Mega Store - Taking the ****.

3 games left and they still want over £40 for an away shirt that won't be worn next season. I asked if they're likely to be reduced and the lad sighed and said, 'I wish people would stop asking me this'. I replied 'Well what do you expect, people are asking you because you've done it in the past and there's only 2 away games left, times are hard and people want value for money.' His response, 'Well you've got no chance, so forget it'. Nice customer service. :?

Should we stumble into the play offs and have to play in Yellow, it's a great opportunity to make some hefty profit from those wanting to wear a Yellow Shirt.

If at the Coventry game we succeed in our endeavours, they can have a snap sale and clear through a lot of stock as folks will be in the soft frame of mind to be tempted.

This has nothing to do with customer service - it's about store policy. And this guy could do nothing about it except enforcing it in the politest manner towards customers demanding reduced prices...

Erm, I'm pretty sure the club already does something along those lines.

Whoooshh Mr Colinjb.

I was thinking more along bthe lines of doanting any surplus Saints merchandise to the villages that they are visiting. I'm sure 'appy will be using this mission as a scouting operation too.

I bought the away shirt this season rather than the home for the first time in years (I didnt like the herringbone effect in the red or the white shoulders). Never regretted it. Looks fantastic with jeans, bermudas, etc.

Of course it has something to do with customer service. The guy in the shop should be more polite. He didn't 'Demand' a reduced price, as you put it. He asked if a reduction in price was 'likely'. You don't sigh and say that you wish people would stop asking this question and then say, 'you've got no chance so forget it'. People in customer facing rolls need to be more subtle about things even if that's not their viewpoint. Whilst he is working in that shop he is a representative for the club. A simple, 'sorry, no' or 'sorry, we've not been given any indication' would have been far more pleasant.

Yes, Sidney has the choice not to buy but as he said, there's not many games left and the club have reduced shirts in March before now so why not ask. It's only like waiting until January to buy something in the New Year sales. Are you really telling me that you'd be happy if you paid £42 for a shirt and then it was 1/2 price a week later?

Alpine saint in bermuda shorts, now there's an image to conjure with.

Pot, kettle...

If you find my footballing opinions so, fine. You are entitled to that opinion.

My reference to dune's tedium is his incessant playing of the man and not even the slightest attempt at the ball.

One is against the site rules, the other is not.

I'll leave you to work out which is which. You seem like a reasonably bright chap.

Don't really know what you expect it's a mega store where the prices are fixed by the management and the staff aren't always

in the know about possible future reductions and promotions. He states he doesn't know and being asked is a nuisance, so you insist and start trying to haggle. It's the Mega store not the bazaar in Sidibu Said or wherever,so he tells you to f*ck off, game over.

The club are absolutely right to maximise revenue streams, but that is shocking customer service. Certainly not the "politest possible way" of saying it, as suggested above.

You're right - and a place like the megastore should have better customer service than just "no chance, forget it" or "f*ck off".

The club didn't reduce any of last season's kit (other than a brief token 25% off the away kit with a couple of games left), and didn't sell out of the away kit anyway, so I'm not sure why people are expecting any reductions.

FWIW I think it was excellent customer service from the store employee to a point, as he clearly took the opportunity to indicate to the customer that his concerns were being shared by a lot of people, to the extent that it was becoming a problem for him as an employee having to deal with it. He probably could have couched it in more flowery terms, but I suspect he delivered it in the manner in which Cortese would like it delivered, which is "Mr Revenue Stream Source, you are not important to my money-making schemes, if you don't buy it some other mug will, I change for no-one, do one."

We didn't have a snap sale last season after promotion. Even I don't regard £20 for a shirt we'll never wear again as a decent "investment". £10, yes, that's why I have 4 light blue shirts from the relegation season.

Just don't understand why people think they can haggle everywhere, if you go to Safeway's and start asking them if the bananas

and beans will be reduced next week they'll probably politely tell you that they don't know,if you insist and start telling them that

Bananas will be out of fashion by the 33rd century they'll tell you to p*ss off, it's not about the sacrosanct customer service,it's about not asking stupid questions of people who just don't know. Just can't see the OPs point.

Agreed. Customer service should only have to go so far. Once it's quite obvious that you're talking to a moron, you should be allowed to deal with them in whatever manner you choose. I take this approach at work when dealing with morons on the phone, luckily my bosses think it's hilarious and normally adopt a similar if not worse attitude than mine.

If anyone starts going on at me at work (and it's rare because I don't deal with the public) I see what they have to say and reply,if they insist I just put the phone in the drawer or go out to the coffee machine or something.Don't need to tolerate idiots in my line of work, still get a few though even though they've PhDs and what have you.

This is all getting a bit silly. People are talking about haggling and the OP didn't do that.

FWIW I totally agree about haggling. It ****es me off. All these TV shows telling people to go and and hammer to retailer for discount. When was the last time they went into Tesco (the biggest profit making retailer in the country) and asked for discount at the checkout? Instead they pick on an independent retailer and screw him on price. The fact is that he makes less money than the larger multiple stores and probably gives better service than they do but he gets far less for his efforts. And people wonder why independent businesses are going bump all the time. :-/

Exactly. If you read the OP properly, you'll find a reasonable question was asked by the customer, a sh*tty reply was given by the employee and the customer responded in kind.

If you don't buy them they will reduce them. Simple economics.

I'm afraid those days are over, Nicole has made it his mission to smarten up the great unwashed and pikies in last seasons shirts are at the top of his hit list.

The store really does let the club down. We went in on about the 6th December to buy a kids home kit for Christmas. They had no children's shirts in the run up to Christmas. If this wasn't bad enough they then sighed and said "we're expecting them in aroudn the 22nd but we don't know if we can get them to you in time".

There was no offer to take my number, keep me informed, etc. In the end we just didn't get one. Likewise the whole you can come into our shop and pay £100+ yet if you dare to spend more than 20 minutes doing so we'll fleece you for the parking is just ridiculous. Next year it could be Premier League football with Blue Sq South Megastore.
