in the Saints end at Hillsborough in the early 80's.

Honestly I have no bone to pick with anyone who stays in Southampton (or anywhere else) to watch it on TV. I'm happy that they can get as much from it on the TV or laptop by streaming. I have done both with differing experiences - but I know I just want to have one of those "I was there" moments again. Just like at Orient last time, and Luton the week before that...it's something that lives with you forever. Somehow - "Yeah I remember that I was down the pub" doesn't cut it for me!

And I hope you enjoy it. I'd go, but I'm afraid I'll embarrass the 'proper' away fans by singing the wrong song, being middle-aged and enthusiastic, or god forbid, .... sitting down ..... or even ....eating a sandwich. Oh the shame!

Btw if anyone looks at the thread on away attendances and tries the link given http://www.footballforums.net/forums/showthread.php/277307-Championship-Away-Following-2011-12 they'll see that anything over 3000 will be the biggest away following by anyone this season at Middlesborough. Only the 2 Yorkshire clubs, Hull and Leeds ,for whom it is a local derby of sorts, have come anywhere near that. For a game live on TV at a bloody silly time, 6 hours drive away, I reckon that is actually pretty impressive.

good point they did, it was subsidised coach and rail though Charlton really made an effort for it being FA Cup 1/4 final.

Rationally speaking Peterborough was the one to go to wasn't it? I can see people want the party time but Tuesday put matters beyond reasonable doubt and I can understand some peoples reluctance to do a 9am-3/4am stint when, unlike Tuesday, the game is live on TV. I would actually be going but I have to work every other Saturday which is annoying, I'm barely going to make kick off on TV :(

for those saying can't afford it - here is a good option, can limit the day to match ticket, mini bus, couple of cans and a packed lunch.

Crazy. How many conflicting bits of information can come out of one place? I was stood right next to someone when they called the '0800' number from here at work at 4.45 yesterday and someone on the other end named Ben said between 300 and 350 left. Now I know you aint got to be a rocket scientist to work in the Ticket Office but the difference between "300" and "1000" isn't exactly close. Do they just pluck a figure out of the air?

Costs is merely just a convenient excuse. If it was in London, we would sell 10k plus tickets for it with most going on the lash all day long spending well over £100 in the process. This day out can be done for well under that. As other's have already said on here "it's just too much hassle". Their loss...

It's up to the individual though, isn't it? I think anything over 3,000 would be a good turnout quite honestly. I wouldn't blame people for putting other priorities first. It all depends what age you are and on your status - if you are young, have no responsibilities, and want to go on the lash, then you should make an effort to go. 1978 at Orient was during the week, 15,000 Saints fans turned up, and it was an absolutely magical night. But then again, I was only 14, it wasn't on the box, and it was a different era. The 3,000+ plus will do us proud, and more importantly, they will be rewarded with some great memories. Priceless. The most important thing is that the team's performance rewards those that are going - not the other way around.

Trying all sorts to try and get to this game, I've little left till end of month, and without car on Saturday, trying to get some additional funds for ticket tomorrow to ensure I'm covered for rest of the month then just to sort out how to get there in less than 12 hours after I get ticket. Hoping to get something sorted!!

If you're struggling with transport it's worth giving this guy a call, he runs 'Saints Away Travel'. He picks up on the Waterside, Totton, So'ton city centre, Eastleigh and Winchester. He's had luxury double-deckers for recent trips so if you're unfortunate enough to have to travel by coach this has got to be a lot better than the Bingo-Buses.

I hope so.....unless there are just the three of us with Saints goggles on.

It's very backwards. Hope you enjoy it, but not sure I would go there again, when Sheffield is only a few miles up the road. Depends what you're looking for I suppose. If saints win then anywhere's going to be class.

We are going to take photos of the crooked spire before settling down for 9 hours kip in our nice hotel rooms ;)

I doubt we will get to Sheffield unless we bribe the driver big time. Any recommendations (for a decent pint that is)?

Meant to be a top night out to be fair.

Don't know where you have heard that from. In my experience it's just another typical small northern ex-industrial town with a small-town attitude and no redeeming features IMO.

It's known as Ches Vegas around here - owing to it's vulgarity and lack of any class.

Chesterfield is ****e. Sheffield is far better, very surprised you went for Chesterfield !
I think the criteria at the time was to stay somewhere that was not too far from Middlesbrough and not too far from Southampton. In hindsight Sheffield may have been a better bet. Never mind - we will make the most of it anyway.

You should have gone to York or Harrogate. Harrogate is a nice town full of posh northern birds with a bit of cash and decent pubs and bars, my sort of place. York is just a good place.
