Middlesbrough v Saints build-up thread

A draw should be enough, and maybe we won't need ANY more points. But lets be positive. Let's go and win and do this in some style.

Besides, the title might still be possible, and I don't want us giving up on that until that's mathematically impossible.

I have been looking forward to this match all season as I do a lot of work in Middlesbrough and have a lot of Boro supporting friends. A few weeks ago I realised that it could potentially be the match in which we are promoted. Unbelievably, that still looks a huge possibility!!

Also, I am taking my daughter along and it will be her first ever 'proper' game (she's been previously to a pre-season friendly).

I am absolutely buzzing about being at this match!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Incidentally, with Reading already promoted and with them facing Brum in their last match, we could still go on to be champions if we win our last two!!! COYR!!!

Lets be smart; a draw is ok too.

Main thing is not to lose. We don't want to go into that Coventry game needing a win to guaruntee it because in a match with nothing riding on it, I can easily see West Ham repeating their performance against Brighton when playing Hull on the final day and a draw being no good.

Don't subscribe to this 1 point to go theory. Us losing a game and West Ham winning two could easily see the goal difference wiped out. Would only take us losing by two and West Ham winning both by two. (or maybe that's just my pessimistic inner Saints fan talking!)

Boro drew 0-0 at home with Doncaster tonight.

They are 4 points outside the playoffs.

They play last on saturday obviously, but before they play it could be all over. Cardiff are at home to Leeds and Blackpool are at home to Burnley. Brum are away @ Brighton, so you'd expect it to be all over tbh.

(they also have a worse GD than any of the top 6, -15 goals in most cases)

Exactly my thinking. Control the controllables. Win our game, nothing else matters.

Whatever happens West Ham have to win both their remaining games to have any chance at all. Saints can put the matter beyond doubt on Saturday evening though and that's what I'd expect them to go for. I really do not want the matter to be unresolved on the last day thank you.

I keep meaning to ask you, do you know someone called Paul Temperley? He's my mates cousin and i'm sure he lived or lives in Hurworth.

Even if we are promoted Saturday the final day will still be stressful as we push for the title.

That's a whole different kind of stress, and frankly, bring it on.

Back to Boro, I also don't buy this whole 'they might have nothing to play for, which would be great' thing. I don't think it'll matter either way particularly, and they may be more intent on spoiling our party if theirs has just been pooped.

Sorry - I don't think I do - not by name anyway. I don't know a huge number of people in the village and it's quite a large village. Most of the people I know either live on the same street or have kids in the primary school and/or nursery that my daughters attend.

Is he a Saints fan? If so, tell him to join Northern Saints (http://www.northernsaints.co.uk). They get block booking of tickets through the club and we all meet up before games, etc. It's well worth it for getting to know fellow Saints fans and it can save a bit of money in terms of booking fees, etc. which are divided between all who book tickets. Sometimes theer is a small subscription fee for the season, though they didn't charge anything this season as there was plenty of money in the pot! There are a couple of us in Darlington! :)

Wise words. Let's just get the job done properly so we don't have to worry about this.

Can't wait for this one. Would love the 3 points to seal promotion and keep the pressure on Reading. It's going to cost a fortune - 2 nights out in Newcastle and a sh*tload on fuel/hotels/beer.

Hoping the skates get finished off on Saturday as well. F*ck me I'm excited!
