Stranger things have happened....

Reading slip up at home to forest 0-1. Wham lose to Bristol city (which also sends Pompey down) and saints win at Peterborough.

Saints are back top of the league Tuesday night, 2 games to go and six points clear of 3rd.

Would pretty much sum this league up. Nothing is a dead cert.

I'm definitely buying some calsberg this Tuesday...........

Unlikely, but then so have many of the results been - the beauty of this division is that on their day anyone can beat anyone - the main difference is the consistency that comes with higher quality and fitness/tactical nous. Wherever we end up, I will say that we play the best style of football in this league. It might not prove to be enough to win it, but for me that style is what excites fans and entertains. But if we play to our potential eek in week out, as we have seen its meant we are there or thereabouts and still in with a very good chance of auto, and could win it as you say - stranger things have happened, - although odds are against it!

I've been thinking along those lines myself. Would I prefer to watch a season of Reading's style of football and finish champions, or watch our joyous interplay and maybe even miss out on promotion? I think I'll enjoy the ride with us and hope that we're rewarded.

Why is it the most non saints, west ham and reading fan think we are going to screw it up? Was talking to a Norwich City coach today and he things we are going to screw it up.

Most people think it is because West Ham have nothing to lose, hence the battering they handed out to Brighton yesterday. Bristol City could be much different and I think that we will win, but I am not sure about West Ham!

Because we've taken 4 points from 4 games and have 2 away games and just 1 home game left.

Whatever you may think as a Saints fan, the 4 last results would suggest us f*cking it up to the outsider, they'd just think that Peterborough beat Reading and Boro will be going hammer and tongs to reach the play-offs.

Don't forget that the bookies are leaning towards us blowing it as well, a week ago you couldn't get a bent halfpenny on Saints to be promoted at better than 20/1 on,now they're offering 4/11 on.

as long as we beat Posh we're there but I'd dread going to the Riverside needing to win.

I doubt it but it really would not surprise me. Will be interesting to see if Reading stay as cool, calm and organised now they are the ones leading the race with 3 fences to jump.

Think they will, they only realistically need 1 more win and a draw to be champions.Expect them to win all 3 myself unless they're already crowned at Birmingham when we might see 2 youth sides if that's the case.Their last 16 games have been fantastic, doubt if they'll slip now, unless they lose a CB or something.

True. But we went 13 unbeaten and people thought we were cruising, now just 4 points from possible 16 in the last 4 games. Form can change at any time.

For what it's worth I'd be surprised if they did all the hard work to lose it now, but this is football, anything can happen.

Only if it's 4 points for a win.

There is always twists, some of the games we expect to win we wont, some of the games we expect West Ham to win they wont.

Typical Saints fans, we are 3 points behind Reading yet we think they have the Championship sewn up, we are 3 points ahead of West Ham yet are convinced they will catch us.

its madness.....we win all our games we could win the league.

It's so tight, scary stuff. We're in the middle of a 6 point sandwich.

If we win our next 2 we take the title to the last day, where Reading play away at Birmingham.

I don't think you can give up on anything yet, although the results and twists in the last 24 hours have increased my nerves more than any other weekend this season.

whilst alpine and co are adamant we will blow it etc etcwe can take the title to the last day of the season....I bet that is what the players think (or hope)

The only reason anyone thinks we're going to screw it up is because that's the "story". West Ham scraping up is a story for the brain-dead London media, Reading maintaining their "surge" has been a focus of the FL Show for about 3 months, and Saints collapsing is about the only interesting angle you can hang off longtime frontrunners.

Thats the thing - they are nearly home, it is completely in their favour - they are all but promoted, they are confidence, on a great run and the finishing line is well in sight. They will not blow it now - they have great momentum, probably will not drop another point. It's all about second place now - depends who holds their nerve.

How about all three teams draw on Tuesday. That's my prediction that I have pulled out of the air.

We then draw again on Saturday. And then beat Coventry to seal promotion, probably in second.

Worth remembering that West Ham really need to win three more in a row (which would make it four in a row in total) to catch us*.

Forget the six nil against Brighton, it's gone. They've still got a hell of a lot more to do than we have. We have a margin for error and they don't. We can stumble over the line and still go up. West Ham have to be on fire for the rest of the season.

*I am asssuming that we won't just collapse and lose three in a row like some on here think.
