Griffo Posted 20 April, 2012 Share Posted 20 April, 2012 Yeah, congratulations Reading on having a stadium half empty and only sell out by attracting local fans of top 4 clubs to go and watch you when things start to go well. Congratulations on having a support consisting of saps and shirters. Congratulations on having the worst support in the football league. Congratulations on having a drum and a trumpet and congratulations on being so very tinpot.

Griffo Posted 20 April, 2012 Share Posted 20 April, 2012 (edited) I think a final at Wembley is much more likely to attract fans of that ilk with half of them not being regulars at all. Your support is like that constantly though. But you knew that anyway. Edited 20 April, 2012 by Griffo
Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2012 Share Posted 20 April, 2012 Impressive run they've had and fair play for that. Nice short trip next season too. And very practical too, flight Lyon-Heathrow,Railair bus to the Madj, takes just about 4.5 hours from home.Did it this season, stayed at my old aunt's in Wimbledon afterwards.Cheapest Saints watching trip for years.Think I had plenty left from £200 which is good cos I can go more often then. Thedelldays Posted 20 April, 2012 Share Posted 20 April, 2012 I don't mind reading...another team in the region doing well....will replace a northern club in the prem no doubt. what I find interesting is how they will do in the prem...against half decent sides in the NPC, they have to put up a real rear guard action and concede 20 chances at least per game and hit teams on the break that tactic will get you murdered in the prem....no doubt Brian Mc-d is a good manager so I will assume he will alter this tactic or it will be thanks for coming and down again

Reading is 45miles away. The only reason people can try and suggest that they are a 'local' club is because there are so few professional clubs of any significant stature in the South of England. I don't see any reason why people in Southampton should think that Reading's promotion is indirectly beneficial to us which is what you're implying. Your support is like that constantly though. But you knew that anyway. How come you know so much about our support? I know literally nothing about your fans, but then I would only visit SMS once a year, max. Mind you, having the "worst" support in the League only gave a handful of our fans the chance to celebrate 3 shots and 3 goals at your gaffe, together with spotting approx. two-thirds of your support wearing stripey shirts in another of your cup-finals. How many do you normally get, then? 15k? 16k? I don't know, I've never looked it up.

Colinjb Posted 20 April, 2012 Share Posted 20 April, 2012 Club size doesn't matter, they've had a great season where it matters, on the pitch. Good luck to them next season and I hope we join them soon. I was truly stunned by how hostile a minority of their fans were in Southampton last Friday. What the f@@k was that about!? In my opinion it's good to see another relatively local side do well.

Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2012 Share Posted 20 April, 2012 I'd think that there would be a net diminution of the average mileage to reach away games next season. Newcastle would be the furthest,Reading the closest and then there's somewhere from 4 to 6 London games instead of this year's 3. No doubt the OS will work it out for us when the compo of next year's EPL is known.

sotonjoe Posted 20 April, 2012 Share Posted 20 April, 2012 Wooooooooosh Not woosh, it was just a stupid comparison. What is the link between not going to an away game at the other end of the country and not going to a home game? Surely the comparison should be made with Coventry next week

positivepete Posted 21 April, 2012 Share Posted 21 April, 2012 On a more reasoned note, the secret footballer column this week is interesting. It sums up the difference between Reading and West Ham, and without mentioning us by name indicates why we have also been successful this season. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/apr/20/promotion-team-fight-every-inch
