Middlesbrough v Saints build-up thread

No chance. We're still going for the title.

At the moment we are, depends on our result against Boro. I'd love us to beat Boro and go into the last game with a shot at the title though. We'll be wishing Birmingham all the best!

Last 8 they have W1 D5 L2 (17th in table form wise)

run out of puff then, seems to be happening to a lot of sides;plenty of matches and not enough players available would be my guess, sides no doubt having to resort to youngsters for the league, something that we've not had to do.

Reading's next opponents CP are 18th in the form table :s If we are to win the title, (seems less important now we're in second somehow :) ) I have a horrible suspicion it'll go down to the last day.

Yep some sides lost form at the worst time - the likes of Hull, Leeds, Brighton and Boro have been around the top 6 all season but blew it when it counted.

So are we all agreed?

Promotion is not mathematically certain yet but will become certain if we win at Middlesborough.

A draw on Saturday does not make it certain because we could lose our last game against Coventry whilst Wet Spam could win their last two games. If these four results brought about a net GD change of 6 goals in WHU's favour, we would finish 3rd.

The title is still achievable if we win our last two games and Reading lose one of theirs.

One other thought - Regardless of what Reading do on Saturday, if we win away Middlesborough, the title will depend on the last day results, Saints v Coventry and Brum v Reading. Will the Football League have the Trophy at a hotel near Oxford and a fast car to head off north or south as soon as the outcome looks certain? Or will there be a replica trophy at both grounds?

I think that it is slightly worse than that. If we draw one , lose one, W.Ham only have to get a net gain of 5 goals, not 6, because if we are equal on goal diff , then goals scored count. At the moment I think we have scored only 3 more than them, so if we drew and they won 2 more, they'd presumably end up having scored more than us. So in short if we only get one point from the 2 remaining games then our goal difference must worsen by at least 1, and W.Ham might only have to win by 2 nil each game. And if our defeat was by more than the odd goal......

So if it's all the same to you I'd rather we won at Boro ;)

Not if we had a high scoring draw.

Wham are advertising play off tickets already lol

normal cos they're already in them, they're just being realistic, they won't make up 5 points and a few goals in 2 games when we have Coventry at home to play.Might as well just get on with it.Play-offs are Thurs and Fri after the end of the season so it's better for them to get on with it now.

It would seem to affect the sides that come down from the Prem more (just a gut feel on my part). Less games in the Prem etc. Its a tough season in the Championship.

Blackpool and Birmingham seem to be coping and as we know West Ham have more players than the other 23 NPC sides put together. No it's Peterborough,Brighton and Palace and Middlesbrough that seem to be struggling, Leicester a bit as well even Hull maybe.

Hasn't Fergie junior recently said that this season has been a bit too long for his small squad?

I want them to get to the final, just so their fans start to think the playoffs aren't so bad after all, then have the bitter disappointment of screwing up just 1 game at Wembley. On penalties hopefully. Classic.

If it goes to penalties West Ham will win given the amount of practice that they've had this season.

yeah... I will be glued to them..much like last season

will hope very much that west ham screw it up

WHU do themselves no favours - from owners thru to fans they are arrogant, expectant and dillusional!

I would like Cardiff to get promoted - been so close so many times, they deserve it! + Brum, Blackpool and WH have all had prem football recently

Don't know about you but assuming we go up automatically - and let's not count chickens (control the controllerballs, etc) - but I want the worst team in the play-offs to get promoted so that we can hammer them twice next season!

I no longer care what any of the permutations are or where we finish, just as long as we get this season over with as quickly as possible regarding promotion. It's all that matters to me now after all these ups and downs.

And the Tramps in your neighbourhood will be able to Doss without the worry of being combusted! LOL

Hi guys, I don't post very often, well hardly at all. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the Middlesbrough game Saturday

As I have family commitments. I did go to Peterborough, and glad I did. The boys done us proud as I'm sure they will Saturday.

I wish all the fans going up a great time, and hope and pray that it's a promotional party at the end of it. Coyr.

What I wanted to add was, my sixteen year old and a couple of his friends came up with a (I think) a great little song for the

Saints fans to sing, either Saturday or even for the Coventry game.

It goes like this:

I'm Southampton 'til I die,

You're Pompey 'til July,

We're going up,

You're going down,

Now **** off and goodbye.

Have a great game guys. Coyr

I'd like to suggest Winchester would be the fairest place to house it on the day, and I offer my lounge, on the coffee table, whilst games are in progress. Happy to do a skype interview as part of the build up, and have men in white gloves guarding the trophy until it is whisked off to Reading, or hopefully, Southampton.

A Boro fan on that board pointed out that we would (apparently) be the first team to do the double over Boro IF we were to win.

We've got quite a few doubles this season. Foxes and Bristol are the only 2 against (and looking at the bottom of the league, the latter is really quite funny). So far we've done the double over Posh, Leeds, Barnsley, Palace, Hull, Millwall, Watford, Forest and could still do the double over Boro and Coventry. That could potentially be 10 teams we've beaten home and away this year. Even Man Utd can't boast that most seasons.

Plenty of tickets available still - waiting list for official coach being taken - need 30 more people to fill it or else I won't be able to go!!

Come on, swallow your pride and go by coach, its not as bad as you think.

Call the TO on 02380 711912 as quick as you can (by lunchtime today) to book your seat for the tastiest match of the season so far................

I have my ticket for boro ( well I collect at the the riverside) still about 800 left but they are expecting to sell out.

All I need is to set out on my long marathon journey to get there

Fair play to you. That's proper support unlike the plastic tw*ts that can't be bothered as it's on the TV.

See you up there.
