I’m really surprised by this – thought we would sell our allocation (4,000) easy

Our average away following has been over 2,300 this year and this is our BIGGEST game for years.

Appreciate the distance but come on – this is embarrassing!

Where are you Saints fans?

Are you going then?

Are you sure that figure is correct? Yesterday it was 350, earlier it was 800 and now it seems to be between 1,000 and 1,500

Called the ticket office to buy another ticket - guy said there is just over 1,000 left! That was at 12:05 today

Said he would be very very surpried now if we sold out - tickets will be availble on the day he thinks

To be fair, I think most people that are going would have got their tickets by now, maybe 100 or so max that would make a last minute decision to do it.

Yeah I somehow doubt that many people are in a position to just head 350 miles north at the drop of a hat

It is remarkable to think that as on TV at 5.20 that many people are still bothered by a trip to a wet Middlesbrough at Saturday tea time!

The fact is money is tight and priorities change - I'm fortunate enough to be able to fund my only hobby, and love the occassions. I wasn't going to go to Middlesbrough originally because I had decided to get down for the Coventry game.

But for all my "tightness" I have decided to go and give the boys one last shout away this season with a couple of thousand others, just to make the difference between getting the draw or a win. I am not contemplating losing or turning up like we did against Blackpool. Not my last game as I am still making Coventry.

Frankly speaking the away crowds have been fantastic all season, and the increase over the last couple of months is nothing short of spectacular, especially as I can remember being one of only 60-fans for a night game in the Saints end at Hillsborough in the early 80's.

Honestly I have no bone to pick with anyone who stays in Southampton (or anywhere else) to watch it on TV. I'm happy that they can get as much from it on the TV or laptop by streaming. I have done both with differing experiences - but I know I just want to have one of those "I was there" moments again. Just like at Orient last time, and Luton the week before that...it's something that lives with you forever. Somehow - "Yeah I remember that I was down the pub" doesn't cut it for me!

I simply can't afford it. Spent over £200 on away games over the last week. Can't justify another £60 on petrol, £50 on hotel, and £30 on ticket before food, beer etc. when it's on the telly. 3000 is bloody good for a north away game on the box.

£30 for a ticket, take a packed lunch, car share 4 x £15 each. You'll need £50 tops.

3,000 tickets sold for m'boro is far from embarrassing even given the importance of the game.

i think quite a few people will get tickets tomorrow being a friday, I think we will take around 3,500 fans which to me is a good turn out given the distance and cost of getting there.

3.500 fans will make a big noise @ the riverside as boro fans are very quiet and always turn out in low numbers there.

I still think taking 3000 to Middlesbrough for what is a tv game, is pretty good, irrespective of the nature of it.

depends by which standards you set it by. Newcastle got promoted away to Plymouth on a monday night, still sold out easily.

I would love to go as most would, but we went to Posh and Palace, I have been commuting to work all week and its just the sheer amount of time spent on the road in the last 2 weeks! Sad to say though if it was not on the TV.....then a different story perhaps?

one thing that saints have never been good at doing is organising ourselves as fans to get across the country. i know lads who follow many other teams, spurs for example have a good history of pubs organising unofficial coaches but they probably have more of a drinking culture than saints where certain pubs are "football" pubs. if a few more entreprenuers have got groups of mates together, booked a coach firm, smuggled a few bottles of pop onboard, you're laughing and not too expensive either.

all about having enough get up and go.

Lets see.. Mortgage... Yep. Gas bill.... Yep. Electricity bill.... Yep Rates....Yep. Fuel bills astronomic.... Yep. Live on TV... Yep. Weather cold and wet... Yep.

I am pleasantly surprised 3000 odd are going but hats off to them. Despite being the (again) biggest game of the season.

I would love to go but I have work at 7am on Sunday, and the last train from Boro gets into Southampton at 1.20am and leaves Boro at 6.20pm (halfway through the match). Not a practical one for me, but I shall be in the pub watching hopefully with hundreds more Saints fans.

That's so true. I can still see Terry Paine heading that goal at Brisbane Road nearly 50 years ago.

But Spurs have a 'laddish' following. Ours is full of elderly people and middle-aged drips who would never dream of doing something like that.

I believe Charlton took around 6,000 to Boro for an important game a few years back and it was midweek as well. The fact we're struggling to shift 4,000 tickets for it is embarrassing. Look at Plymouth last year, people were paying silly money for tickets purely because it was a couple of hours on the rattler.

Our support really isn't all you lot make it out to be. I await the comments from the usual suspects who live in a world of blissful ignorance.

I think 3000 odd is a great following myself.

Rubbish. But I am quite happy we get some mixed away fans, including families, middle aged women and elderly folk. Good on all of them

My sentiments exactly. You don't get to witness these sort of things first hand very often. I was at Luton and Orient that year. Can even remember getting hit in the eye by a sugar cube on the coach coming home from Luton, and seeing an old lady on the pavement (who looked like my recently deceased nan) waving at us before some bloke behind me gobbed at her out of the window. Then there was the wall collapsing at Orient.......great memories :)

Yes but Charlton put on free travel for the fans... If saints did the same we would get more ppl up there...
