I have often lay awake at night with those exact same thoughts. Nothing clever about what he says, just that he has a load of sycophants sat around him.

He is an entertainer scientist.

All that '1% cleverer than chimps' and the only difference (his example) is the hubble telescope and Steven Hawkin being our earth ambassador is quite frankly silly. The point I would make to him is that it is OUR UNDERSTANDING that there is only 1% difference, he bases the sum on the DNA ffs, we've only just discovered DNA so it's hardly a good nay reliable yardstick is it?

Or maybe that was his point and I'm just being thick...

I certainly agree with him regards the egocentricity and arrogance of humans in relation to their surroundings and in comparison to the other life forms around us. It doesn't always seem to be the case though, some societies manage(d) to live completely at one with their surroundings and other animals, so I don't think it's innately part of human character to think this way. Certainly though, the more people are educated about our surroundings; space/earth/nature/science the better, I'm pretty certain about that.

There is so much that we do not and may not ever know about humans and their optimum capabilities. I believe though that what is as we have developed in recent times so have those communities considered less intelligent ie tribal.

If for example a newborn baby was taken from a tribal community and nurtured from birth with the best opportunities available in the 'developed' world, I reckon there is a high possibility that they will succeed as 'one of us'. The same would apply in reverse.

My point is, that if humans have evolved this higher intelligence through learning and teaching, then does it not follow that that capacity has always been there. After all, left to their own devices a remote tribe may be centuries away from developing the iPad and that is only due to their lack of need and desire.

It is what drives us that interests me.

I know, I am rubbish at writing my thoughts down....I'll shut up now.
