Pollyanna Adkins

The Watcher

Recommended Posts

I've got real concerns for and about about this guy. Our current position not withstanding, he rarely has a plan B, has bought poorly - Saints' success so far has largely been down to either players brought by Pardew or were already in situ- and is undeniably under Cortese's instructions for each and every action that he implements.

You can not help but feel sorry for a boss who if Southampton fail to get promoted will be hung out to dry by his chairman or, if succsseful, will be three Premiership defeats away from the sack at any given time should Saints go up.

When Adkins was first touted, we had highs for his independence as he reporedly refused to leave S****horpe without them being properly rewarded but since then has made a bit of an ass of himself through his Pollyanna interviews and twee phases. London to a brick implies he is setting himself up badly here.

Before the knockers start, of course I want Saints to go forth and prosper, but the team would definiely be no worse off if Pardew was still in charge.

Dear me.

He's one of the best managers in English football in the last 2 seasons, comparable with Alex Ferguson and Mancini. Our success this season is as much down to him and his positive management as it is down to Rickies goals.

I don't think he's bought poorly. Sharp is decent, proven at this level and will and has scored goals. Jack Cork is a classy player, no doubts about that. Jos is a fantatic buy. Fox is one of the best LB's in the league. Chaplow has been excellent for us.

And the list goes on...

I can't see Cortese sacking him whatever, he's bought into what we're trying to do here and is part of the long-term. No doubts about that.

So Fox, Jos, Cork, Lee, Sharp etc haven't improved us?

If you can be so flippant about our league position (which is what it's all about after all) then it's hard to take the rest you say seriously

Good heavens above. One bad day at the office and this tripe emerges.

We actually played well all things considered last night, Reading just showed us how to finish.

Regardless of the achievements of Pardew, him and Cortese were not a good fit together, Adkins and Cortese are much better and I would trust that our chief exec has a bit more perspective then the OP has shown. It's a 5 year plan Cortese is working to, not a final three games now we are in a strong position two years early plan.

Again, read the OP, I have concerns FOR Adkins, he has may become a victim of his own success in the next six months. Cortese will have looked at Norwich and Swanse and decided anything less than mid table is not acceptable.

How do you know this? Source?

He doesn't know, and doesn't claim too.... Jeez

He is voicing an opinion ffs.

FWIW i don't agree with him , but it's a relevent opinion and worth either talking about or ignoring, not abusing and demanding of "sources"

B/llocks, you have an agenda. Just read you past posts and it's clear enough.

Get your facts right mate if you are going to have a pop at people. It is ridiculous to suggest that Simon Carter has never been to St Mary's. I've been in his company there on many occasions. Judging by several of your - normally sound - posts, you obviously have or like to think you've an inside line with the local media. Therefore, I am quite surprised you have made such a blunder on this one.

In another you're advertising an event:

Former Saints and England midfielder and radio summariser David Armstrong is hosting a Q and A Evening at the Royal British Legion, Upper Deacon Road, Thornhill Park, Soton on Thursday 19th March.

He - along with former radio sidekick Peter Hood - will also be compering a short quiz with cash prize for winning team. Cheap beer too. Kicks off around 8-15 p.m

So what's it all about then?

Source? It is like all the half baked crap on here, merly an opinion. But I would guess if Saints start badly then Cortese would be looking around, Source? His much heralded "hard man" business ethos.

Are you a journalist that he's p/ssed off?

To be fair Dune, you could have probably got that from the end of his first post in this thread.

"But the team would definiely be no worse off if Pardew was still in charge."

Pards was really good for us but only an agenda-ridden idiot would come out with that statement with as much conviction as this pr*ck.

It couldn't be.

Could it?!

One thing is certain, the awful writing style, grammar and spelling look familiar to your typical Neil Allen piece..

Is that the skate muppet that was banned from the press area?

Sorry to offend you gents but, it was just that an opinion- the same as you've got the right to express at any given time. My only admission is that I think, and hope to be proven wrong, is that NA might find the Premiership tougher to manage in than Cortese believes.

Come on. Who are you really?

No need to hide behind the faux-Saints identity.

Ok, let's take your metaphor. Pollyanna. The orphan girl who finds something to be glad or thankful for in any situation. Your implication is that Nigel's attitude of optimism could be his undoing, indeed, implying that he is twee (an implication of naievety and perhaps a lack of appreciation for his situation) when the facade he provides to the media is absolutely crafted (the guy is a pshycologist for heavens sake, he knows what he is doing) is quite bizare.

Indeed, for Pollyanna, despite her setbacks she has a happy ending. The optimism wins through. We could all learn something from that.

And being a physiotherapist I'm sure he understands and appreciates the meaning and worth of the sum of all the parts, hard work, positive outlook and eventual goals - happy ending. Funny how the original post has an underlying negativity about it. Even the thought of success is belittled. When Adkins took over we were positioned in the relegation zone. We are now on the brink of the premiership and he has concerns for Adkins!
