Pollyanna Adkins

He doesn't know, and doesn't claim too.... Jeez

He is voicing an opinion ffs.

FWIW i don't agree with him , but it's a relevent opinion and worth either talking about or ignoring, not abusing and demanding of "sources"

He said "Cortese will have looked at....."

Not really suggesting that that's his opinion, more that he's ITK somehow

Just a ridiculous statement.

I've got real concerns for and about about this guy. Our current position not withstanding, he rarely has a plan B, has bought poorly - Saints' success so far has largely been down to either players brought by Pardew or were already in situ- and is undeniably under Cortese's instructions for each and every action that he implements.

You can not help but feel sorry for a boss who if Southampton fail to get promoted will be hung out to dry by his chairman or, if succsseful, will be three Premiership defeats away from the sack at any given time should Saints go up.

When Adkins was first touted, we had highs for his independence as he reporedly refused to leave S****horpe without them being properly rewarded but since then has made a bit of an ass of himself through his Pollyanna interviews and twee phases. London to a brick implies he is setting himself up badly here.

Before the knockers start, of course I want Saints to go forth and prosper, but the team would definiely be no worse off if Pardew was still in charge.

F off you stupid Pr**k

This thread symbolises everything that is wrong with this site.

Doesnt matter if it is alpine_saint or some poor sod who looks in from time-to-time (and joined 5 years ago and PAYS his subscription), and something brews up inside him that makes him feel he wants to speak out, if the message goes against the sheep mentality and happy-clappy cliches banged out incessantly, the persons opinion is met with highly personal abuse.

I think that is a switch in his left hand. When he presses it, his hair flaps like wings and he flys.

Really? Most deluded starting post I've seen in a long while.

How many games have we won this season where we've gone a goal down, Adkins has made substitutions and we've gone on to win the game? Ridiculous. Too many wrist slitters on here who get a bit hyper when we've lost one.

You know what - even if we do mess this up and end 3rd - we've still had a brilliant season, far beyond anyones expectations.

Dear me.

He's one of the best managers in English football in the last 2 seasons, comparable with Alex Ferguson and Mancini. Our success this season is as much down to him and his positive management as it is down to Rickies goals.

I don't think he's bought poorly. Sharp is decent, proven at this level and will and has scored goals. Jack Cork is a classy player, no doubts about that. Jos is a fantatic buy. Fox is one of the best LB's in the league. Chaplow has been excellent for us.

And the list goes on...

I can't see Cortese sacking him whatever, he's bought into what we're trying to do here and is part of the long-term. No doubts about that.

There is one thing that worries me about the central defensive partnership of Jos and Jose. They are both excellent players but playing together, neither appears to have much pace.

Incredibly hypothetical ! .....IF Pardew were still here ...! YES ..he did a good job ..as far as it goes, but prev. threads have shown that he didn't have the entire staff/dressing room/ more importantly the Chairman .. with him, whereas Adkins is a better psychologist by a pitch's length!

IF, IF, IF ....IF we hadn't sold Alex O-C ..would we have won promotion already ? etc.

..think you might have waited till game 46 before writing this one....or are you waiting to say .....I TOLD YOU SO !

If you are sensitive about what people think of your opinion there is a simple answer - dont post, more likely you post for attention from others - in some weird way you like being criticised it enables you to feel aggrieved and soory for yourself....

You have to admit a lot of your posts are either provocative or extremely half emty negative aren't they?

Read the thread, the point I am making is that Adskins is suddenly in a no win situation through his success, Cortese thinks getting promoted is a cinch. Still stick by Pardew doing an equal, or better, job

A very poor point which is on no way based upon fact or even interpretations thereof. In December of last year, Cortese increased Adkins contract to 5½ years, something there was no need to do or merited by performance / league position at that time. This reward was based upon how progress had been made under Adkins in bringing together and utilising the whole package Saints had to offer to take the club forward. All the expensive back room staff culminating in the first team were actually in harmony and starting to reap rewards.

Pardew deserved the sack and it was a surprise to me he was even given a second chance. He deliberately went against Corteses direct instructions that the league was the #1 priority, even stupid enough to go into print in the match program expressing that view. Then at the start of the next season in the League cup he comes up with "The cup was not a priority but we treated it as such anyway" Just how dumb do you have to be to make that statement? But it was the failure to integrate all the expensive support staff that did for Pardew, culminating in him decimating the team in pre-season training by ignoring advice from his own expensive support staff. Support staff that realised the magnitude of the damage being done they put their jobs on the line by reporting this directly to Cortese.

It was a long time before Adkins reached the same level of playing highs as Pardew but it was achieved gradually by addressing all the problems and being far more consistent. Pardew never addressed the fundamental problem with midfield during all his time at Saints and could never get consistent performances. World beaters one game then struggling to put away a bottom 4 team, because the stamina levels required for his style of play were not suited to two games a week. Something not a major factor in the Premier league.

Polyanna Adkins may have a ring of truth, but you believe it would help matters more with a different approach? Footballers don't do cohesive thought too well especially when fuelled with testosterone, so best to keep the message low key with a positive slant. As for the plan B, there is a point there but something that we tried to address in the transfer window. Sharp does not give us a plan B but several of our other primary targets definitely would have given us a plan B. Rodriques as the prime example. We covered ourselves with Chung and Falque as back up, unluckily missing out because of Chungs injury. There are areas of weakness with our style of play but it must not be forgotten that it has equally provided us with all the success to deliver us our current position. Even though I feel Billy does not give us a different style of play, he looked the best available from what was on offer and even his small contribution so far becomes justifiable given the prize.

Even if things now go completely pear shaped, Adkins has still done a remarkable job and something he would improve upon the following season. Cortese is a driven person and would find missing out very hard to take. But he showed with the decision to keep Pardew that emotions can be put to one side for what he believes is correct for the club. I have little doubt Cortese will keep Adkins, irrespective of the last 3 games.
