I would echo a lot of people and say:

However, we'll be bent over for a fee on Phillips, and most likely bent over for wages on Whittingham. Anyone thought why no-one's bought him the last few seasons, despite bagging double figures from midfield? He's got to be on Prem wages, and doesn't actually care about moving. Not sure I'd want to be paying him £30k+ a week. I see some have mentioned Zaha, I thought Palace turned down £7m from Bolton in Jan! He can't be worth that...

 

Saying all this, it is a balancing act getting quality in and getting value for money. Swansea and Norwich managed it. Norwich even managed to get two players out of League 1 last season, but can't see that happening this season...

M Phillips - his pace would be a great asset especially away from home

C Davies - probably thinks of himself as a Premier League player and will be looking to make a point

J Mutch - a lot of potential

 

Can't see why anyone would mention Rob Green. He is distinctly average and prone to make howlers, plus he'll be on big wages.

Although I think there are some excellent players in the Championship, I don't think we would want more than a couple, as I don't think we will make wholesale changes and I would hope we would be looking higher than the championship for them. It's going to be really interesting to see how much of a "warchest" we have actually got. So...saying that I'd be looking for a quality midfielder - Whittingham? and maybe someone with pace who would be happy to spend most of the season on the bench and get some use as an impact player... I don't think our current impact players are going to make the grade.

With Wolves heading in the opposite direction I'd like to see us make a move for Jamie O'Hara. I know he was on loan with the ****e down the road but I saw him play for Spurs a couple of times and he looked really useful. If anyone can get him back on track then it'd be our Nige.

For me I'd go for...

 

Curtis Davies- Have concerns over Fonte (also think we need a right back) doing a really top job in the Prem, despite all he has achieved for us over the last couple of years. Davies looked like a future England player in his younger days, stalled a bit but looks well back on track at Brum. Quick, good in the air, decent distribution and doesn't make too many mistakes. He's a real leader too.

Adam Clayton- Think we need a bit more in centre mid in the Prem, an all rounder to compliment Morgan/Cork in protecting the defence and building attacks. Would fit in well with the MODERN midfield hardman that so many on here were crying out for. He gets stuck in, wins the ball and doesn't shirk a tackle (look at his bookings count- the main downside really) but also has bags of quality on the ball. I've been really impressed with him when I've seen him play, he can dictate play, hit a pass, plays with his brain and is all round quality really. Maybe a little bit defensive for what we need but I think he has the ability to attack if given license and certainly would set up attacks nicely. A poor man's Xabi Alonso.

Vicente/Burke- As much as I think we need another striker I think a wide right midfielder is our number one priority. Burke has done a good job and I don't think we should let age be a barrier in the first few Prem seasons- need good performers no matter what their age. Burke is maybe a little slow but again a very clever player who has lots of end product. I think Vicente is class but not sure if we want such a left footed player on the right. If we're happy with that and can keep him fit I think he'd be worth a punt as a signing, if not someone to rely on.

 

That just leaves us to pick up Van Persie on the cheap as our new front man to go with these three.

Green is very similar to Kelvin IMO. Usually both good shot stoppers, capable of some consistency but too many weaknesses to be top keepers. Green just got luckier getting more top flight time and therefore England caps but he's nothing special at all.

Totally unconcerned, don't think we'll be recruiting in the NPC anyway.If we were going to do that we'd have done it in January instead of waiting until we're a bagsofcash EPL side.Surprised if we recruit more than 1 player from a Championship side.

 

Think we might go for that Dobbie if Blackpool don't go up and take him on a permanent though.

kiss of death here but I got the impression that Steel was very average when I have seen him. Schmeichel had a good game against us at their place but hasn't been great this season or last. My favoured keeper would be Craig Gordon who I think is better than the championship keepers.

 

Majewski has had a terrible season as has McGugan. Both have hardly played under two managers. The latter is good when he's good but terrible when he's not. I'm not sure the former is all that. Miller is always injured. Always. Looked great against us, but then got injured. He's cost them a fortune in wages and got little return. Massive gamble.

 

Clayton is OK, but Mutch is a better player. Mind you wave a fiver at Bates and he'd probably sell him. Brum will be desperate to sell should they not go up. They are the side to raid.
