Hedged out earlier with a bet on West Ham as I am on Saints for promotion. See it as a win/win or at worst win/lose. If Saints don't get auto promo I'll win on West Ham and possibly Saints through the playoffs, if Saints do get auto promo - heaven - and possible payout as well if West Ham go up through play offs.

If we can't get 6 points from a badly out of form Peterborough who have nothing to play for and Coventry who have only won once away all season we deserve to be in the play offs.

But if West Ham win all 3 they may well go up on goal difference IF we lose to Middlesborough.

I think it will go down to the last game of the season, but would be nice to beat Peterborough and Bristol City to beat West Ham!

If I put a million quid on Reading going up, do I really earn myself £20,000? I can't lose! Now to find a million quid...

Those odds are bookies odds specifically designed to give a bad price on something that isn't as likely as a 1/5 shot to happen. Prices at other bookies are 1/4 with as low as 1/3 or so on Betfair.

You can get 3/10 on betfair - which seems about right. The 1/5 or 1/6 is too tight.

I piled onto West Ham at 4/1 to NOT get promoted (as posted here several weeks ago) and have now laid it off at a £2,300 profit. I hope you followed my advice then ;-)

You can currently get 14/1 at Skybet on Saints to win the play-offs. That's a good bet.

It was nice to get a few quid on Saints to drop into the play-offs at 16/1. I (almost) never win when I place a bet, but should the worst happen my bar bill for drowning of sorrows will at least be covered.

Yes, that'll be the Peterborough who are the only team to beat Reading in 16 games.

Reading murdered them. It was the same as us beating Leeds and Reading beating us.

I dont know whether that makes me feel better or worse, tbh.

Put a tenner on WHU to go up....That'll ease it if we don't go up. and they might go up in the playoffs anyway!

Already done that. And put £100 on us to finish 3rd at 16/1. If we don't go up I'll be £1600 better off which will pay for a holiday for me to forget all about it.

I took those odds too. They've really shortened now. :-/

its a game ffs

The National Lottery is a game too. The chances of winning something on this are far greater than doing the lottery.

Personally I think it's a great idea to get a bookie to stump of the cash that will help to cheer me up should we have to suffer the play-off lottery. I also look on it as an investment in Saints getting promoted because my bets virtually never result in any winnings.

Also, it's not really putting money on another team is it? I'm backing Saints to finish 3rd. Hopefully I'm wrong as usual.

Hmmmmm.......... So what if in your deck of cards of fate a positive card was turned as you placed that bet?

Can I have first dibs on the promotion and ticketing rights for your Ye Olde Public Lynching down the Bargate?

;)

They've also lost at home to Millwall, pompey, Barnsley, Doncaster and Hill and are without their best defender tonight. The table doesn't lie, they are 18th for a reason. One result does not a great team make.

Yeeeeessss, but I'd rather we were playing a less schizophrenic team, not managed by a bloke named Ferguson, at this juncture of the season...

As i said above, if we can beat teams like this when we need to win games we dont deserve to go up. I'd rather be playing away to a team in 18th with nothing to play for than one fighting for promotion or against relegation. No excuses if we dont win tonight, regardless of their one off result against Reading.

We have struggled with our away form all season though. Only the 6th best in the league, that's shocking!

Your ability to predict the likely outcome remains predictably and very amusingly wrong.

Weren't you the laughable cretin who said last season that Oldham was a bogey team and Saints would lose?

We won 6-0.

Genuine question: in your several thousand posts about Southampton FC on this forum, have you ever said anything which, in retrospect, turned out to be a little bit over-optimistic?

And, if not, why do you think that might be?

Saints now 1/50

So if I lay on £50 million of my childrens inheritance, I get £1million profit when we get promoted? That's sums I like.

That's much more respectable. Suppose we've gone on a hell of a run on the road recently. Assume Reading and WHU are above us?

won 7 out of the last 8 or something like that

13/8 at Corals

can't be right, that gives them a reasonable chance now 13000/8 I could well believe.

If you can get 40/1 for snow in Trafalgar Sq a Christmas 13/8 for West Ham doing the absolute impossible is derisory.

We will finish second, if we don't it will be because Reading have lost at Birmingham and we're first and they're second, West ham are out of it.

What are the odds on Saints beating Coventry? cos West Ham for second can't be any shorter than the inverse of that.

Ah I see West Ham are 13/8 for promotion not to finish second because Corals obviously fancy their chances in the play-offs.

I think the 13/8 figure is for promotion via any means, which would of course also include the playoffs.

as I noted in an edit,Windsor saint got all muddled up or discounted the play-offs.

Ooops. Apologies - that is the price for promotion, which includes via the payoffs...
