It's my brothers wedding (which I'm best man for so probably can't really miss) during the semi-final second leg. And I'm going away on holiday the day before the final. All irrelevent of course, because we will go up automatically. (Please, Saints. Please. For me...)

COYR!

Bit sh*t that the away leg would be on a Thursday night, I swear they always used to be a weekend.

Not that we'll need them.

when we played Derby 1st leg at home was early ko on a sat, away was a wednesday i think, suppose the games will be on tv and therefore we won't win anyway

Think the times slightly favour the 6th placed team -going away for a night fixture has always felt tougher -from the atmosphere to the lower numbers an away team takes. By contrast, the 6th placed team plays the away leg at a reasonable time. Saying that, we've hardly benefited from evening fixtures at SMS this season.

I can see Thursday night away to f*cking Middlesbrough!!!

If it happens, this would suit me perfectly - I'm probably working in Newcastle or Leeds that week, so I'll only be an hour away if it comes to it. I'd have more chance of making it to Boro than Birmingham or Blackpool, or god forbid, Cardiff. Probably wouldn't suit more than about 20 other Saints fans though. Especially with us playing there next Saturday. Certainly don't think we'd sell the full 4,000 they could give us.

What are people doing booking holidays during the football season anyway. No sympathy for any of you should we finish 3rd.

Exactly. Well said sir. There were Saints fans who couldn't go to Cardiff in 2003 as they had holidays booked for Cup Final day - FFS. If you book holiday during the football season/playoffs/Euros/World Cup, don't start whinging if there are then games you can't make it to. As for people getting married on these dates, it should be illegal.

If we have to through the play offs ( I hope and think not) I will miss the final as Mr & Mrs T along with sons, daughter, son & daughter in laws will be up the Fjords on Ventura.

We're up the Baltic on Aurora. I would make the Thursday and the final though. Still, if you're trying to win a race you mustn't look over your shoulder.

After the feeling I had after both games against Derby, I never want to see or hear about Saints in the play-offs ever again. I've often thought it should be scrapped entirely, but they'd never do it as it's such a money spinner.

Having said that , think about the high of winning the final ! Still not sure why the winner gets a trophy though ?

Totally agree - yet another money making exercise at the expence of the fans. Ludicrous that the team finishing 6th can be promoted above 3 teams finishing better. And before you say it, yes I know that all teams know the system - it still doesn't have any value - other than to add to the FL's coffers.

It's undoubtedly a great feeling to win a play-off final, no question at all. As for the trophy, well, as Micky says...

...Why should a team that doesn't finish high enough get promoted anyway, let alone a trophy?

In Holland they experimented with a European places play-off. The champions got the Champions League spot and the others wrestled in the play-offs for the other European places. They scrapped it fairly quickly.
